SKS finally getting some respect all these years later. Bought my norinco in ‘95 for $85. I was 18, the gun was brand new in the cosmoline. Really glad I never “accessorized” it like I wanted to back then. And glad I never sold it.

This video speaks to me. Growing up in the 1980s and 90s and going to the gun shows of that time with my Dad and Granddad was something special. Most of the firearms they purchased over the years came from that era, many of which are still in the family. I remember seeing a lot of SKS rifles at the time, they were cheap and so was the ammo so for the poor folks, it was a common hunting rifle. But dang if it wasn't a good one. Put a lot of wild game in the freezer with the SKS. Still have it, too.

My dad still has his Gen 2 Glock 22 & Glock 27 he bought in the 90s. The Glock 22 was his police service pistol from 1999 to 2010, and that’s what I grew up shooting. The .40 S&W hype was real. The 9mm was considered a “girly round,” and you didn’t shoot a semi auto caliber that didn’t start with a “4.” My dad and I have since switched to 9mm carry guns, lol. Good times.

Our duty went to .40 cal but I kept my .45 so much better to shoot. The .40 was just too snappy. 9 mm and .45 much smoother and linear recoil

I had an FFL back in those days and would often bring used SKS rifles out to the farm to shoot around a bit before I'd resell them. My Dad, who was never really into firearms other than ones he considered essential, took a liking to the old SKS for some reason. After I'd made a few dollars as a dealer I bought a couple AK variant rifles for myself and brought them out to shoot around. My Dad looked over an Akm, recognizing it from popular movies from the day, like say, Rambo, Red dawn or anything similar. He asked how it operated, what caliber it was, how the magazine was inserted into the receiver, where the safety was, and finally he asked, was it ready to shoot? I had already fired off a few round in it so I reloaded the mag back to it's 30 round capacity and handed the AKM to him. He in turn, charged it, dropped the safety and dumped the entire magazine faster than anything I had ever seen in my life. He's nearing 79 years old now and still laughs about breaking in my 'new' Akm rifle back in 1994...

I bought a Chinese SKS in 1994 for $49.00. None of the numbers matched. Spike bayonet. The stock was pretty rough. It didn't like soft point ammunition. However, with surplus steel cased full metal jacket rounds I never had a failure to fire. It was fired until the barrel was too hot to touch. It always worked. A fun rifle to fire and I could put 10 rounds in a teacup at 30 yards. Sold it in 2017 for $200.00. Regretted doing so ever since.

Most folks probably know this already, but I didn’t realize it until a few years ago…: if you have an SKS that occasionally slam fires a few rounds at a time…clean the firing pin and the channel it sets in. My first SKS did this and I never realized that there was cosmoline caked in that kept the pin from floating inside the bolt. So when the bolt slammed closed after firing, the pin stayed protruded and acted like an open bolt MG 😂😂 Take that bolt apart and thoroughly clean those parts. Better to have that pin and channel clean and dry than to oil it.

I still love these guns. I have a g27 and g22. I love the 9mm also I have a couple of those also. But I'm really getting bored only seeing videos about 9mm. I have been in my best local gun store and they not have a single gun in 40. Nearly everything is 9mm. Anyways, thank you for this video. There are more calibers than 9mm... all of them excellent. you laugh but I purchased my first rifle (an SKS straight out of a crate packed in cosmoline grease for $89) in 1994 at a gun show. That rounded out my 3 gun with a Mossberg and a berretta, once I converted the SK with a detach well and six 50 round mags. there is no telling how many rounds I put down range with that thing. And I delt with a few guys at my range looking down their nose at it, till we shot a round or 2 with open sites at 300 yards. Had on guy with a M1 got down right mad and packed his gear and left when I hammered him in two 5 round shoots. Good times.

im surprised of all the guns we keep making like the AKM, m4, m14 and whatnot but the sks is not remade. I really feel with todays ambition and knowhow we could easily have an sks chambered in popular calibers and be both box mag fed and detachable mag fed. A great semi auto, reliable, and accurate rifle with a traditional stock is lacking today.

I was 23 going on 24 then. Got my SKS around that time from a buddy that had already put nylon stock and a factory scope mount and scope. Mini 14s were very popular around where I lived then as well.

This is my 1st armed in video to watch and I love it because I love old firearms that are kindred to the times I had them. I also like run on sentences. I can't believ what P-series Rugers are worth now. Polymer is so much cheaper than alloy now. regardless. Life is Good!

Back in 1993., the Chinese SKS rifles were 69.95. You could go into a gun shop, walk over to a wooden crate, and pick out the one you wanted. They were packed in cosmaline and it took forever to clean them up, but they are a hoot to shoot. And you could buy a 20 round box of Wolf ammo for about 1.99

I still keep my Glock 23 in my bedside safe. I used to argue with people that 9mm had some real advantages back when everyone carried 40 - now feels like I’m still the only person using one 😂. Great gun, no desire to upgrade. I do use Glock 43 for my edc for what it’s worth.

@@jonvon2044 modern day 9mm vs modern day .40 is not just as comparable. The .40 will always be the better performing round. The only advantages for 9mm are the couple round extra capacity and less felt recoil. A person can train through the snappiness and carrying a pistol with 14-17 rounds of .40 is solid. .45 however shouldn’t even be in the conversation. Way less capacity and less performance. .45 happens to be my favorite round but not for carry.

I paid $75 for a cosmoline packed SKS in 1994. I bought the bayonet cheap as well... forget how much I paid for that, but it wasn't much. Nice shooting rifle, and it is still in the family with my son.

Mine was the Browning HI-Power, Remington 870, and Ruger Mini 14. The combination of weapons was becoming huge but no where as huge as it is now. I still have the Browning and the 870.

I recognize those sights on that 23. I have a 17 Police trade-in (Gen 2) from the same time period that has them. I've replaced the guide rod and recoil spring and did a trigger upgrade on it and it is super accurate and so easy to shoot well. No rail but then, that's OK.

You're not going to believe this, but in 1994 I had a Glock 23, a Russian SKS (that I paid $100.00) for, and by early 2000s, I had a used Benelli Super 90 M1. Still have the Super 90 and the Russian SKS, but not the Glock 23 (sold it years ago). I do have a police trade in Glock 22, though.

"Life is like a box of shotshells,,, you don't know what you'll hit, until you shoot." Nice choices, but I would have leaned towards a H&K G3. Many folks liked the SKS or the Ruger Mini 14, but the 7.62 NATO/308 Win is a more versatile round in my opinion.

In the late 90s I bought a 12 ga Benelli and two SKSs and a 44 mag S&W wheel pistol. They were good choices. The Ruskies did make a good cheap rifle. The Benelli had chrome plating in the barrel and action cost $1200. Best shot gun ever. Bought my first smi auto pistol in 08 Springfield 1911 SS very good gun.
