Nice looking trailer. Your welding skills are improving with every video. I would highly recommend that you paint over the primer very soon. Primer is porous and it is designed to have paint stick to it. Moisture, water, etc can penetrate the primer and the metal underneath. If the primer is left exposed for a while, the paint you eventually put on top will not stick very well. You need a top coat to seal the primer. Don't wait too long or you will have to sand and re-prime. Thanks for posting the video. Excellent work as usual.

Great work Matt! Don't leave that paint without a top coat for too long. Primer is porous and will rust. It's just harder to see with the rust color of the primer. Painting over rust will not stop it from progressing.

Hey matt! Awesome video man. I too am making a log arch trailer. Hope to make great videos on how I did mine. I have seen how you did yours and from that been able to come up with my own version. My trailer also is going thru a complete rebuild of the suspension,brakes,wiring ect. Will be also installing brakes on the other axle so it will have them on both axles. I also on October 1 2019 bought a sawmill I hope to very soon be able to make enough money with the equipment to start doing this full time. Although your fabricoble is pretty good I can only hope my many years of experience will allow me to make it look better. Lol. Your videos are an inspiration although I wont be able to make huge slabs like you do from the beginning I do plan on making a mill much like the yours. Who knows maybe I'll pick up a sponsor along the way.

@stevensargent6222

Good engineering and fabrication. Too go with the very heave load's think about a 3 to 1 or up to a 5 to 1 block and tackle from the winch cable to the arch. Here's some thing I've posted befor that you might like: I was using a "Harbor Freight" 2,500 lb winch 2 of them: Some thing to concenter take and wire to your battery pos and neg would be a 6 gauge with copper lug's then back to your hitch then put a "Anderson style connector" on it and the other plug end on the winch you'll find that the winch will work better: Moving log's if you are doing a lot of it think about a log arch, look one up they are not that hard to make and on the front end put a hand winch to pull the end down and then secure with a chain in chain hook's: On long log's up to 47' I've used two arches and pull them with the same winch you are using and a second on a hoist to lift the logs onto the trailer using a 5 to 1 block and tackle to give me a12,500 lb lift capacity but I did go with a 1/2 inch cable: My boom arm could be raised to 33 degrees and hand cranked out in two section's 5ft and 3ft and then my whole hoist could be raised up to 48 inches higher, actuality used a "HF" hoist to mount my hoist to my trailer 3 point's on side 1/3 from each end and middle on both sides of my trailer I also had out rigger's. I cut and milled a lot of tree's for timber framing.

Hello Matt. Love your stuff. I have been inspired by your work. So much so that I have built a log arch based on your design. I have noticed your arch does not just free fall when you get past center. Did you do something to make that possible? If so please elaborate a bit. Thanks!! Marshal

The pins are tight and I don't grease them. That add enough friction to keep the arch from falling without a load applied

Let me start this comment by saying I know nothing. But, I have a question/idea/thought. If you were to start all over again, would you consider trying to mount something directly to the axle? I'm imagining cutting the trailer floor and welding some really heavy gauge steel directly to the axle that sticks up thru the floor and then you build your levers on that. I know it would set back from the end of the trailer a bit but you would be anchored to the strongest part of the trailer. I'm just curious in case I ever build something like this. BTW, great job. If I had started out, I would have used the same approach you've taken. I'm only thinking about the axles now because it seems like a lot to "beef up" the edges. The more I think about anchoring on the axles, the more I like the idea.
