Use a simple counter. When a minecart is sent out, add an item to a box, when a minecart gets to the end, put the item back. If the box has 0 items, disable chunk loaders. no timers needed. (doubt he'll see this but i like the idea)

Sometimes I don't know how Tango's brain works xD Maybe it's just chat distracting him again... But the mob AI trigger is a brilliant idea, from there the solution is obvious. No idea why he is making stuff so complicated. Upward facing observers with string for the floor of the mob room, RS below running into a repeater into a 5s pulse extender. (every mob movement refreshes the pulse extender, so with 5 endermites there is barely a chance for it to fail) That pulse extender runs into the on/off switch AND a hopper clock that you wire up in such a way that if it gets a new pulse while ticking down it fills up again and runs down if it unpowers again. This way the only case of not optimal function is a rare early shutdown, which will only increase the post-shutdown-timer by a few seconds.

whoever told you rail saw, I think meant track saw. it is not that different from your standard circular saw, but it has a dedicated guide to keep it cutting a straight line. you can accomplish the same but getting a piece of aluminum angle or even a straight board. I recently bought a track kit for $100 despite having a nice table saw because sometimes it is just easier to quickly clamp on a straight edge and run my circular saw along the track than it is to set up and make the cut on my table saw

1:31:00 If I recall correctly, a group of portal blocks select one portal block to be the Point Of Interest for that group of portal blocks. This Point Of Interest gets added to a list of portals that portals search through when looking for a connection, rather than looking through millions of individual blocks in the world. It's far easier to search a list of 50 POIs than it is to search through 6 million blocks. That's likely related to the issue where a single portal in the Nether wasn't working, and you needed separate ones. You needed separate POIs. (Yes, a similar POI system is what villages use for beds, job blocks, the bell, etc.)

Mentioned this under a different VOD but another option would be detecting lazy chunks to determine when you're away. You could detect when chunks become lazy by sending a signal/object to a chunk and expecting it to return, so then when it doesn't, you know it's a lazy or unloaded chunk. Do that for some of the surrounding chunks and you know to start the timer to shut down the factory and chunk loaders.

What you really needed was for your chunk loader is a copper golem to randomly press a button while there's a player in range of it.... My personal method would be a keep-alive system like they use in actual factories. In important factories if they don't press a button every so often, the system turns off. I would hide redstone ore in places in the factory and when anyone walks over it or is standing on it it extends the a timer for the Supply line. If the Keep Alive doesn't trigger, then the supply end stops. But the chunk loaders are keyed to the minecarts. For each minecart passing 2-3 objects are added to a dropper. (until the count down dropper is full) with the count down dropper pulling one item every minute.

Upgrade idea: round robin request queuing system. After a module crafts something, lock its hopper for a minute, to allow later modules the chance to get a shared item.

On the vanishing items in the chunkloaders: that happens due to random sideways momentum of droppers. Theres a slim chance the momentum is big enough so the item flies far enough over to hit the edge of the dropper in the opposite dimension, and falling down, sitting in the portalframe where it cant get picked up and despawns. With the 7second clock, you shouldnt run into problems, as the chance that it happens twice in a row is verry low. Just keep an eye on having items in the dropper, so you dont run out over time

Have a comparator pulse extender that gets reset every time a minecart is dispensed. Then, on the falling edge, you start the 1 minute timer. Bulb latch to determine if the loaders are on or not :)

If you afk there, with the chunkloaders on, you will load additional chunks, namely those in the nether. If you really want to save server resources, you should have the factory and the chunk loader on, while you yourself are not on the server. That way you will load way less chunks in the overworld, as the chunkloaders cover way less than your render- and simulation- distance.

Instead of trying to get a redstone signal out of the hopper minecart loader (where it is difficult) could you just put a detector rail and an observer at the far end of the factory (where the carts cross from one side to the other) and take that signal down to the hopper clock ? Have the chunk loaders start when you start the factory, then the observer at the other end keeps the chunk loaders going until it observes no more carts passing by? Both system would travel through a pulse extender that lasts for 1 (2?) min. Then when you turn off the factory, the pulse is still operating until the observer doesn't observe any more carts and the chunk loaders turn off 1 or 2 min after that. That should give enough time for all minecarts to stop. I'm not a redstoner so I'm just throwing up ideas to (hopefully) simplify ....... maybe what I just described is harder.......

Items can despawn, Minecarts don't. If the item somhow stays in the portal (looses it's momentum), it will stay and despawn there.

Why would you not have a counter that increases every time a minecart enters the factory and decreases when it leaves the factory? While the count is non-zero, keep it chunkloaded and when it isn't then turn off the chunkloader? Seems less complicated than resetting timers?

Don't worry Tango, we hate the diving in football too, it's pathetic. My theory why football isn't that big in the US is because they can't monetise it like American sports. It's played 2 45min Halfs? Halves? instead of quarters so they lose out on 2 ad breaks and the relegation system isn't profitable. When Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool FC John Henry petitioned to get the Relegation/Promotion system removed, he was laughed at obviously. I heard a lot of Americans saying that it's a better system because it will force teams to try harder if they can get relegated and lose millions in revenue. Sorry this went on a bit didn't it!!
