I played a game similar to that... We started off with a simple mix of safe liquids (safe meaning, consumable with out causing lasting heath effects or needing medical attention at any point), and every body would take a soda cap full, and every round a new liquid would be added... It got to the point where the taste didn't change and we called an end to the game... And in case you are wondering, it was on a church trip, so the liquids included all soda flavors, pickled plum juice, hot sauce, etc... And a different person picked a new liquid to add each round...

In the dogfighting story it could have taken a different turn. It mentioned that there were no magical inertial dampers. I feel like we would still dominate the avian based xenos due to our ability to survive more g than them. A lot more. If they were avian AND from a much lower gravity planet, they would be extremely fragile. We currently pull like 9g in dogfighting and I think the Saturn V was like 12-13g on launch ? With no magic inertial dampers there's no way the avians could match our maneuvering and acceleration limits.

The alternative is "humans had no fighters", their ships were huge armoured blocks covered in point defence. The only craft they launched accelerated at our ships like large armoured torpedoes, they didn't explode however, they did something no other species ever thought possible. They boarded half our ships, took them from the inside. And then, if that wasn't significant enough one of their ships fired a single shot at an uncaptured ship, no one even saw it coming, there was no time for it to evade. They have railguns....

"The eggs are an egg substitute. You wouldn't like what they use as eggs, here. The salt is salt, and it surprises them that we eat it. They think it's poison." Oh c'mon, salt and water? The author of that one was trying to be too clever. Still, it's hilarious to listen to the rest of it. I guess when your microbiology advances a billion years because multicellular life keeps getting knocked back by mass extinction events the chemistry does get a bit complex.

Water and salt can make some fantastical sense since if we assume these aliens do not need water, then water would be absolutely dangerous due to being a universal solvent. Salt too since we already know what it does to smaller organisms and what too much can do to a person. It's not feasible in our current understanding, but it is fantastically feasible.

That might work really well. Having that many small drones, the human military would probably focus on offense and not defense of any sort. No EM armor, only enough radiation shielding to block solar blasts. Would the massive ships control them remotely, or would humans allow the drones to be smart enough to run independently while the carrier just ferries them around? Both have pros and cons of course. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on it.

@@nicholashernandez4611 I think if each drone operated independently, it would be an insane drain on resources.
@nicholashernandez4611
@nicholashernandez4611 3 жыл бұрын
@@pensive7270 That is only true if each drone was remotely controlled by the carrier. Each drone could have a powerful but relatively small computer onboard to handle themselves. All you need is navigation, target acquisition, knowledge of friendly units, and an objectives list. Beyond that, fly them until their fuel runs out and ammo runs dry. Pick them up if you can and self destruct the ones that can’t be collected. Onboard computer means no latency issues, carrier computer isn’t encumbered with all that computing, that translates to faster dogfights. Exponentially higher risk of friendly fire, each drone costs far more, and you better hope to never fight a foe that can reverse engineer or your supremacy will be threatened. Then there’s the carrier brain dilemma. If the carrier is the brain of all the drones, it will end up having a lot of heat from all those computations. Farther from the carrier, more latency as those signals cross the distance. Any of a thousand ways to interrupt, intercept, block, or even hijack such signals given time. Either your drones are simply floating in space or they are your enemy’s drones now. Just some thoughts.
@pensive7270
@pensive7270 3 жыл бұрын
@@nicholashernandez4611 yep. I also think nuclear weapons would be effective given the ranges it can get in space without an atmosphere to hold it down. And unless humans have put down the extra resource cost of emp shielding in each drone that would make it even more of a resource. But I just had a thought, of similar carriers but carrying miners, refineries, and manufacturers. That might solve the resource problem. But in the end there’s just to many issues to call these drone carriers a one vs. all type of ship.

They were just using the wrong molecules. If they had sprinkled arsenic or cyanide on George’s food he wouldn’t have survived slumping to the floor. That said, adrenaline has more effects than just strength limitation removal. I would imagine xenos could still use it to combat phobias and help increase aggression levels. Also a potential insomnia treatment for species who can’t survive methylxanthines.

Your voice is certainly developed over many years, but I have to criticize, with all due respect for your career of a voice, that you miss out on punctuating with any sort of inflection beyond that of the constant monotone of a National Geographic narrator cursed with sounding like a text-to-speech voice developed in 2030. No offense to you whatsoever, but that's the impression. High quality narrative reading voice, for sure, but lower quality narrators seem to make up for their lesser-practiced voices by adding color to what they read out. Yours, however, is almost always the same exact tone, removing impact from possible high-impact sentencing.
