I narrowed down my choice to Aeron and Embody and then went to the store and sat in both of them. I was leaning towards Embody, but the moment I sat in Aeron, it felt like sitting on a cloud. I totally agree that reclining on Aeron is amazing and the chair feels more premium in terms of materials. I almost went ahead and bought a used Aeron online, while still at the HM store. Then, when the sales rep left for a moment, I spent a bit more time in both chairs. I realized that while Embody doesn't have that "wow" factor... it just subtly feels better over time. The sales rep confirmed that Embody is rated for the longest sitting time in their line up at 11 hours (I didn't ask about Aeron specifically, but other HM chairs are rated at 8 hours). Great review, I think you just confirmed my suspicions from a brief interaction with both chairs!

That's exactly my experience as well. NGL the embody was my dream chair for quite a few years now (since I heard of the premium chair market). This summer I tried them both. Aeron first was a huge wow factor, sitting on a cloud as you said. Then the embody after that didn't felt as "dreamy" at first. But after ~40-45 minutes switching from one to another (and yes, it's not enough for a thorough test but you can only do as much in a store), I was sold on the Embody. I'll have my chair delivered in ~2 months

I had a chance to sit and compare both chairs few days ago. They are both fairly comfortable and good support for my back which is great for a chronic back injury patient like myself. But one thing I found aeron maybe a better choice for me is, embody has a narrower and rounder backrest when aeron is much wider. I have round back posture issue and I can keep my shoulders open in aeron. I don't see people talk much about the different curveness and backrest wideness but I guess it's worth to mention.

man you had me sweating for a while watching this since I have an Embody on the way, interesting to see that the Embody's armrest's are less adjustable than the Aeron I thought it was the other way around. But I do think I have similar things with the back and the Embody will be a better solution for my upper back where most of my problem is. I hated the armrests on the embody, they are way too far forward, cant level with the desk and sit close to it for tasking. Terrible armrest adjustments, can't change the depth and not nearly as sort as the aeron. Didn't like the curvature of the backrest as well, but that's personal preference and body type.

I gave up the idea of finding the perfect anything quite a long time ago. The Embody X Logitech G certainly comes close enough, so it’s now my favorite chair, after owning it for about a month. I contacted Herman Miller directly to ask about a headrest. I was informed HM doesn’t design headrests for any of their chairs because ergonomics would be compromised. Using one’s neck and upper body muscles is apparently more conducive to a healthy posture. I appreciate your review!
@bathawes
@bathawes 3 жыл бұрын
I can see how using a headrest all the time would indeed compromise ergonomics. However, I also think folks should be given the choice to use one when fully reclined - IMO, that position doesn’t really lend itself to tasking anyway - it’s more of a “sit back and think” scenario. Re. Logitech Embody - the more recommendations I see for this, the more I think about adding foam to my standard Embody :-).

I just bought an Aeron and I noticed something very important I want to share. The size, A,B,C matters quite a bit it seems. I'm 6'1'' 175lbs, and I NEEDED a size C. In some reviews, I see people with their shoulders ABOVE the top of the backrest. The top of my shoulders are BELOW the top of the backrest with my C. This leads me to believe they are in a size B when then should be in a C. I think this is also what leads people to say the seat rim bothers the back of their legs. Another note is I have slim legs and I noticed there is not much space between my thighs and the rim of the seat. If I had bigger thighs, I can see this may be an issue, however for my size it cradles me perfectly. I can even cross my legs or put one foot up on the lip with no discomfort. The posture fit was something that needed to be dialed in (like everything on the Aeron) and it now feels great after I dialed in the tilt tension as well. Tilt tension I think may be the most important thing to getting the cloud like feel on the Aeron. It is based off your weight, which leads me to believe a larger person using a size B will have a less than optimal experience. In converse, my much smaller girlfriend cannot comfortably engage the lean on the size C. One last thing, on the Aeron the forward tilt feature is dope if you are a gamer that likes to lean forward on your keyboard and mouse. The Aeron follows me upright and forward and then all the way back when I die and stretch. The tilt tension adjust is truly the key to this chairs comfort. I have it dialed in to feel like a cloud and I am truly impressed. TLDR: The size of the Aeron seems to matter quite a bit, and I think more people need a size C than realize. I also think wider people may find something like the Embody more comfy due to the width of the size C Aeron being narrow. Hope this helps you fellow chair hunters!
@ArcanineICU
@ArcanineICU 2 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. I tried the Aeron B as the HM guide and rep suggested and then compared with the Embody. The Embody was beyond better, but then I realised it was because the B did not support my shoulders at all, whilst the Embody did. I have broad shoulders from working out and the sizing guide doesn't account for this, only height and weight. I switched to the Aeron C and it was now on par with the Embody.
@comfytechquest
@comfytechquest Жыл бұрын
I agree that Aeron sizing is very important, but that doesn't mean that there is a size for everyone. In my case (185cm/6 feet 1 inch tall, 80KG weight), I tried both the Aeron size B and C (which I should have mentioned in the video). I ended up concluding the following: Aeron Remastered Size B: frame sticks into the top of my back when I stretch, limiting my movement. Aeron Remastered Size C: the mesh is too loose for me, meaning I get insufficient back support.

