While limiting yourself to a monochrome color palette might seem counterintuitive if the goal is to have MORE options, but interestingly, it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities and versatility for your wardrobe. (And just to mention it one more time, monochromatic outfits ALWAYS make a bold statement--with less!) In this video, I'm taking on the monochrome outfit challenge with an absolute men's style and menswear wardrobe essential--a classic navy suit. I think I got into this “gentlemen style” culture since I was 5 years old. I used to see my Italian grandfather wearing a suit and tie and nice shoes, well trimmed mustache, and always trying to imitate him. My mom always show me photos as a kid using my grandpa ties. I think this is not just trying to look nice but is a culture and shows respect to others when you dress well. I follow awesome style connoisseurs like Fabio Attanasio, Luca Rubinacci, Andreas Weinas, Hugo Jacomet, Lino Ieluzzi,Kirby, and all those guys but man the one I got the most inspiration and authenticity is you. I think I’m ready to start with my blog soon and I’ll share it with you so you can give me your feedback. Many thanks for inspiring me.

You pull this off well. I am not so sure that a man my age can pull it off, but I do have a blue and white striped shirt with contrasting white collar and cuffs that I get a lot of compliments on. Especially when I use silk knots for cuff links that bring some interest if paired correctly with the tie. When I wear the silk knots, my pocket square is always white linen, which I think looks best with navy blue. It is just a personal preference. No, I am not looking for a "pop of color," a term that makes me crazy, rather just some visual interest with the silk knots. Thanks for this video. It makes me think of other things I can do with the navy blue suit besides the serious business look

#4 is the reason I like autumn and winter clothing. I can not wait for roll neck weather! My personal favourite is burgundy roll neck with ox blood leather jacket. Granted a very diffident aesthetic from this premise but along a similar monochromatic look.

I'm colour blind to hues. That is I only see primary colours Red, Blue, Black etc. Any change to that & I has no idea. So I've been using a monochromatic approach to clothes for a very long time. Great as always, Brian! Surprisingly, my favorite look here is #4 - I guess I'm just too used to seeing/wearing the classic suit & tie look, and adding the turtleneck was an interesting tweak! It would be great to see a video on "aggressive" pattern mixing sometime. You know, a series of put together looks with three (or more?) patterns that match perfectly together, for example. Thanks again for your hard work and inspiration!

I feel your production value has risen up in the last couple of videos, I really like it! As for the looks - the turtleneck one does seem very intriguing and sophisticated. Very great vids to see. Just bought a navy suit (dark blue). Perfect with white shirt. I’m giving it a try with the dark turtle neck. However, I also want to combine with a dark shirt with tie. A dark blue shirt/tie or better black shirt/tie. Love to hear your opinion.

Hi Brian. Solid video. I like your general style, and I hope you keep it up. I'd like to ask you a question, something that's not necessarily related to this video, but something that I notice you and other men's fashion vlogs will mention from time to time. Why are some men's fashion vloggers/influencers/etc so into the 'functional cuff buttons'? Why is that such a distinct mark of 'quality'? According to what I've read, they're more historically meant to function for surgeons, before they moved from wearing suits literally everywhere to adapting more practical scrubs and more stringent hygienic practices in the operating room. By this logic, the people who most deserve to wear functional cuff buttons would be medical professionals, no? I will counter my own statement with the fact that watch lovers such as myself will wear a diver's watch without being a proper diver. In that train of thought however, I would tell people I love my diver's watch because I love what it can do, not that I use its robustness in the way that it was intended. I see a lot of guys reviewing suits saying something different about functional cuffs. They don't say "I love these cuffs for the history they represent", but rather they say "I love these cuffs because they are a mark of quality". Do you really think they're a mark of quality, or that they're a mark of men's fashion's history of functionality?

On the Prince of Wales Check tie, is the color of the pattern silver and black? The reason I ask is because I had a dilemma when choosing my suit combo for today. I was going to pair a similar tie with a navy suit and brown shoes, but didn’t because I wasn’t sure if the colors would mesh well.

It's possible, but it depends on the fabric of the suit. Check out many of my other outfit videos and you will find lots of examples of how to break a suit into separates.

Just wondering but do you think navy dress shoes/sneakers be too much of a statement for these looks? For me, yes, navy shoes would be a bridge too far. Appreciate the comment on the intro. Doing our own stuff has always been what has separated us from the herd, IMO. Sometimes it's hard to conceptualize, but that one just came to us.
