Its called head bobbing. Owls have a part of their brains most animals lack, they can move their heads to judge distance better. Humans use the eye separation of binocular vision to judge distances, owls extend that by bobbing their heads making the top and bottom of the movement similar to the separation of our eyes. In short, he was curious. You see it often in younger owls trying to build a model of the world. Also in hunting prey or before the owl takes off to a new perch. I love it, its very cute.

Do you think that maybe Garu, the owl, is being careful? The first posts were around 4 years ago and seems like Garu was a wee baby and grew up with the owner so much that his hold on his arm or feet is gentle? It's something my dog did, she would pretend bite. And even when she was super angry enough to lash out during accidents or when I was treating her painful infections, her jaw would slack the moment she caught us.. maybe they have a far better control
@catpoke95574 жыл бұрын
@@NovemberVenine I do believe the owl is being careful. Obviously. I have cats, I have experience with this too, y'know. But most falconers wear an arm guard anyways, because even when the bird is being careful (IF their bird is kind enough to do so,) it can still be painful and even dangerous if the bird slips up. Yes, they can be careful, but it's important to remember that their claws are so big and sharp that it can be painful anyways. But I do agree, this owl looks very careful!

Cause some people see animals as biologically inferior to humans especially in terms of intelligence. This makes those idiots think that animals can be mistreated.
@Itsunclegabby5 жыл бұрын
@@wiseguy240Winston wiseguy 26 I'm aware. I'd ask these people (and I often do) if it's ok to be cruel to someone with a developmental or cognitive disability, or someone with a closed head injury because they may not be as intelligent (what people perceive as intelligence). Another example: Pigs are smarter than dogs. Is it ok now to slaughter dogs mercilessly like we do pigs? Pigs are as smart as toddlers, so we should probably use some critical thinking when "ranking" living, feeling creatures based on intelligence or species and determining whether they deserve respect not. And there's different types of intelligence! We are inferior to other animals in countless ways...

My sister rehabilitates injured wildlife (I'm a botanist and mostly work on food plants and habitat structural plants for them while they're at our house) and in my experience they're pretty smart and relaxed. We're not supposed to really socialize them as they are wild animals and will be returned to the wild, but I do feel like they know us and remember. Several of the owls she's nursed back to health return to our yard frequently. It wouldn't surprise me if, with proper socialization, these birds could become very attached to people like cats do.