I totally get your point. I finally took an appointment with the only Herman Miller dealer in my area and went 2 days ago. Got an hour to talk and try both the Aeron and the Embody. Both felt amazing, really, and like you said the "wow factor" is certainly a bit higher on the Aeron. But the embody has this feeling of effortlessness when you sit on it, you sit as you want, not as the seat wants you to seat. The front frame of the Aeron seat also bothered me a tiny bit in the ~30 minutes I was on it (tried them both for 10-12 minutes then switched a lot to evaluate), that made me a little afraid it would only feel worse in the long term. An finally being tall (6’6’’ or 198cm) the backrest of the Embody just felt better to me. I ordered one yesterday and will be delivered end october. Can’t wait for my new chair.

Sat in an Embody, Aeron, Leap v2, and Gesture yesterday in the showroom. Now I know sizing and personal fit can be subjective but I am 5'10 150 pounds for reference so kinda right there in the middle of height and weight. The Embody has quite a long and wide seat pad, if that matters to you. People on the heavier or taller side will definitely appreciate this feature. The Leap and Gesture competes with it in this area but don't quite match it. The Aeron you would need to test yourself in your Size A,B,C setup but the B was just about perfect for me. It was extremely comfortable in your standard upright office tasking position, possibly the best out of all the chairs. It was very supportive and loungey almost which was surprising for a taught mesh chair and plastic bucket seat. However the edge of that bucket seat you can feel on the underside of your legs and this is where the other chairs come out as superior for at home coziness if you're going to be using the chair for things other than office tasks like watching movies. Ultimately I went with the Leap V2 because he had an excellent condition used black one fully loaded for $450. The Aeron (new) with Atlas headrest was over $1600.... I could not justify that premium. Also I am coming from a mesh Hykken and knew I did not want mesh again. There is something cozy and plush about fabric and feels much better on the skin too. You can sit in almost any position in the Leap/Embody/Gesture and you will be comfortable while the Aeron is very much a racecar tasking position although it is supreme in THAT one sitting position. I would go with the Embody over the Aeron for at home use. It is "cozier" as already stated by default due to the fabric and wide seat which allows many alternate sitting positions. The Aeron is the supreme office tasking chair when you need to get down to business.

I have had an embody for a good year now and am trying the aeron as the embody is really aggravating my lower back and I feel it’s adding to my si joint pain. It’s also giving me bum pain after a while as the seat isn’t very plump and that’s with some extra foam I put in. This is the Logitech gaming edition. I have ordered a size c aeron remaster and am 182cm and 80kg hoping it will be ok

Interesting. I'd be keen to know how you get on with the Aeron size C. I'm very similar height/weight to yourself (185cm/80kg) and I didn't particularly rate the upper back support on the C. On the Aeron B, I found that the upper frame dug into my back if I leant back but in hindsight, I think perhaps the B was a better fit for me overall.

I believe that, deep down, most people choose the Embody chair because of its attractive design. If we removed that differential appeal, no one would choose it because it is less adjustable, makes noise, has more plastic, and generally, everyone perceives it as of lower quality. However, the mind needs to justify something illogical because, in reality, the purpose of an office chair should be quality and comfort before an attractive design. In the end, humans end up making more emotional than logical decisions.

