I cannot say enough good things about Herring shoes! I own a pair of their coniston boots in burgundy, also made by Cheaney and after 6 years they still look brand new. Of course, I look after them though. To anyone in the states thinking about shopping with Herring, I highly recommend it. I ordered on a Monday and by Wednesday afternoon they were on my desk here in San Francisco. Complimentary shoe horn and polish in box as well. When I left a review on their website, I received a personal email from Mr. Herring. This is a business that cares.

Beautiful, it's the Cheaney Pennine boot with Herring branding.

This style is not an Oxford. An Oxford has a closed lacing system. A derby cap toe is the technical name for this style. Derby refers to the two lugs of leather on either side that pulls in when you tighten the laces. It’s semantic but I feel important to know. Usually an Oxford style boot is known as a “Balmoral” and much more formal. The derby cap toe is possibly the perfect combination as you have the detail on the toe and it can be dressed up/ down as required. I got compliments for a pair of Spectator style (two tone) loafers I was wearing recently , “love your brogues”. Always find it amusing , take the compliment and move on ;)

Loving the new sorts of shots you're adding to your videos lately! Really nice seeing more on-foot footage. Wish I could like twice for the sleepy cat.

Great review. Veldtshoen construction differs in several ways from stitchdown. The primary one is that it has a welt

Cheaney and Tricker's are my favorite. You can usually find them on sale this time of year or second hand on Ebay. Light years beyond Red Wing, Docs, Danner, etc...

These are easily the best boots you have reviewed and they look really good with those blue trousers (chinos?). I just can’t see why anybody would go back to Dr Martens once they have experienced this level of quality and above.

one reason being these boots can cost around £400 :s
@RevJamesCostello

@@hrb6241 If you know where to look, you can find this level of quality (and higher) for half the price. But if you imagine all the cheap pairs of shoes and boots you wasted your money on, if you invested in quality, you would have half a dozen or more great pairs that would last decades. Plus, they are more ethical.

I have no doubt these boots are far better than Docs - but they're £400. Basic docs are £80, and easy enough to find on sale for £50.

Rev. James C your right! You’ve got to be looking at least to the Cheaney Crockett & Jones level for value to quality. I gave up on plastic shoes and have never looked back!

Good video! I own a pair of these and they are the best footwear I have ever owned. The leather is of very high quality and has allowed the boots to "mold" to my somewhat strange (wide) foot shape. They lead a hard life being used exclusively for walking along country and coastal paths. I would not want to go hill walking in them, but I am in no doubt that they would take me up Snowdon or suchlike in the summer months. Although they could not be described as totally water proof, they will keep the feet dry unless they are totally submerged. They easily keep me dry in muddy winter fields with water up to the 3rd hole. I wear them for up to 4 hours a time every other day and have had no issues with foot pain, blisters, corns etc...I would say I have walked the equivalent of approx 40 x 8 hour days in these since the spring of 2019 and the lugs directly under the arch of my foot have nearly worn flat; however there will still be plenty of rubber left once they are gone. I anticipate having them re-conditioned autumn next year.

Ideally you should rotate foot wear and give them a day on/ day off. Put in shoe trees and let them dry out a bit, should avoid any funky smells developing. That said I’m sure they’re stout enough to handle abuse but every cobbler I’ve talked to advises this strategy.

If I remember rightly, oxford has become a generic term for most styles of shoe which use a closed lacing as with your black semi-brogues there, whereas a derby would use an open lacing, where the two sides of the upper close over the vamp and tongue, as with these boots.

Fantastic boot! I have I think a slightly older design of this Burgundy boot but again from Cheaney! It seems that Cheaney is such an underrated brand I think they are more or less Crockett and Jones standard of make with some very wearable and modern thinking designs without the sacrifice of quality as people complain about Prada’s Church’s.

What makes this an even more interesting comment is that after Prada bought Church, the Church brothers bought Cheaney's :)

I own these and have for a few years. I have worn them in the country side quite often. They are a good shoe, but very hard to get on. The lace ups to the top is quite difficult and time consuming.

@christianweimer6124

@@countryman3460 well, Northcote is very similar to Coniston. The leather is smooth compared to grain leather on coniston, and the shape of the toe is different, Northcote is narrower. i am currently thinking about three contestants: CJ Islay, Trickers Stow and this Windermere boot. at the moment, leaning towards Trickers most. It is very hard to find them in the south of Germany, especially the Windermere, its almost impossible

Laces are not long enough to take off put on boots with ease. Lock lacing might solve the issue. A seven hole boot might be better. Also, as you can see, the boots are not great for anyone with a high instep. Notice how the laces are further apart, when the boot is on, as you go up the boot.

I have a similar sole on my Alden boots, probably my favorite sole. Not specifically from ItsHide, but the design looks exactly the same. Tread might be just a tad shallower, but the boots are several years old; maybe they were the same depth when new. I have a pair of Cheaney's on my wish list, it's the "Hurricane R Military Style" in calf leather. Those boots have the perfect look of both ruggedness and elegance. Not entirely sure how to size in Cheaney though. I imagine an 8 UK since I'm a 9 US in just about every boot/dress shoe I've worn (9.5 in sneakers/brannock). Not currently available anyway, so I'll try to do some more research beforehand. Nice looking boots! All of mine are Goodyear Welts, but I'm looking to get a stitchdown at some point (White's Bounty Hunter boots).

I find the best way to get the right size is to go by the "cm" that is listed next to the size of the shoe. Whilst shoe sizes can vary dramatically this way of judgement is fairly accurate with a size 7 in Adidas being 25.5cm and size 6 in nike being 25.5cm.
@Cemmos
@Cemmos 4 жыл бұрын
@@lerianchan Yeah, for sure. The UK and US sizes normally align with the cm (also how Japan sizes) across most brands, but the issue is more about how the last of the boot itself fits. I'm almost always 27 cm (9 US) in boots, but some like my military boots fit true to size, which is 27.5 cm (9.5 US). From what I've seen, Cheaney fits more so true to size, 27.5 cm, but I don't think I've ever had a Goodyear welted boot at that size before. Pretty much always 27 cm. Sadly they don't give advice based on other brands that fit you well, nor do they use popular sizing software that can help you calculate your size.
