For the rest of the Munster family, it was make up, but for Fred Gwane it was more than just makeup. He also had to wear a suit that was incredibly heavy and insulated. The suit had these weird weights in the arms and legs to give Herman Munster that awkward weight movement and I heard once that he had to have this stagehand pass him a cold glass of lemonade between every take.

@@AmandaYee-yn9dk yeah that was very much true. I don’t know if they still do this today but back in the day Hollywood tour buses would drive around on the back lots of various studios. And I remember seeing this one video where Fred Gwane and Al Lewis walked out of the side and greeted the guests on the tour bus and they were in their makeup but not their costumes and Fred Gwane pretty much look like a Herman Munster pez dispenser.

Yeah, I agree, but there's one thing I could never figure out, if Lily is a vampire and Herman was made from various humans, how did they have a werewolf child, their daughter I can understand, she takes after her father's human doners, but Eddie? Unless one important fathering part of Herman was from a werewolf and his other fathering part was from a human, then that might explain it, that's the only thing that actually makes sense and explains it.

This was the easiest day Fred Gwynn ever had playing on The Munsters. The Herman suit he had to wear all day was very hot and cumbersome. After he complained, they put air hoses into it, but they didn't help. So they shot little jets of cold water through it and they just made the heat and humidity worse, particularly during outdoor filming. He quit over the unbearable conditions, and Al Lewis, a longtime labor activist, quit in solidarity with him, ending any hopes of keeping the show going.
