More rodeo fun. Footage from the Pro Rodeo in beautiful Hiawassee, Georgia. Wonderful weather, wonderful people. Many thanks to Southern Rodeo Company for their hospitality.
For the video nerds: this was my first time trying a static position. In the past I've shot hand-held and from my Manfrotto Element MII monopod. The problem with both is that the camera tends to tilt too much for my tastes. The action is very fast and tracking animals and cowboys can be a real challenge. For this event, I used a travel tripod, a Leofoto Ranger model that sadly, seems to no longer be available. At the Shady Dale rodeo, I had very limited mobility so I used a carbon fiber Manfrotto 190x that I literally dug holes in the dirt to get it as low as possible.
Camera bodies for all my rodeo videos are Sony A7IV. For that action I use a Sony 70-200 f/4 lens and for the crowd shots I'm using a Tamron 20-40 f/2.8, usually on a Ronin RS3 Pro gimbal. Footage is 10 bit 4:2:2 at 60fps.
If you have any questions about my approach to shooting rodeo, or any suggestions on ways I can do a better job, please comment below. Thanks for watching!
