Try driving any new right hand drive 4wd Mercedes - they skip and bounce and make horrific grinding and clunking noises on or even just near full lock. Mercedes official response is "it's supposed to be like that, it's not an issue" - basically they couldn't bother doing the engineering properly for RHD markets so they just slapped them out, 6 digit price tag and all. Shitty, unethical company all around.

@Scotty Kilmer Sad part is Mercedes wasn't always this way. You go back to the early 1990s and earlier and most MB cars were built like tanks, and were as reliable as a Honda, what happened was the American business model was adopted by Daimler and it ruined the integrity of the company and their products too!

He would been ashamed of the company he supported for a long time and the missmanagment in products of a once luxuary level brand. It’s funny but it’s sad. I’m 44 so I’m not that old, and I remember when a Mercedes was engineered with the precision of a Swiss timepiece and built like a Sherman tank. If anything broke it was due to lack of maintenance or someone didn’t know what they were doing. An S-Class in 1985 was about $60,000, which is equivalent to the $150k this pile of ugly plastic junk cost today. Mercedes has truly lost their way and they deserve to go bankrupt. They build nothing but Chevys today, but still try to defend this junk as if they’re still the hallowed Mercedes-Benz of the 80s Don’t be fooled folks.

@@rjft7003 I know in most of the world Mercedes sold cars that were very mundane and boring, but still very reliable. Here in America we only got their high end stuff (C, S, E class only) so until the last maybe 20 years the cheapest Mercedes you could buy in America was around $45,000 USD. It was a status symbol and representation that you "made it" if you had a Mercedes. Today, that $150,000 SUV in this video looks like any $30,000 SUV Ford or Honda makes. I’ve leased a Mercedes GLC and recently a GLE, similar to this example but it was a GLE 450 SUV not this flawed, ugly coupè thing. The GLC was faultless, a lot of plastics dotted around but in terms of build-quality and reliability over the 3 years it was fine and I was satisfied. The GLE has been a nightmare from day 1, I’ve had 28 different issues, the major 1 that I’ll mention for this was that it cut the engine and went into a ‘coasting mode’ down the highway by design but then it refused to restart and the car came to a halt in the middle of the highway, I ate the dealership alive and they told me that I could return the GLE and choose another 1 or something else, I went back to a GLC, the cheaper model…and it is currently sitting in the garage trouble free months later…I’ve watched Scotty for some time and his qualms about where the car is manufactured and never took much notice but now I fully understand after I found out like in this video that the GLE is made in Alabama and the GLC I had was made in Bremen Germany…to quote a meme, coincidence? I THINK NOT! Thank you Scotty for exposing this!

Similar but opposite story from me. Leasing a GLE 450 and GLC300. GLC is the one with interior squeaks and rattles. Road noise is pretty bad with the run-flats. Taken it to the dealer 3 times they can't find or fix the problem. ( whatever, only 2 more years left on the lease). Originally had leased a GLE 350 and that 4 cylinder engine was GOD AWEFUL. Under powered and the whole car would lurche and jerk when the start/stop was activated. In-excusable when you consider the amount they ask for the car. I ended that lease early because it was unbearable. Switched to a GLE450 which honestly is a very nice car so far; Knock on wood ( quiet, good power, smooth, comfortable). No doubt it's going to have issues in the next few years.. but again that is why you never buy a Benz.

