In another video I saw the guy used a car hood underneath the front of the log so it would be a smooth pull (edge of log not getting caught on ground or ramp). Good video, thanks.

I have the same winch and am glad to see your review as I will be loading logs too you pretty well answered my questions, you really need to get a cant hook to handle those logs much safer and makes job a lot easier you mite also consider a snatch block it cuts load on winch in half and doubles pull power, that's some nice wood you have there thanx

Thanks, I definitely need a cant hook. I have looked at some snatch blocks, but have not purchased one yet.

Same reason I bought mine too, the national park I live near has logs all over the side of the road just chilling.

now weld or drill a small 4 - 5 inch bar strait up at the back of the trailer and the other side at the back something to place your hook. both should be up on your railing . then run your wire to the first bar then in front of the log . front being the nearest too the truck then run it too your other welded bar forming a V shape. center the wire on the log. now u can remove the log off your trailer with the same winch.....i hope this helps you and your back...cheers

IF you get some skidder tongs it will make things alot easier you wont have to use that chain. There are different sizes so make sure that you get some large enough.
@benca6151
@benca6151 5 жыл бұрын
Like the video however i see two things you should do. First make a loop out of that chain tail you had left and use it to hook to the winch so you don't have any chain dragging on the ground. Second make a can't hook or buy one to control/roll those logs around. It is so much easier on your back!

Some thing to concenter take and wire to your battery pos and neg would be a 6 gauge with copper lug's then back to your hitch then put a "Anderson style connector" on it and the other plug end on the winch you'll find that the winch will work better: Moving log's if you are doing a lot of it think about a log arch, look one up they are not that hard to make and on the front end put a hand winch to pull the end down and then secure with a chain in chain hook's: On long log's up to 47' I've used two arches and pull them with the same winch you are using and a second on a hoist to lift the logs onto the trailer using a 5 to 1 block and tackle to give me a12,500 lb lift capacity but I did go with a 1/2 inch cable: My boom arm could be raised to 33 degrees and hand cranked out in two section's 5ft and 3ft and then my whole hoist could be raised up to 48 inches higher, actuality used a "HF" hoist to mount my hoist to my trailer 3 point's on side 1/3 from each end and middle on both sides of my trailer I also had out rigger's.

Great video. I plan on using mine to haul some logs in my yard. How did you get the hook through the cable guide rollers?
@BRadWilson3

I had to take the small snap ring off one of the rollers and then feed the cable thru. Then reinstall roller.

Yes they are only 6 ft long. I do not have the equipment at home to move anything much bigger. These will be good for the thick slabs for coffee tables. Thanks

The way you're moving those logs around by hand makes me think I would have just grabbed onto that choke chain and dragged them up that little incline into the trailer. Wait, is he still loading that first log? Is he moving them one 6' log at a time? He's just a kid, right? At least he's not just sitting around playing video games.

Why didnt you use the winch to unload it too? Ive got the same size trailer and winch & I do as little manual labor loading or unloading! The only thing YOu need to watch for is cable cross over and wedge between wraps when you free wheel your winch line!

If the remote is the only way to control it, this is a concern to me. These things fail all the time. Would like to see a hard wire drive as well, does it have one?

Dude wirewheel all your weld joints and added steel. Then wipe off with a clean rag then clean again with acetone. Then paint with Rustoleum paint to prevent ring & corrosion for safety purposes.

After commenting that Harbor Freight only used 4 ‘ of 10awg,for connecting the battery to the motor, you add 20 more foot of 10awg. Like you didn’t think maybe connecting the next size thicker wire like an 8awg that actually goes to the battery should be done. I understand that you may not not be using it to full capacity but at least suggest to your listeners that if your going to extend almost 25 ft it should at least be at a larger gauge depending on the amount of amperage that your drawing from the battery, just to get back to the Harbor Freights wires and for voltage drop over that same span.

Quit kicking the log and just hang onto it to guide it onto the trailer. It won't bite you. Thanks for showing the winch platform on the trailer front frame. That 22" 6' ash log weighed around 600#

Your supposed to run the line out all the way except maybe 12 foot then reel it back in pulling something at least 500 lbs to set your cable that's what the instructions say , you may have done this but just didn't put it in the video, anyway it's supposed to keep your cable from binding up so if that ever happens and you didn't set the cable you will know why, I saw a video where a man didn't do it and his cable slipped off the reel and he then blamed the wench and said it was a piece of crap.
@BRadWilson3
@BRadWilson3 4 жыл бұрын
I did do that, this particular winch has a space between the housing where if you are not paying attention and to much wire gets on one side it drops down in. On the bigger 3500# winch it is designed different and get get stuck.
