Gotta remember for ANY of these fire alarm videos no matter who is doing it that sometimes the camera microphone can make things sound louder than they actually are.

I received one of these alarms in the mail the other day, and I have two words to describe them: EXTREMELY LOUD. Mine is a Faraday-branded unit.

I live in Beaver Dam, WI but the continous fire alarms are only in the schools and a nursing home my mother works at, a few apt. buildings, and a sheltered workshop. The hospital here has a code 3 alarm system, but no voice evac and the alarms actually sound like the chimes on your car to fasten your seatbelts.

Well all the schools in my town has continuous fire alarm sytems. As far as I know they have a Simplex fire alarm system. Back when I was in High School, which was from 1988-91 (Grad. in 91) They were the first school in the district to have a computerized system (when they did a lot constructing including an auditorium) they didn't put in new horns till 97-98 when they added more classrooms. They originally had both IBM and SImplex horns, and they were continuous and VERY loud.

My elementary school had the exact alarms in the hallway, but they were all on Code 3.

well, I know of a school in my state that had a system change in 2005, and it was slow whoop. Also, somebody else on youtube mentioned that in their town, all systems were set on continuous. I've also been told that often times, local authorities have jurisdiction on what evacuation codings r signaled at. I also met a higher up from my cities fire department, and he told me that most of the time, high rise buildings use slow whoop, but in our city, it's code 3

Our school has the MXL-IQ with Wheelock MT-24LSM-VFR Horn Strobes set to slow whoop.

Why do they pull it when they do a drill? If that Panel has a dire Drill button they should use that instead. The drill mode tends to bypass the dialer which means you don't have to notify the FD and the monitoring company that the alarms will be going off.

My school has a simplex fire alarm system. We have speaker strobes and simplex t bar pull stations. The speakers use a woman's voice, and it is set to code 3. It is a cool fire alarm system.

Its sort of a shame he doesn't do fire drill videos anymore.

Well when my school did the 89-90 new additions. the horns in the new wings did have the blinking strobe lights. in 1998, was the year they put all horns with the strobe lights. I am not that familar with the voice evacuation system, but that sounds like a good idea to have.

my high school has a system of siemens zh-mc-r horn strobe and dual action siemens - pyrotronics pull stations located throughout the building- very nice system

Jeez bro. That's CRAZY!!! nice panel. Same panel is saw but it was a Siemens RCC-1. The whole school had UMM-T horns and strobes and their was no sync at all. The outside had Wheelock A.S Horn strobe on High volume code 3 temporal. VERY LOUD SYSTEM.

Yeah, it could also depend on which version of the npa 72 the fire department is using as well. Cause I have an account w the nfpa, no, I'm not a member, but they still sell copies of the nfpa dating all the way back to the fifties

Yeah High Rise buildings are supposed to have a voice evacuation system. Slow Whoop is common with Simplex the other one is a code-3 Tone sounds like the system change in '05 was to a voice evacuation system Maybe for voice evacuation systems that is not mandatory but all the new systems that I see using horn strobes or bells and strobes all go in code-3. The dorm I stayed in my last semester at IUP had TrueAlerts in code-3 in the hallway but the room smokes were on continuous.

Those have to putting out at least 104 db ouch!

My Highj school had fire drulls once a month, and some alarms were extremely loud.

I prefer continuous to other tones actually.

@firenut101 FWR is Full-Wave Rectified current. It's a technical term for poorly-filtered DC, and it makes certain horns (like these U-HN's) have a scratchy sound. So a better question would be- Do all of them sound scratchy like this or are there some that sound smooth?

That system must have alarm verification turned on I noticed that when he pulls it there is a delay of about 5-7 seconds before the horns sound but the panel buzzer goes off right away. Also this must be an older model of that Cerbrus Pyrotronics panel I saw another video on here with what appears to be the same panel but set to code-3 but the tiny LCD at the top had a bright blue backlight and this one doesn't at all either it did and is burned out or never had one.

The alarm sounded like some constipated duck or goose.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, wow ok. When I was in jr high which was 01-03, we had work done to our building as well. We had as horn strobes put in set to code 3 as well as e70 speaker strobes which were set to slow whoop. Any idea why voice evac is a little different from horn strobes?

well in my city in my state of manchester, nh, all schools have to he a voice evac system. Like 99.9% of horn strobes r set to code 3. All high rise buildings 7 stories and taller have to be code 3 and set to voice evac. What city and town r u from? I wanna pull up the fire codes to c what u're town has to say about them

Why do the P2R take longer to silence is it because of the panel.

I wonder how loud these are compared to your average Siemens U-MHU/U-MMT? * I can handle Wheelock 7002Ts with no issue, as they don't have high-frequency shrills...so I thought these older Faraday/Siemens horns would fall in the same category as 7002T...

Anything installed after 1996 is supposed to be on code-3 maybe this is an old panel or contractors did not check programming.

Why doesn't that panel have an inner panel or a "Dress"Panel as some people prefer to call it to cover up the wires and circuitry?

What state is the high school in? Different States have different fire drill laws for schools. My state, which is Massachusetts requires the Fire department (Local Fire marshal or designee) to conduct the fire drills once every quarter. Obviously this state requires fire drills to be conducted once a month, but can be done by school staff.
