The parents work together to protect the babies. She moved the rescued one away from the scary humans so at least one was safe. The Dad's right there to protect the other two. (Did the guy catch the 3rd on? Looks like he's walked away).

It’s almost like the mother knew what I was doing too because she just sat and watched and as soon as she got them all back, they swam away. I did that too in 89. Both parents went for me. Thier youngster was snared in fishing line, in the middle of a lake. My dad, cast a pike lure, and broke the line. The cygnet came to the bank as it was exhausted after its ordeal. Couple of Carp anglers said, he has been snagged out there for 3 days. Our thoughts of them, must remain unprinted. Anyway, i shimmied the bank and grabbed it. 2 angry parents hot pursuit. We cut the line from its legs, and then the fun started. Yes, 2 homicidal parents want my guts. I shimmied back and launched thier cygnet back to them, then they buggered off. Ungrateful gits ❤❤

Well, if I’m not mistaken, that is the river and weir in Otley, West Yorkshire, UK, where I lived until 5 years ago when we moved 6 miles away! That is a very slippery river edge and that area that he walked on is usually thick mud so it must have been last summer (2022) He did exceptionally well as the weir is usually huge and he wouldn’t have got down there. The swans are quite forgiving and used to lots of people but he did a great job with the rescue. The babies are often quite silly and go into daft places but usually get out OK. Thank you for helping.

It’s actually better to leave them because that’s how they practice to start using their wings, like that third one did. He managed to jump in the water by flapping his little wings. I’ve seen cygnets jump over higher curbs than that. Anyways he meant well! Thank goodness the swan didn’t really go for him, they can get pretty precarious at times!

they would’ve done it on their own eventually, or with the help of the parents. Generally best to leave wildlife alone unless it’s obvious they’re in danger and can’t help themselves. He almost chased one of them over to rapidly moving waters

You realise that 10 minutes later the cygnets will probably be back there? I was constantly saving ducklings that were going down culverts where I lived once. A lot didn't survive. Thats why they have so many babies, in the hope 1 or 2 will survive. Sad but true.

It’s normal for swan to let their young ones get themselves out of trouble. It’s how they learn to be independent. I’ve watched mom swans wait on their young ones over 15 minutes until they make it out of the water on their own. I know he meant good, but he made it more stressful for the swan family.

SO WHAT if the guy in the video ‘interfered’ with the Swan parents teaching their babies? The swans will have plenty more opportunities to teach their babies. As one person said, and many KZfaq videos show, animals often help each other out. So the parent swans had help from a humanoid this one time. The swan family is reunited and the world did not fall apart.

It's not exactly about the help he gave, it's just that he got involved at all. Some animals will abandon their young if enough has "rubbed off" onto them from the human. These are birds, not mammals, they come from dinosaurs and couldn't care less if you helped their baby. They're not in the next pond over saying "what a nice guy".

Quit projecting complex thought onto an animal. The swan saw a large creature approaching its babies and sought to defend them, by instinct, but acting warey to avoid injury. It ain't gonna trust something just because we can see the bloke going to help them, most animals aren't that deep.

You should just leave them be unless their trapped or their life is in danger. Mom and dad weren't worried. They were coaxing them to figure out how to get to mom and dad. It's an important lesson to learn in case something happens causing them to be left behind. It also makes them stronger. They need to figure it out on their own.

The signets (baby swans) didn't need his help lol their parents can walk on ground, pick the babies up onto their backs and put them in the water. They were probably leaving them there to teach them how to climb and get into the water themselves. They have to learn to survive! You just distressed everyone without the need, sorry. Both the parents and their babies all seemed very upset, and understandably so. Please leave them alone next time. Your heart is in the right place, but you were doing the wrong thing.
