Thanks for this beautiful tutorial. It was very clear and now I am no longer terrified at the idea of working on a movement with a date complication

Glad it helped! Thanks for watching. (p.s., a little terror is still useful, lol)

An excellent demonstration on how the the date-complication works. Also really nice to see you told some best practices around the usage in general plus the different movements. Can't wait for the next complications to be covered. Good stuff!

Definitely the right format. Keep doing what your doing. Not olny tutorials but actual education. And very relatable, in English instead watchese.

glad you enjoyed. I do use some of the formal terms here and there, but also try to use regular-speak throughout.

I know you do, but nothing a watch enthusiast doesn't know. Generally speaking, by the time a watch guy clicks on this video they probably already know a little bit about the name and terminology.

@@WatchComplications I'm actually an amateur watch enthusiast / repairman and so seeing this kind of video helps me to understand what is going on inside the watches I am begging to learn. I would love to see a video talking about the ratios and different interactions between the gears in a standard mechanical watch. I look forward to seeing more of your content.

I could maybe do a video on the standard 4-wheel gear train. I do talk about it some in my Christopher Ward SH21 video (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p6dmdZOEl7-1pac.html). It's more focused on the gear layout and power, but I do discuss the gear train interaction some with some visuals. Some watch books also have some detail, like in The Wristwatch Handbook, p. 42 Teeth and Pitch Ratios.

I cant believe you have olny 5 thousand subscribers, i dont mean that in a bad way. You should, and i think will be over hundred thousand before you know. I would've thought "watch geeks" would be dying for this kind of content, i mean, if you disregard the inside and all you care about is how it looks then quartz really would have killed off mechanical watches. Keep it up.

have only been at it a short time in the great scheme of things. just letting it naturally grow. I put content out and if people subscribe then great.

Similar to a snail gear for dead seconds complications right?

Really odd question but I’ve got a project I’m working on. Is there a way to make the date wheel tick every second or minute instead of once per day?

there are some designs that go a route similar to what you are suggesting, like the Leville Regulator review I did some time back, it is a big minute disk. Sometimes a seconds disk is used, be it mechanical or quartz, as you will see in an upcoming review on a particular jumping hour watch.

Another date fonction which would be interesting would be big date(two disks) without the dial (as in this demo)! Thanks in advance! 👍

When were the date-complication watches first produced?

late 1800s generally as pocket watches got more sophisticated, though it really gained ground in early 1900s.
