You "improvised" a damaged maid into a beautiful & wise old crone of the forest . . . Beautiful improvisation! This tree, now, looks more like it did at the Chelsea Flower Show . . . it's an award winning tree still. Even better if we can imagine how lovely it becomes when the gin work is completed. Am thinking it is more valuable now than ever before. We love your talk; is not boring; is necessary to speak the improv. Thank you,! This is a wonderful show.

Lucelle Bernadette Pillay Hi Lucelle, I am a South African of Indian descent also but I left South Africa in 1964, moved to Zambia and then moved to Canada in 1970 where I have been since residing. It’s odd that even though I don’t speak an Indian language on a daily basis, I still retain the cadence of an Indian and so does Peter. You have a wonderful speaking voice Peter and you have the eloquence and articulate ness of the older generation. You do not speak in initials like idk etc. and it is so refreshing! I wonder what the English language will sound like in another fifty years! I’m glad you will be showing your winning Chelsea trees. I trolled the internet extensively trying to find them but to no avail. I was trying to book tickets to next years Chelsea Flower Show but had to give up in frustration as I guess the organization can’t predict the coved climate. Perhaps you know more and can point me in the right direction. I am determined to come to Herons as well. That cryptomeria turned out beautifully. I think you mentioned in a previous video that cryptomeria do not bud back easily. Am I right in my conclusion? Well, even if it doesn’t, this remains a stunning tree.

Peter, I know this video is two years old so you may never read this, but it takes most people many years to reach the point where you are, the point where they feel comfortable cutting away at trees without thinking (and it probably took you some time to reach that level as well), especially when they are not their trees! This sort of relationship usually takes time to establish a level of comfort between the boss and the consultant. It feels like you have some of that trust now with Josh and some of your other students. You can trust them to pot, wire, prune, water, etc. So you don't have to do absolutely every little task yourself, right? 😉

Thank you for your time Peter. Yours is just as important if not more. Yet you humbly spend it passing knowledge, which you may view as redundant or insignificant. Oh and I'm a fast trimmer/pruner. Sometimes a bit too fast I suppose. 😊

Hi Mr. Chan - thank you for your videos; your instruction, expressions, and invaluable wisdom in every regard of bonsai. I have been deeply interested in the art for most of my 31 years of life, but have only just begun these past two weeks pouring into my thirst for bonsai knowledge. I have spent many hours with your videos and others' on while washing dishes, tidying my house, or working from home. In my humble opinion, your vocalised thoughts and feelings during your videos are of immeasurable worth. We can all read about bonsai history and technique, but the way you are teaching enthusiasts of all experience levels through your speech during these demonstrations is, I think, the perfect way to learn. Many other videos on KZfaq have a great deal of production put into them, and though the presenters are often very experienced, there is a quality about them lacking. The art is such a connected experience, and though I never doubt how passionate those individuals are about bonsai, it feels like a much more wholesome lesson to hear your unscripted thoughts about your process, experience, and techniques. This is what you can't read about. So thank you - I would love to, someday for myself, be able to come anywhere near the passion you have for bonsai. This all being said, the other day I found a couple of bonsai books for sale, which completely appealed to me and my love of books and learning, so I bought them. In a wonderfully serendipitous way, one of them was your "Create Your Own Bonsai With Everyday Garden Plants" from 1989 (the year I was born) in perfect condition. This book is brilliant, and so perfectly encapsulates your fantastic approach to the art. I am a huge fan of how you describe approaching bonsai from a no-nonsense perspective, spending less money and connecting with the art through ways that many purists may feel are blasphemous. The examples of the neglected then transformed garden shop plants I think is the perfect guide to what the art could and should be about. So again, thank you, from a brand new but life-long fan.

Thank you for your very eloquent assessment of my approach to bonsai.