I am in the market for a new SUV, after driving Lexus GX and LX body-on-frame vehicles since 2003, and thought maybe its time to change things up, as Lexus design has gotten a bite stale and their front fascia ugly. I drive 30-35K miles annually, and none of the Lexus I purchased ever gave me a problem, except one Lexus air suspension sensor had to be replaced under warranty, in the past 18 years of driving. Put oil and gas in them, perform routine maintenance and they keep rolling. I stopped by a local Mercedes dealership to check out the GLS 450 (I really would be interested in a diesel but they no longer sell them in the USA), and after speaking with the salesman, he explained to me, that while the Lexus is a very reliable vehicle, it does not have near the technological advances and Luxury that the Mercedes has, and while so long as you change the oil and fill the gas tank, the Lexus will keep running without problem for hundreds of thousands of miles, you must accept that your Mercedes GLS will require more frequent visits to the service and repair shop, that is the cost of all the technology. I can not afford, or perhaps more accurately do not want the headaches that come with a frequently malfunctioning vehicle, so I am weary of purchasing the GLS. Plus it is not body on frame, which indicates that as it ages, it will not hold up structurally as well. I tend to keep my vehicles at least 5 years and put high mileage on them, so where to go. I stopped by the Genesis dealer to look at their new GV 80, and yes it was a nice vehicle, but a cross-over, not a body-on-frame either (really a AWD station wagon). When discussing reliability and dependability with the dealer, he in a very serious and proud moment, told me that Genesis vehicles are very reliable, a few even have lasted 100k miles, to which I informed him that is 2.5-3 years driving for me, Lexus are good for 350-500K routinely. The new BMW X-7 is filled with so much technology, it overwhelms an 60+ yo driver like me, stuff that I would never use or need, and why is every manufacturer employing different methods of shifting their vehicles, no universal devices like a column shifter or center console shifter. Who wants to have to re-learn how to shift your vehicle. Mercedes has a toggle device on the steering wheel, BMW X-7 a knob that you push forward to go reverse, and pull backward to go forward, which is counter-intuitive. I rented an X-7 for a week to check it out, and while driving on a I-87, I began to experience vibrations emminating from the steering wheel, as if mechanically something was malfunctioning, or the vehicle was terribly out of alignment, very uncomfortable to drive the vehicle. After a few minutes of this, with my spouse in the passenger's seat, I noticed on the dashboard, an alert that I was exceeding the posted speed limit by 4 MPH, and upon dropping below the Highway speed limit the vibrations ceased. Now if you drive the speed limit on i-87 you might just have a tractor-trailer run you over. My wife got the manual out, but could not figure out how to find information explaining how to turn this alert feature off, so I had to ride with these uncomfortable vibrations until I could exit and find a spot to safely pull over and try to figure this crazy thing out, and little in the BMW is intuitive. I got the feel with the BMW, that if I ever took it off-Road, not serious off-roading, just rough gravel and some pot holes, it might fall apart. It is not a body-on-frame either, just a very large cross-over vehicle. Also it did not handle the snow nearly as well as did every one of my Lexus vehicles, perhaps the tires are rated more for performance than all season, perhaps I neglected to change the driving setting, as some new vehicles can be adjusted to deliver traction in the snow, but I never had to do that in my Lexus. Maybe I should check out the Bentley (LOL). Leaning towards a Lexus again, because I do not want to sacrifice dependability and reliability for the latest and greatest technology, that I have managed to survive without for 60+ years. Safety and accident avoidance technological advances are greatly appreciated, but I do not and will not ever use autonomous driving, or parking assist, a light show in the interior of the vehicle, a sensor informing me that I am speeding, etc.. never.

As a Mercedes owner (Alabama built sadly), I can attest that the burmester speaker rattle is outrageously annoying. I spent like 6 dealer trips to fix it. And this was for the so-called premium sound system. General creaks and rattles were a pain to fix too. There’s still a rear axel squeak that happens randomly and an odd issue where the trunk opens randomly when parked. Would I get it again? Probably since they honored their CPO warranty and I got it at a bargain price compared to new, but just know what you’re getting into especially with Alabama built models. When they work right, they’re beautiful cars but Scotty’s right, they’re really not meant to be used any more than 5 years. Mines at 5 years now and I’m looking to unload it on someone else lol.

Its absurd how many codes this Mercedes has with such a low mileage. I own a Mercedes ML w164 built in 2008 in USA, have tried to reach you Scotty (with no success) to show that even though it is more than 10 years old it runs like new with not a single fault in all control units (which for sure there are many).

I bought a Mercedes SUV four years ago. And I am still very happy with it. But in the beginning I had to special order it from Germany to not have all the high tech electronics installed. And I don't let the dealer mechanics touch it. I found a Mercedes certified independent mechanic to do the routine servicing. He has been in the Mercedes business for over forty years now. No problems so far.

This is the most hilarious video yet! I worked in a MB dealership in the early '90s & even then w/the early computer & much simpler tech., the mechanics were stumped more often than not. Factory support was lacking & it was a nightmare to explain to the customer why we couldn't fix their car after they had paid 100s of thousands & their cars were broken. The service mgr. said " they just build them & ship them out & it's up to us to solve the issues". Looks like things have gotten worse.

I don’t know for sure as I think the interior quality is 💩 compared to Audi and BMW but VAG (VW, Audi and SEAT) along with BMW are trouble free for the 3 years at least. 20k Mile intervals also thus it is mostly one service and two tyres if you are unlucky. I can't speak for all Mercedes, but I've owned my 2006 Mercedes SLK350 for almost 13 years, and loving it. It drives and handles like the day I bought it. It has so many features and runs like the wind. I blow past people with ease. Yes, I have to spend $1000 every year for maintenance for different things, but that's a cheap fix for what I get. My car was made in Germany. I've owned it so long, that I have been looking for a 'better' car just for a change, but after 4 years of looking, I still can't find anything better for me. And yes, I get compliments pretty much every month with people thinking I have a new car or "nice ride". Gonna be hard to beat.

What people DO NOT UNDERSTAND is any malfunctioning device that is safety related or can be reasoned as being a danger in the future can be used to JUNK your car. With so many devices that are safety related and render the car dangerous (lane keeping assist, reversing sensors, camera's, radar etc) keeping them on the road will be next to impossible (financially and legally). Currently as much as a ABS light malfunction can be grounds to defect a car in inspection. Fixing the ABS system is not only expensive but impossible if parts are no longer available. With manufacturers having closed aftermarket manufacturers on safety grounds, they have monopoly on essential items which they are currently discontinuing even before the last car is past warranty. They want to reduce the life cycle and "push" encourage newer product purchases (profit).
