My grandmother bought me this exact pistol for my 18th birthday. I'm 36 years old now, have carried it in my pickup everyday since and fired many shots through this gun. Thousands of shots. Very durable pistol as well. God bless you grandma, we miss you.

That's what passion for something can do to a person. He is self made, from his decades of experience shooting, reloading and learning, to his search to have land to be able to shoot anytime he wanted, to building his 'compound'.. Doing what you love to do and making that happen is what it's all about. Enjoying it with your Son is an additional bonus and the frosting on the cake. Only here in America, indeed life is good.

I have the same model Ruger but with hogue grips. I have a box of 310 grain hard cast cartridges from Garret. It is a beast with those rounds, but oddly fun to shoot. Mostly I shoot American Eagle, 240 grain. Not bad at all to shoot. The gun is incredibly accurate, but for some reason I don’t get the same results that Mr. Hickok45 gets. What a skilled gunman!

I've carried my 5.5" barrel Ruger Redhawk and a Winchester 94 trapper model outdoors on hunting and camping trips and as a working cowboy out west since 1984 . Back in the day ; those were the only 2 guns I had for a good 25 years . Now I have a safe full of handguns ; rifles and shotguns ......but when I saddle up my horse ; that old Winchester goes in the scabbard and my old Redhawk is on my hip period ! Both have had thousands of rounds fired thru them and neither one is worse for the wear . Both still very tight and accurate . Not a single breakage with either one . Some of the bluing was rubbed off my Winchester's receiver over the years spent in the scabbard under my leg in all kinds of weather !!!! That pair of 44s kept us safe ; well fed and provided countless hours of plinking to boot . I never had to test them on Grizzlies but everything else fell cleanly with just one well place shot . Including a big black bear that fell instantly in it's tracks as he was giving me a very dirty look one day on my ranch in Arkansas ...... ! I really am sorry that he forced my hand that day instead of going the other way like all the others did before and after him !!!

I work in corrections and cannot even start my countdown to Coronavirus quarantine until the last confirmed case is 7 days free from symptoms. I provide basic medical care, get them showered, give them food every day, therefore face exposure every single day. I can go to work, and home, and that is it. That is on top of the daily shit I endure. I honestly can’t describe what a relief to my soul your videos have become over the last couple of weeks. I have a Redhawk JUST like that. Previously, I had a S&W 29, just like Dirty Harry's. The S&W had the better single action trigger by far, but it shot loose whenever I shot magnums through it. The Redhawk... the barrel broke off the first time I shot it, and it tumbled downrange. I sent it back to Ruger, they fixed it free of charge, with no explanation. I researched it, and the deal was that they had a new thread lock for the barrel for this run. For the guns that had their barrels doped in that threadlock right before operations were shut down for the night, the thread lock dried before morning, so that when they torqued the barrels in the next morning, it stressed the steel so much that it was not long for this world. They replaced it for me and sent it back without a comment. It has been a great gun ever since. Never shot loose with magnums, except the one time, hehehe. I AM a bit disappointed that Hickock didn't shoot at least ONE cylinder of factory magnums. It puts hair on your chest. Soft Specials were my favorite, though. I could shoot them all day long and never miss at 25 yards.

The Ruger Redhawk has to be one of the greatest revolvers ever, they are built like a tank and yet mine at least has a wonderful SA and DA trigger pull, nothing not to like. Because they are so strongly built and have the longer chambers, you can shoot any 44 mag ammo on the market without a concern and if your wrists can hold up :)

When I was a kid I got my first firearm. Ruger 10/22 when I was 14. I got real good with it. Moving on to an SKS and spent some years with shotguns, hitting nothing but frisbees and clay. Never needed a handgun because I would borrow my uncles older model police practice revolver forgetting the maker. His service revolver was a lighter Colt Police Positive Special: Al Capone's Favorite Handgun. With his practice revolver I shot at least 600 rounds through it over the course of a few years and I got props for my groupings. The following year I got a Berretta 92FS. And after the learning curve, I was still putting in a tighter grouping with the 4" 38 and could never figure out why until about a year later after shooting only the 92. I went with my unc to the range and we would switch back and forth with each other gun. I noted that my grouping was now tighter using my 9 more than the 38 had ever been. I must of been on a better diet or something. I was still fair with the 38 but not like I was with my 9. After my uncle was done with my gun, he said and I quote, "I think I'll stick with my Colt". But one thing I did notice was that neither of us was as good of a shot as Hickok 45.

About 4 years ago I picked up a Red hawk in 44 magnum at a local gun show at a good price. It was in like new condition. I had two Smiths already, a 6 1/2 inch early model 29 and a stainless 6 inch 629, so I was no stranger to the .44 magnum. I had been reading about how Elmer Keith had contrived with Remington to come up with the 44 magnum and still have Keith's book. Although the action on the Smiths is somewhat smoother, the overall strength of the Redhawk is somewhat stronger. Buffalo Bore and similar high performance ammo is specifically noted to be used only in stronger revolvers, ie . Red hawk and not revolvers built to lessor strength. I have loaded many rounds of the standard Keith 250 grain bullets/ ie, the Lyman 429421 hard cast out of metal and it never leads the bore. While I have a couple of holsters for the Smiths, I did not have one for the Red hawk so I sourced one and a matching belt and have yet to try it out since I just got it. Both the Smith and Wesson and Ruger guns ( Red hawk and Super Red hawk) are very reliable guns

My favorite gun...tough call between the Redhawk, GP100, and S&W 686, but the Hawk wins out. It's accurate, comfortable, pretty, shoots like a dream, and built like a tank. I have two, I'll never get rid of either.

The Birds of Prey, Blackhawks, Redhawks, and Super Redhawks are all excellent. Well maybe that standard Blackhawk's square trigger guard could be altered to make it more fun to shoot. Excellent video as usual. Thank You!

My favorite Redhawk was a 7.5” in 357 mag. I handloaded a 220 gr swc over a large dose of H110. It was an awesome gun and quite reliable at taking down the 200 meter Rams. Unfortunately, I sold it.

24 of 25 shots hit their mark with that RUGER. Now it's time for you to see if your S&W can equal or better that? I like my 686, but I'm betting the Redhawk wins that battle. Looking forward to part 2.

Bought my first "married" gun, (1st gun I bought after getting married) and it was a Blued Ruger Super Redhawk way back in 1988. I was going to get the S&W but after looking at the revolvers side by side, I chose the Ruger as it just looked more beefy than the S&W. Don't regret my purchase one bit!!! It shoots everything I put in it including hot reloads! I recently purchased a Henry BigBoy in 44 just so my Ruger wouldn't get lonely ;-) Don't regret that purchase either!!!