I’m not so sure. I moved away from the Aeron as I didn’t like the back support - I found that with the Aeron B, the frame dug into my shoulders if leaning back. With the Aeron C, I found the mesh too saggy for my liking. As noted in this video, I preferred other aspects of the Aeron, such as the arm rests (which I love).

You don’t need a headrest for this chair. I have the gaming version and I’ve been sitting in the chair for 1 month for 10-12hrs/day 7 days a week and I don’t feel like I need a headrest. The way the chair is designed, your shoulder blades are always pressed up against the back of the chair when you get adjusted to the chair (with proper posture). With your shoulder-blades pressed up against the back of the chair your head sits perfectly in the middle and you don’t need the headrest. I would not get a headrest for the Embody because if HM doesn’t sell it then I don’t need it. I’m also not going to drill anything in my chair and void the warranty. You will be extremely happy with your Logitech Embody gaming chair. I have no complaints about the chair and I can sit in the chair all day for hours on end without having the need to stand up and relax my back. I don’t know if this is a placebo or if it is really doing what I think it’s doing. I don’t think that you can mentally dismiss pain on your body if it’s present. That’s why I think this chair is superior to all other chairs and come on, this chair looks like something out of a futuristic movie. I bet this is the next chair that will be in the MOMA along with the Aeron eventually. The Embody has only been out since 2009 and the Aeron has been out since 1994 so there’s a major gap. In due time, I think the Embody will catch up to the Aeron and to be honest, I think the Embody is far better looking than the Aeron. Thanks.
@bathawes
@bathawes 3 жыл бұрын
@@iHustleLXXXI I would say that opinion on whether a headrest is needed for the Embody is divided and subjective. Personally, I do like to recline back from time to time, and I do find myself missing a headrest. I would be surprised if an Atlas headrest would require causing any damage (e.g. drilling) to the chair given that their Aeron headrest can be fitted with zero damage to the chair.

This video was pretty high quality for a brand new channel. I was in the same boat, I also saw these two chairs as being my endgame for a long time and finally got myself a used Aeron a couple of years back and hated it. This was because the seat didn't let me sit on my foot and I also didn't like the arms because they curved too much when relaxing and that made it hard to game for long periods when not sitting totally upright. I was then considering the Embody but with the used office furniture market not really having any Embodys and with the lack of headrest support I decided to go for the Steelcase Gesture with headrest.

Hey there. I find myself switching between the most upright locked position, and a non-locked natural recline position. This works well for me. My only slight gripe with this is that the armrests are too long, as I like to have them level with the desk (putting them below the desk is a non-option for me as it results in tired shoulders). My ideal setup would be to have an Embody with armrests that go forward and back (like the Aerson Remastered armrests), allowing me to sit right up against the desk.

I went with the Aeron Remastered for 2 reasons. 1, it's newly designed and much better for posture correctness and 2. I like the style better bonus 3. I prefer mesh, even though I get cold easy, because it lessens the pressure on my body. I would love to sit in an embody but based on these 3 simple things, I chose the Aeron. Needs new arms as well as possibly a better system for the seat pan adjustment and flex. Overall making the chair less clunky and less noisy. They did very well with the Aeron's remastered update, the Embody need's that same treatment.

I was really sad sending my Aeron back. The seat sides would start to dig into the sides of my ass after a few hours, which sucked. Everything else, I loved. Whenever I was sitting in it I felt like a god, its REALLY good. I got the Embody now and I dont have the problem I had with the Aeron, however, everything else sucks. My ass now hurts at the center (laterally) and furthest place back, right at the 90 degree zone, so I guess this one is also going back. This was really surprising since it has all this fancy seat pan tech to supposedly make it feel really good, except it doesnt actually seem to work, its very stiff. But on top of that, you dont have that "feel like a god" feeling on it either, it doesnt hold you like the Aeron and although you can rock back and forth, it feels like it was not meant to do that. Have you found that there was an adjustment that you didnt do before and that fixed any pains you have?

I have a bad back and the Embody literally HAS THE BEST BACK SUPPORT, once you learn how to adjust it and get used to it. The point about the armrest is something Herman Miller failed at explaining clearly. The way you are adjusting it is incorrect which is why it is cumbersome. The correct way to adjust it is to pull it up and then adjust it. It makes no noise that way. Its disappointing that Herman Miller didn't make this clear to everyone because I hear this on most reviews.

Can you point me to a video showing what you mean?
