Let their mother discipline them. Mom can be their role model too. As a father you can teach them what to look for in a husband.

Dex Kato man get outta here with that. There good men/black men all over the world taking good care of their kids. But this is how it works.....there are planes flying around all day every day but you don’t get a report on how well planes are flying today but if one crashes, you’ll hear about it. There are good fathers everywhere but you don’t hear about normal everyday life...when a father is a deadbeat, you hear about it. WHITE FATHERS CAN BE DEADBEATS! HISPANIC FATHERS CAN BE DEADBEATS! BLACK FATHERS CAN BE DEADBEATS! With the cases that you HAVE heard....you begin to generalize but it’s not true. Don’t ever say that bullish!t again!

Photostar, I didn't say that all black men are deadbeat fathers. I can only speak my truth and from what I observe and my family and Community. I where we see black men in public with their kids. I do see lots of single black women with multiple children, trying to discipline and raise them to the best of their ability.

Where do you live or looking! Such statement is derogatory to say the least It is thesame when someone mentioned to a friend who is black, a medical doctor, with husband who is a high school teacher, being married for 14yrs with 7kids by thesame man, people never believed her even with hard evidence. Stop this propaganda, just like the media

My dad disciplined me. Spankings included. Growing up all my friends would sneak and do things. Heck I could've did what they were doing. But I knew my dad had a direct line to God and that whatever I did behind my dad's back, God would just snitch on me..lol. But any and every time my dad disciplined me, he talked to me. Told and showed me he loved and cared for me. When I was starting to like boys, I never went to my mom. I went to my dad. Like we would sit in my room and just have an open talk about boys. I could and still go to my dad about anything. He's my bestfriend. I'm so thankful for his discipline, because it showed he cared and just wanted me to do the right thing to avoid unnecessary consequences in the future. I've been with my husband since I was 18 and my dad told me that he would be my husband. Now I'm 31 with my daughter and as hard as it is, I encourage my husband to discipline my daughter. Even though she tries to get over on him (she knows she can't play me lol) she knows daddy is to be respected and discipline is the only way a child will learn that. I know women who were not disciplined by their dad and the common factor is most, if not all of them are very manipulative. Noy only is a dads presence important in the home, but his correction is definitely needed to steer his children in the right way. Thanks Dad love you always ❤❤❤❤

My father loved us to death but never had a problem disciplining me and my sister. We did have less spankings than my brother but that's just because we had calmer nature and were more obedient than he was. My mom was even more strict than Dad tho because she knew more feminine stuff than Dad and we just could not fool her like sometimes we fooled Dad. If for example we told Dad we had period pain and didn't feel like going to school, he was ready to make us stay. Mom knew our cycle and knew we didn't have any period pain ever lol. So she was like, if it's mild take a pill, if it's severe than we're going to the Dr because you never had pain before. It's either pill and school or hospital, what do you pick? Well lol we went to school...

He didn’t work, used us for government assistance. He treated my mom horrible. He never gave us nothing. No love, no clothes food nothing. The one man that’s supposed to protect and provide different. The name calling emotional financial abuse just so he could be in control I got away and fought back. Both parents should be an active role in their son and daughters life. Good or bad. You shouldn’t pawn the females off with the females and the males off with the males. It’s a family unit, punish them them accordingly. It doesn’t mater if they’re a girl or boy. Girls don’t get a free pass for dads and boys shouldn’t get a free pass for moms. That’s how you raise mommas boys/daddy’s girls. Then their spouse deals with their entitlement issues.

He just came for advice on how to raise your daughter and Steve could say is how he gave them everything they ask for, I firmly believe in discipline when it comes to kids but as a father, you need to have some sort of ground rules when raising kids especially girls and there are many ways to teach them some sort of a lesson but it is also very important not to drive them away from you just have a good understanding with your kids and respect one another. There will come a time when the teenage phase strikes just make sure you as a parent prepare for disappointments and make sure we exercise patience and love them no matter the situation.

I don’t know why raising the girls to never be told “no” and to be entitled and spoiled is being applauded though. I have two daughters and they’ll know to be respectful and appreciative of the things they have, not angry because they expect more. I know that all kids have different personalities and you can’t mold them exactly how you want them, but you can definitely steer them towards being a good person

He would Never spank Me, but he would hit the bed, and I would pretend to cry, so mom would think I'm getting it. That was one of our favorite private jokes. (lol) I Love you, Daddy, (Calvin G. I absolutely hate the idea that you somehow can't discipline your children just because you don't want to "put your hands on them" or spank them. Children can be disciplined without physical punishment. I was never once spanked by either or my parents, but I was held accountable and disciplined for my wrong actions. Take their phone away, or take other privileges away, talk to them about what they did wrong, ground them for a period of time, etc. Some of the most effective punishments I ever received were when my mom took away my favorite toy. That was worse to me than any type of spanking, and I also didn't grow up learning that it's okey to hit or spank someone just because they do something you don't like.

