Manal Issa, Nathalie Issa & Matthias Schweighöfer are interviewed for The Swimmers. Directed by Sally El Hosaini, the film stars Nathalie Issa (Yusra), Manal Issa (Sara), Matthias Schweighöfer (Sven), Ahmed Malek (Nizar), James Krishna Floyd (Emad), Nahel Tzegai (Shada) and Kinda Alloush (Mervat) with Ali Suliman (Ezzat). Stefan Pape dives in with his questions.
Plot: Based on a true story, The story follows the journey from war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics. Two young sisters embark on a harrowing journey as refugees, putting both their hearts and champion swimming skills to heroic use.
The film hits select cinemas on November 11 and on Netflix from November 23rd.

Just finished the Movie, what an incredible story. These Actors did an amazing Job. Spoiler alert but so sad to hear to real Sara Is being held In Greece for just trying to help people.

I live in Germany and as a kid I grew up with many arabic people. This movie is so emotional for me and I cried through the whole movie. It hurts that thus is going on in the world. My heart hurts for every person who had to flee their country.

Eu chorei muito nesse filme, eu precisava de um propósito para voltar a viver. Esse filme me fez ter um propósito, porque sem propósito ficamos muitos exposto a depressão.

Yusra Mardini answered this on TikTok and the cousin was fictionalized, it’s a combination of her two cousins who were with them. He doesn’t become a DJ. He lives in Berlin and he’s currently working and studying!
