I have a 2022 Lexus ES300h. I just drove to Maryland from Buffalo NY and back and got 44.5 MPG mostly cruising between 70 - 80MPH. In hot weather I've gotten 50 MPG. Awesome vehicle - fully loaded - a 6 hour drive doesn't even fatigue this 70 yr old driver. Plenty of power on the highway to merge into traffic. Handles great, rides great, best stereo available in a car. Worth every penny.

The Avalon was always the unsung hero. I know so many people that have Avalon’s between 2002 and 2010 and many of them are well over the 200,000 mile mark, with two of them over the 300,000 mile mark. What a great car. I know it’s basically a hopped up Camry, but Toyota was smart to make the Avalon for customers that didn’t want a Lexus.

The 2nd generation of the Avalon was predicted to be Toyotas biggest mistake ever, not because there was anything wrong, but because there wasn’t. I now avoid bigger wheels/low-profile tires like the plague. Setting aside the punctures and curb rash issues, I noticed lower-trim versions of cars consistently had better ride quality. Eventually confirmed my suspicion that it was the wheels/tires, after trying same-trim with different wheels.

Another great video Scotty. A lot of people think low aspect tires handle better but it's really just the opposite. The wider the sidewall the better the handling. I have been driving my first hybrid the past two months; a company car (BMW X3 xDrive 30e M Sport/ PHEV). Combined HP is just under 300HP. Most of the mileage is from the work commute, on roads with speeds between 30mph and 45mph, max. Range on electric is around 27 miles...but I live in a mountainous place with the office in the city (Lausanne, Switzerland), so plenty of opportunity to benefit from the kinetic recharge. I also recharge the battery to its full capacity every night. The commute is almost entirely done on the battery (to/from). The gas over here is pretty damn expensive...ranging from $8.30/gallon down to $7.30/gallon these past two months. I have topped off the gas tank every week and a half...spending around $15 to bring it back to full. Considering both weekend driving (some highway mileage) and the daily commute, I have saved around 85% in gas expenses these past two months. Considering electricity expenses, net savings is around 70% or about $350 per month in total. Would I own this as a personal vehicle...no. It's a BMW! Perfect company car, with its 4 year lease and full maintenance plan. However, if I were to take a mid-sized SUV as a personal vehicle, it would be the Toyota RAV4 PHEV. Similar size and better range. Cannot beat Toyota for reliability. I cannot imagine what the maintenance costs would be with the BMW in 5 to 6 years, but I assume it would be eye watering.

I have a 2011 Avalon with 123K miles. It looks, runs, and drives likes its new. In some ways it has that feeling like a heavy German car that is planted to the road and sails down the highway. But when you need it to it makes quick turns and emergency maneuvers without losing composure. And it’s quiet inside and the backseat legroom is enormous, like a town car. I get 22-24 city and 30+ highway. For the new model the XLE is the model to get or swap out the low pro tires/wheels. I test drove a XLE and fell in love. I’ll probably get one. The Hybrid MPG is real and amazing. Guys I know get 50+ in Hybrid Camry’s.

I had a 2014 avalon hybrid for a cpl years . I averaged about 41-44mpg. I have a fairly light foot. I could get from LA to Vegas and back on a tank. Didnt really seem any better in town city driving. I think it was better on road trips. Was a fun car to drive. Lots of power. Quiet. Smooth at high speeds. EV mode quits about 13mph And engine kicks onz Stereo system kind of sucked. Blue tooth never worked right. Heads up a replacement windshield is like $1000. Also scrape the bumper constantly. Waaay more comfortable than a Prius. Smoother and quieter. I'm a big dude. Prius is tight fit. Was a fun car. Sport mode the steering tightens.

I never heard about tire blowouts ? Until now.? I paid $39,000 and now with gas in 2024 in Southern Utah is back to $4 a gallon I’m saving a lot of money. CR: today's average hybrid costs about $1700 more -two exceptions:Ford Maverick and Lexus NX SUV. In 2015 CR calculated most hybrids took 8 years to pay for themselves through fuel savings. Today, improved tech and higher gas prices mean the average payback is 4 years with $4 a gallon gas and 12,000 miles driven a year. At $3 a gallon payback period increases to 5 years. BTW, I love the fact that there was not accessory drive belt as everthing was electric. I suspect the decent horse power it had was due in part to no accessory drive loads. Seems to me that if manufacture went electronic on the PS pump, AC and so on, this could result in better echonomy. As it is with my 3.5L Avalon, I am back to a serp belt loading the engine so some degree. Still get about 30+ which is pretty close to my old 2006 2.5L Honda Accord which topped out at 32MPG.
