I mean we have no data as to how he ttok the children and how he treated them outside of the twins recolection of the events. Not saying that he is fautless, but as it stands he is trying to apologize, to express gratitude and tell them that they inspire people. They respond with having no love, irony and wanting to rip the blood out of their veins. Just from the conversation during the tea they are the bad guys here.

What I love about watching Taliesin play Percy is that it's the purest form of writing a character's story imaginable. If you watch some of the interviews, Taliesin says he'd originally planned Percy as part of a story he was writing, for a book or a screenplay or whatever, it was something creative rolling around in his mind that had simply stalled out due to the challenges of bringing any story to life. But here, in D&D, he can truly embody the character and breathe _life_ into him, in a way that handing off a screenplay to some studio could never, ever do. It's got to be some level of fulfilling many only dream of.

I love the pun, but like many, it's based on how the word sounds, not the meanings. Though it's a common misconception, Satire and Satyr may sound alike, but are unrelated. The root words for a satyr come from Latin satyrus and Greek satyros. Satire's root word was originally middle french "satire"(from about the 14th century), who took the word from Latin's "satira", which in turn comes from an earlier word "satura" Satura means, literally, a "full dish", as in to be satisfied. in the older traditions, a satiric poem was one about a person/people's vices... as in how they satisfied themselves.

That part of the mythology lend its name to a form of theater in ancient Athens ,the satirical theater, where theatrical writers criticized, in many and absurd ways, those that held power in the city. Thus the modern meaning of the word satire comes from this. PS. 1The origins of the word satire is Greek and NOT Latin 2. The Latin satire, that you mentioned, lends its roots to the word; saturate and not satire 3. Matt aknowledges this by joking that the satyr hates the theater

Matt Mercer built this entire scenario for the audience. You can really tell, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. He was VERY clever to avoid scenarios where they could be bogged down by rules (ie: fighting). In fact the only times he brings up rules during this session is when prompted by the players. He built a quest and environment that lent itself to heavy RP and provided plentiful comedic opportunities to engage the crowd. He was more comical, more forgiving in a lot of ways, and always spun the joke on rather than stopping it like he normally does (he’s the DM, it’s his job to keep the game moving, usually). He was clever, and built a scenario in game that could play out well for an audience. As much as I love the combat parts of CR, I give him credit for changing the formula to better fit a live audience environment, even if it felt cheesy and like he was taking it really easy on the group from time to time

Ok so here's the thing about the titles bit: Syldor Vessar is the Ambassador from Syngorn to the Taldorei Empire. Since the Empire no longer exists... Syldor basically has no position. Percy naming Vex Baroness of the Third House of Whitestone is basically him elevating her as high as possible as a barony is the highest non-Royal title of nobility possible. He just used his royal privilege to give her a title that's so far above what her father could ever hope to achieve. Also, this is No Mercy Percy at his finest, staking his claim and using the language of diplomacy and nobility to tell Syldor without telling him "Your daughter is my Girl and I'm abusing my authority to legitimize her so I can marry her and your ass can't do a damn thing about it"; it's a total power move on Percy's part calling dibs on Vex and putting Syldor in his place at the same time. And Taliesin knows exactly what he's doing; he knows that Percy is both calling it out that Vex is his girl and shutting Syldor down HARD at the same time. That's why Matt played Syldor as so conciliatory suddenly. He knew Percy just owned him and he's probably honestly pretty impressed that somebody would pull that on behalf of his daughter. His meekness in response is his way of saying "fair play buddy, if she's that important to you, I relinquish my claims". This is honestly Percy's best moment, because he used his stuffy rich guy attitude to out-stuffy rich guy his dream girl's dad and win her overn just by being Percy.
@eji
@eji Жыл бұрын
I think what you describe about Percy "Calling dibs" on Vex is probably one of the big reasons why this DIDN'T go down the same in the animated show. Syldor in the show isn't impressed and sees the act exactly for what it is. BUT Vex is the one to take control in the show, by standing up for Percy and shutting her father down when he refuses Percy. I think this difference is key in putting agency back in Vex's hands over her own life, rather than being a man's prize. It's rightfully Vex's moment, not Percy's. And also, interestingly, Percy approaches her afterwards in an apologetic manner, hoping that his title wasn't inappropriate, realizing that he sprung it on her without her consent. Overall, it's a different approach that showed that they definitely re-evaluated it after 6 years and thought that it needed a little fine tuning.

@@OneWolfPupKeylith absolutely assisted in bungling the interaction with the Clasp. Really that whole conversation should have been had in Greyskull and why everyone who objected to dealing with the Clasp waited until they were in the middle of making a deal is beyond me. Since they were there they should have made a deal or told the Clasp they needed to think about it. Keylith was the one taking parting shot style remarks that were insanely out of touch which I think is why a lot of people put the mess on her. How full of yourself do you have to be to reject slightly unsavory help in saving civilization and then turn around and talk about how you hope they come to see reason and come together with your crew for the good of everyone whennyou just refused to do exactly that? And in Whitestone Keyleth, immediately after convincing everyone not to rest, was the one who went and focused on the tree instead of helping the people fighting a zombie giant. Matt brought up multiple times that they could see the people struggling and Keyleth kept wanting to know more about ropes until the people were all killed. At least for me it is the completely tone-deaf hypocrisy or lack of ability to maintain a focus to keep the character consistent that annoys me.
