On Monday 29th July 1968 while recording Hey Jude someone dropped the F-bomb! Various people claim credit for it but it appears to have been dropped on the backing vocals track.
According to Beatles engineer, Geoff Emerick John was the one who insisted they keep the expletive in the song but that they bury it in the background. Lennon got a kick out of the idea that nobody else would hear it, but “we’ll know it’s there.”
During the recording of the master take, Lennon shouted “Oh!” followed by McCartney saying “F%cking hell!” at 2:56 and 2:58, respectively, into the song.
This occurs after Lennon sings the background vocal under McCartney’s “remember to let her under your skin”.
Beware!!! Once you hear it you will never not notice it again… Listen close at around 2:57 after the “Oh!!!”

*It is "fucking hell" !... He's saying "foocking hell !..." in a sort of cockney/working class kind of way, half jokingly... That's what I'm hearing personally. I knew it but thanx a lot !*

I think it is actually "that's enough'' as it pans out into the longest fade out in recorded history at that time. I believe it is George Harrison who says these words, in the control booth ..any one else have thoughts on this.

According to the session engineer Barry Sheffield you're actually hearing the words "wrong" and "chord" - It's Paul shouting "I played the wrong CHORD!" on the piano track followed by John's "Oh fookin 'ell" on the acoustic guitar track. Great stuff. (apologies for cutting and pasting my reply to the below comment).

I always thought it was "work it out" or "working out" like maybe "not working out." Because there's frustration in the voice and it probably was at the end of a flubbed take that they punched in too early on and used the good bit of. I still don't hear "f-king hell" even isolated!

there is without a dout a liverpudlian sayin "Fooking Ell" on there.. 100% all these sound like "working out" or " "thats enough" must be listening to something different or not from the UK and cant really hear it

To me it always sounded like "let it out" as in "Let it out and let it in".

You're all hearing what you're being told to hear. There's no way to tell what, if anything, is being said here. Even the owner of the voice probably couldn't tell you now (if whoever it is is still alive).
