This video documents over a dozen campsites along several different trails that connect to Double Arch Road. These sites vary in size and amenities; many of the most desirable sites have lots of space and access to breathtaking overlooks.
This video includes only a small section of the gorge, but the number of excellent sites here may be surprising to many hikers and campers. Also, don't be surprised when many of these sites fill up early in the day, particularly on busy weekends. If you are interested in some of the arches and other landmarks in this area, check out our other videos on Star Gap Arch, Cruiseliner Rock, Jailhouse Rock, Double Andrews Arch and others.
Remember: we should all camp responsibly and remind ourselves that campers lose their lives at RRG almost every year. Most of these tragedies could have been prevented by proper planning and abstaining from dangerous behavior.
Special thanks to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for his musical inspiration.
Filmed in June 2020 at Red River Gorge.

Gotta say… thanks for sharing these awesome sites y’all. I’m a disabled vet and can’t hike like I used to and this was very doable. The veranda is amazing. Thanks again and keep it coming! 👍🍺

Excellent video. Just scouted out the Veranda on a day hike, and I can't wait to camp there. I was surprised it was empty on a holiday weekend.

Wow never knew about the veranda! Definitely checking it out this Friday. My favorite spot in the whole gorge (so far) is camping right on top of Indian staircase

FYI guys where you see that 'junk' it is actually on private property, so beware...some of that trail skirts private property. Back in the 1980s that ridge was one of my favorite places to go, and you could drive back much of that area and car camp. The 'road' stayed open because of the owner wanting access to the back of his property...probably to dump his junk! It used to look much worse than it does today. Anyway, you are safe on the Star Gap side (North side) of that ridge...just don't bare a left too many times or you may meet the land owner!

Great video! Hey I took my son to that trail and about 9:30 in where the trash is we thought we were lost or on private property because just past that it's like someone made a permanent home out of tents and tarps. This was a couple of years ago but regardless we turned around. I wish we knew where to continue after that as it seemed to dead end.. was I supposed to continue and if so would you happen to have the GPS or some video of where it continues after the trash? Thx

How long would it take to hike from parking lot to some of these campsites?

Hi Thomas, There are a number of unofficial campsites just 20-30 minutes from the Auxier Ridge Parking lot. However these are often the most frequented ones as well. Some of the campsites near Jailhouse Rock would probably take over an hour to reach, and some require one to scramble up and down some tricky rock formations. And some, like the Veranda, are both popular and remote. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Hi Chuck; yes this hike begins at the end of Tunnel Ridge at Auxier Ridge. It has been very busy there lately, maybe a weekday is the best time to go these days. Thanks for watching!