I swear not having a stable, admirable, protective father is why I struggle with finding a good man. Your relationship with your daddy as a girl is such a major part of being a woman and who we look for to love us. My dad abused me, groomed me and exploited me in ways a man never should. Luckily, I still have my one true Father in heaven to guide me and hope He will introduce my future husband to me very soon. I’m just waiting on you, Lord.

what happens when you spoil your daughters and later down the track you lose your job.....they will end up being angry that you have to stop giving them what they want when they want it. I have 4 daughters and I teach them that you cant have everything you want just because you want it, but that you have to work for it and i have used this ever since my oldest was born and she is now an adult and not once have i had any of my kids throw a tantrum because they cant get what they want. Every child should be disciplined and taught from a young age then you wont have issues if money becomes tight years down the track
@Lxsslonely

He just did what he felt was right at the time (and even now). Thats good that the way you raised your daughters another way, and they turned out okay. I think kids also have a choice on how they want to be as adults, no matter that their past was. Of course, the past will likely have a huge influence on how they are as adults if they let it, but it's hard to say what the future will bring based on a certain upbringing. We don't know that the daughters will end up being angry and continue being angry if the dad lost his job. That is wayy too childish and narcissistic for someone to react like that (Although i'm sure it does happen sometimes), it does look like something that a movie would portray, like the twin girls in the movie "White Chicks" There are so many influential people today who came up from a less than ideal upbringing, who chose to be great people, and not let their past dictate them in a negative way. Obama, he apparently did not have a relationship with his dad. Oprah, she was raped by a family member when she was young. Elon Musk's parent's divorced when he was very young. This last part is just to show that parent's actions many times don't equate who kids grow up to be. Never the less, very interesting and difficult topic to talk about, and thank you for posting your opinion!

My parents almost never physically disciplined me (maybe 3 times in my life). However, there are other ways to discipline children. For example, for letting them deal with concequences of their actions. If a child gets a bad grade for example, that bad grade is already a punishment, no need for additional if you help them understand the gravity. Talking to them and explaining what would or did happen and why, as well as rewarding honesty through comforting and setting up a plan to deal with the mistake or failure.

Haha, my dad spanked me like he spanked my brother no difference at all... Although less often because he was more disobedient than I. He just explained to me that those were consequences of my actions that I was warned several times not to do. He had no problem teaching me not to accept physical abuse from any man. Why do people think their kids, if spanked, will think it's ok to be abused? Do you guys think it's ok for your man to take away your salary, put you in time out in a corner and precent you from watching TV? Nope you don't. You understand that those were ways your loving parents were disciplining you as a child, and now that you are an adult, things changed... No other adult can do those things to you. Same goes with spankings.

Really? It's fine if you don't want to spank your girls but they MUST be disciplined for sure. Catering to a child's every whim is a recipe for disaster. I'm not saying we should unduly deny our children but letting them know they can't have everything they want when they want it gives them a taste of the real world.

My father was exactly the opposite. Exactly the opposite in every way. Smh. Lol One time a boyfriend bought a pair of shoes and my dad said I was a yard tool (different word) and was selling my self. He beat me for small things and never once said he was proud of my success. Didn't stop me though When I listen to things like this from Steve I understand better why I never expected anything from relationships. Not in a jaded kind of way. I just didn't expect it I was just telling my daughter that I have never even received roses from a man. She was shocked. Lol At 53 it's a good possibility that might not happen. Lol Such is life.

I say time outs for the 3 year old (because they love to run around). For the 8 year old, you can do no dessert, no tv/video games, etc. Overall, you just want to take away what they like to do or any other privileges. My nieces/nephews cry more from a time out that I put them in vs when their parents spank them.

In my 30 years of life, my father has only physically disciplined me twice. The 1st time, not really sure why, but I know I deserved it. The 2nd time, I got into a fight with my brother, started dropping some f bombs and my daddy came home from work, heard the commotion, got the belt and tore my hand middle up. Ever since that day, I have never sworn because it shows that the vocabulary is subpar. Lol. My dad just talks your ears off and then he leaves the physical discipline up to my mum and she goes in for a short woman. Lol. He better tag team them and remove privileges.
