How the heck does your watch know what day it is? It's hard enough to remember sometimes, but your watch doesn't have that problem. And it's definitely not powered by a series of ropes and pullies operated by ants. Definitely not.

Another fantastic video. Props to whoever is creating the animations. They go a long way to support the explanation.

Please do a Minute repeater mechanism! This channel is severely underrated. The way you explain such complicated mechanism in such simple manner along with the top notch animation is amazing.

“The more you know…” 🤓 Great point about the torque demand involved in a date change and how that affects various movement types’ abilities to advance the date instantaneously.

I really enjoyed last week's video about chronographs. I was actually wondering about that when you posted it. I'm interested in an Omega Speedmaster 1152. It's a chronograph with a date. So both videos are helpful.

Now I know why my ants keep trying to escape from their little home each time I approach with my watch on… thanks Luca! Again… Luka. Great episode also about watches by the way :)

Hello again Luka! The key is to make a tiny lil picnic inside your watch and leave it out for a day, that's actually how watchmakers get new ants during a service. Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed learning about ants (watches too i suppose) :P

Hey Luca. I know you’re already working on the perpetual calendar episode. Can you please also explain how it differs from an annual calendar mechanism? Thanks

Can you explain the reason for this phenomenon happened with my Rolex Datejust (a new piece, in use only for few weeks): one day all of a sudden I noticed the date jumped at 22:00, I tried to reset the watch and saw the date changed exactly at 22:00. After few minutes I tried again and suddenly it got fixed and since then the date changes exactly at midnight, like it should. Can you explain it? Thank you!

My Seiko 5 has a day and date function. It works by direct drive so it isn’t just quartz watches that change the date in that way.

So what you're saying is that the ants are all committing statutory.... uh reproduction. No. oh jeez! Actually relevant question/observation, I have a Damasko with an ETA 2824-hopefully 2 and a Oris with a sw200-1 but I noticed if I'm up drinking all night and I look at the Oris - the date wheel shows it transitioning between the dates. So it will show halfway between 9 and 10 for example however the Damasko with the ETA, I have never noticed that happen on. When I'm reading my bible and going to bed at a reasonable hour, when I wake up the Oris is never stuck between the dates so it does work, just not instantaneously. But they're the same movement, shouldn't they work the same or is it my drinking?
