Damn. In so many way she's just a very sweet, artistic and intelligent young human being. I wish she'll be able to quit dope and make her dreams come true. Not the way i did. I'm 59 and it took me 40 years to learn, how to cope with the events that took place in my childhood and how to use those experiences as a tool to help other people.. and myself through that. January 2022 i'll be sober for 30 years.

@@miyahrochelle3560 Learning to face the trauma, how to cope with it and how to convert it into strength is the hardest, but most important thing. Like most victims of childhood molestation i was on a self destruktive streak for many years. After loosing a wife to cancer i nearly ended it all, but i chose therapy instead. That gave me the tools to use my own pain to help others. I found happiness through that. I hope that your brother finds the will and the strength to face the past and to start the work to learn how to cope with it.

She oddly reminds me of my dad. Very intelligent, mischievous in highschool. Struggled with heroin and other hard drugs, alcohol. Something about the interaction at the beginning was so nice. It's cool that Mark still clearly lights up when he talks about photography; that it hasn't burnt him out, having had such an intense career. Also lovely to see reciprocal interest from one of his subjects. Such a positive and human exchange.

The way she instantly started folding her napkin into some shape to ease her mind instead of wiping her tears is the essence of an artist.

Origami: That’s what it reminded me of as soon as I saw the angles, the shapes she was creating. Should get her some origami paper, eh? FWIW, it seems to me creative people have a challenge finding their “spot” in this world. We try to coerce them into a particular “artistic speciality,” like “painter” (and further sub-spots like modern, classical, by medium etc.) or “singer” and sub-spots like Blues, Jazz etc. Ex: Joni Mitchell views herself as a painter, not a singer yet most people know her as a singer. Or like Mark who loves photography. I noticed immediately when he took his pictures of his interviewees, they always pan over that person slowly, carefully, as if to say, “Look at their wholeness in the midst of all their brokenness.” And it makes them beautiful. Combine that with their interview and it’s just this beautifully human “human being.” The creative people I’ve come across throughout my life just aren’t, I guess the word is “reductionist.” They “see” things as a whole, not it’s individual parts; it’s where they find the beauty, the inspiration, the juice or whatever. I’m failing horribly to express what I mean....does anyone get what I’m saying because I’m just not creative or artistic at all.

Same here! I related to her a lot. My dad did a ton of pills and dope when I was a kid and was a super artsy chef who wrote poetry and painted and whatnot. He was always so cool in my mind... I Hell ya I smoked, drank TAB and danced around in my legwarmers to Footloose soundtrack. It cracks me up that I smoked the skinny Capris Cigs! WTF? LOL Then I was introduced to good old coke. Yes, us Valley girls cruised around and called it all kinds of cutsie names like booger sugar, California snow, toot sweet, and I am sure others. It was all romanticized at every angle by the beautiful people. The only people who said anything bad about it was Nancy Reagan on tv saying "Just Say No" That was not glamorous and when Nicholas Cage or Rob Lowe ever noticed me and my friends, we were going to look cool! 🤩🙄

Not true, it takes your entire mental to snap, you have to break. Source: 6 years abusing or prescription opiates heavily daily, mixing in any other downers I found. Once I met fenty, things changed fast. A year and a half on the stuff and I checked myself into detox for a week, then started seeing a doctor. Sixteen months clean, and I did this ALONE. Meaning, I didn't have anybody to help me, take me places while I was in withdrawal and feeling like killing myself because I just wanted the misery to stop. No one to push me to do the right thing but me and my drive, my desire to achieve what I had been lost on for near a decade. I didn't delete any numbers, I admitted to myself I was helpless, I did this to myself, and that I was DONE being sorry for myself and making excuses, most of all, sick and tired of being sick, broke and tired. You CAN do it if you want to. Don't take that from me, or the rest of us who decided to take a walk down into hell and we actually made it back.

Danielle, you are so beautiful on the inside and the out. I’m celebrating 16 years of sobriety this year, and I remember very well what it was like to be in the grips of addiction. I understand how hard it is. Releasing a hug into the air and sending it to go find you. 🎈

Mark Laita - why not try and get a interview with Loni Willison - a former Swim Wear Model - who was married to former Baywatch Star Jeremy Jackson - who now for the last few years has been Homeless around Los Angles - it be very interesting to hear a story like that - going from the red carpet and celebrity events - to - being spotted scavenging food from bins around the Los Angeles area, and has been pictured sleeping under a shopping trolley full of her possessions.

That is so sad.

@@stephaniehelms950 I think her marriage to Jeremy Jackson was troubled and abusive. She got addicted to Crystal Meth. Cut her hair short. Lost some teeth. She is a shadow of what she was. I seen pictures of her wandering around Skid Row pushing her trolley with her possession s.

Dope changes ones brain chemestry. It's VERY tricky. If simply wanting to stop worked, we'd all have done it. Having experienced dope sickness, getting clean, then picking up again, should be all the evidence a person needs that willpower alone is not enough- but of course it's not. Typically, us addicts over estimate ourselves while underestimating the power of the drug. Truth is, we don't need to understand how that is possible. What we need to realize is that we, on our own, do not possess enough power. Can power sufficient to keep from picking up again be accessed? Yes it can. For the few that might claim they walked away by just saying "no", good for you! You dodged the bullet. Rare, but I've seen that too. Go enjoy your life and count your blessings. The rest of us will either use till we die, get clean and live a recovery life, or have a pattern of using, staying clean for periods, using, getting clean, etc. I'm the last type. That sucks on its own, having lost so much, time after time, but it sure beats being dead- or worse, the walking dead! Godspeed.

Mark has, obviously, had some of the best interviews of the human experience countless times. But with the specific circumstances that I'm in tonight, this one in particular hit me hard. This women is an angel, I swear. She has such a beautiful soul. And it sounds to me like it runs in her mothers family, honestly. I would love to meet them. She only needs a little push. Shes done it before. But she has so many passions and ambitions. And the way she interviewed him in the beginning; the way he was answering was so cute. He kind of went into a different mode than he normally does. He started to reminisce and get excited to tell some of his story for once, and it was because she wanted to hear. Interviewee interviewing the interviewer. Organic human experience. It's amazing. God protect them❤
