1 Engine DUAL Purposes

Күн бұрынDenver Fire Department Station 1 is likely the most diversified in the department. Station 1’s personnel are highly trained professionals of multiple disciplines. The crews can handle everything from standard fire fighting to complex specialty rescues. Today firefighter Bo Walker takes you through Engine 1 and “BIG BLUE.” Both units are set up to handle water-related problems. Big Blue is the dedicated dive rescue truck. The unit has multiple boats, all the PPE needed for a dive, plus highly technical communication equipment to find and save lives. The crew will handle everything from swift water to deep water without hesitation. But wait there is more, in today’s episode the subscribers get two-for-one Rigs. Bo takes you through Big Blue and walks us around Engine 1. Engine 1 is also a dual-purpose apparatus. We know you’re thinking “most engines nowadays are dual-purpose”, with vehicle rescue equipment and their firefighting capabilities. Engine 1 is special, Engine 1 is set up as not only firefighting but also dive rescue. Making it a quick response unit for the station on all water rescue calls. One of the coolest things about Station 1 is the skills of these providers. Having the knowledge of technical rescues plus firefighting is what many stations long for.

Super sweet rigs, being a diver, I love the addition of that option of dive gear on Engine 1. I also like the use of 3" supply line! Big Blue has been nicely repurposed as a dive rig. Nice job Denver on specing and outfitting your rigs! Awesome video, HND!!

As someone who has spent time as a volunteer firefighter, with family in Colorado I appreciate the Denver Segment. One question I have is the following...Have you ever done a segment on your own department/station? That would be really cool.

Our very first video from Minquas was my station. I have since move to a different one and we are working on doing that. But the giveaway video has my new chief 😉

Since I live just outside of Denver, I’ve really been enjoying the Denver Metro area series! I have to say, the videography of the chief’s car was over-the-top amazing! 😂😂😂

2:00 Technically, there's 7 districts in the department. It's not "in the city" but District 8 is out at DIA. Fun fact: Red (ARFF) Chief's buggy is nicknamed "Shrek 3" because it's the third one to be painted lime green.

For sonar please check AWP adventures with purpose, they are they experts in underwater recovery. A set of individuals that are growing the last year. They have a couple of small rafts with a set of good hummingbird sonar etc..

Would be smart to have stairs though then couldn’t be a rear walk in and would have to be a side walk in taking space away. Could put a ladder straight up in back like RVs have. Could have done a ladder up a side or even the front (looks like there is one).

Houston runs a tractor trailer and Dallas has a tiller rescue (not sure if it is in service yet)

Any chance you got any video or pictures of how Engine 1 had their dive gear stored? Curious how they set up an engine company as a quick response dive vehicle.

I thought we did but after travel back and passing the files to our editor we had one corrupt file. I think that was the footage and had the chief vehicle too. Sorry. I’ll see if we can get some pic from the crews

Should you ever be outside of NA I would love to see you do a station and engine tour in europe. I find it incredible how diffrent the services are.
