Another great video Shaun. I have used housings for extended timelapses with all my Gopros - all the way back to the Hero 1. I cut holes in Waterproof electrical housings for the lens and use Gorilla Glue to hold the housing in place and then mount the complete unit on scaffolding poles or such like. I can then power the GoPros for extended external projects and have been known to have a gopro on site for 11 months continuously taking photos every 30 seconds during working hours!

@@AirPhotography Nowadays I utilise Cam-Do Blink and Blink X to control the gopro timelapses - so much easier. Canadian as well.

The seals on the GoPro itself are also a risk if you take just the camera into the water with quick changing temperatures. I just broke my GoPro 7 due to water ingress from taking it into 68 degree water from a 96 degree air temp. It lasted a solid 20 minutes before it failed. I have the 9 now and will definitely have this housing for future cold water things.

I agree but not only that i had my 10 for maybe 2 months and even though i thoroughly cleaned it in fresh water after each use surfing. I noticed tiny amounts of salt can get stuck around the finger pins and corrosion quickly followed. I tried to replace the fingers and noticed 2 of the screws also could not be undone. I'm not sure if they were corroded as well but fortunately GoPro warranty was amazing and they replaced it within 1 day of recieving it. I have now bought a waterproof case for the replacement GoPro and will never use a GoPro in salt water again without one. I strongly recommend nobody else does either unless you want issues with corrosion.

I used Hero 8 with protective housing for diving and put it on top of my diving mask. Its kinda heavy than hero 7 and since hero 9 is bigger, i guess its gonna be heavier. Really wish that gopro would do something about it.

I've been trying to decide between between getting the 7 or the 8 and now the 9 between the gopro hero blacks for a few months now and I didnt know anything about cameras before this at all. Best thing about this protective housing is it will work with the polarpro nd filters. I've waited years for this combo. Full protection and great motion blur together. Now just give me Bluetooth audio so I can connect my cardo unit without needing additional cables or adapters and at long last GoPro will have finally cracked it! Nearly there...

I was thinking of getting the case to protect the cam more from weather, mud, & scratches rather than use underwater. With the Hero 10, would using the case cause the cam to overheat? The 10 seems to need good ventilation to avoid overheating.

Hello Shaun, Thank you so much, i did get the protective housing, courtesy of customer service from go pro. Can you recommend, whom i can get a protective housing from, when i plan to add on the pass through door? I would love that feature, but the housing from go pro won't fit that as it comes out a bit. My question is, what third party would you recommend i go too? Thank you for all your videos, I used your settings regarding battery saving techniques. You are really helpful.

Thanks for the video. I was interested in the audio you recorded at 5:34 to demonstrate the difference with and without the full protective case. I recently bought a GoPro10 and my first recordings were ruined because the sound with the full protective case on caused so much sound interference that I couldn't use the video. With the case there was no interference. I contacted GoPro support and they replaced the camera, only the same issue occurred with the replacement. Is this normal when recording with the case?

For the record, i'm a scuba diver and i have this housing and also my friend has it. After 40 meters the buttons keeps jams and it is not easy to press and after 40 meters it is 100% useless.

@@markr041 However, GoPro is very misleading on their website about this promo. It clearly says $349.98 includes one year of subscription, however, when they charge your card, you get charged the $349.98US and a second charge of $49.99US for the subscription. I was on the phone with them for over an hour trying to get them to understand how they are misleading and it's false advertising. All the kept saying is if I want the $49.99 refunded, they will have to charge me more for the camera. They finally came around to recognizing how the website was misleading but they still wouldn't refund the extra charge. I've since had two other people at GP agree I should not have been charged the extra, but have yet to hear from anyone willing to refund the extra $49.99 I was wrongfully charged.

I have since purchased the new Hero9 accessories at a 30% discount. It is not false advertising, and many people, and I mean 1,000's, have got this deal, just as it says.

One of the complaints has been that the GoPro's have a tendency sometimes to over-heat and shut down. For me, this happens more often when I use a plastic case as there is no air circulation. Not sure how to get around this as I really like the case for all-around protection.

Try the Ulanzi metal case - it will act as a heat sink taking away heat from the go pro itself.

I use my GoPro when I go fishing and many times I'm either in the water up to my chest fishing or I'm walking through really high water to get to a specific spot. I use the fully enclosed door however the audio is absolutely terrible. Should/can I switch to the skeleton door for better audio. The water in fishing in is saltwater not fresh water. Thanks

My guess is that there was two factors. 1. The first gopros in their naked state weren't water sealed at all. So to do anything near water, like regular cameras you had to protect it in the case. Newer GoPros are water sealed in their naked form so most people won't need the extra protection. 2. Cost and pricing. If you never need the housing, people will complain that they have payed for parts they don't want and will never use. Now. I myself am looking into getting a GoPro 9. My last one was the hero 4. While I probably will rarely do deep water stuff, I will probably add the case just for the peace of mind it brings along. Just dropping it on hard surfaces and abrasive particles or sheer blunt force trauma. If there is one thing one expects from a GoPro it is that survivability. So in my mind it is a necessary add-on.

Yes some of the knock off’s are pretty good just definitely test them in water before you rely on it for being waterproof. I have had some generic ones leak in the past. But if you’re just looking for some thing for extra protection than they work well. Also consider that go pros are fairly durable it may be an accessory that you don’t even need at all

All the filters that I have seen replace the whole lens. So it shouldn't have a problem once you take off the square lens cover on the camera and replace it with the new one. Should fit the same but don't quote me! I guess I'll find out soon 😬

I do believe so, but I am certain you have to contact GoPro directly as it is a special order. They don’t list it for sale on their website.

Water will indeed get in front of the lens, however as long as there’s no air bubbles it shouldn’t affect the quality too terribly much.

No you do not need a case. It is waterproof without a case. He’s only adds an extra line of defense and durability in some situations but it is not necessary
