I would keep those boulders and rocks for landscaping, and to use in area where erosion could happen in the rainy season. Those rotting pieces of wood are great to bury in your raised beds to compost for better soil. I look forward to seeing your gardens.

Thanks and that is great point about the wood. I am keeping the rocks so I can fix the rock retaining wall that is falling apart.

Totally worth the cost for the numbers of days they worked, number of workers, septic tank, AND disposal! Disposal seems to be expensive in Japan! Very beautiful yard! So inspiring!

Looks great. An idea i just got after watching the video is using the area behind the garage as a wood cutting area out of sight and then using the area behind the house as a stacking area. You could stack it up all along the back concrete wall of the house. This will make it easier to get it into the house as you will be wheelbarrowing down and not up and you won't have nasty wood debris everywhere in the new area. It will also get good wind which is what dries wood out mostly. Cut the stuff behind the garage and load it directly into the Kei truck and then transport to stacking area behind the house and stack along the wall. Having a long, neat wood stack behind the house wood look pretty cool too. Stacking wood directly against a building like the garage that is not seasoned already can spread mold and invite pests and insects into the building.

That's a great point! We have some plans for that back part too, so we will see. I am also able to stack the ready to burn wood in the car port area next to the sliding door. I drive my truck right up to it.

Your yard is looking really good! I love seeing the progress, and am curious about the price as well. All the rubble in the ground reminds me of our neighborhood in New Orleans, the Lower Ninth Ward. You couldn't put a shovel in the ground without digging up remnants from former hurricanes. Literally every shovel would be full of garbage, because the practice of burying rubble was really similar to this. Good for you for taking the effort to clean up!

What a huge improvement! Lots more flat usable space. I love pottering in my garden and look forward to seeing your garden beds come to fruition. I love cilantro (we tend to call it coriander in Australia) but my sister says it tastes like soap to her.

Thanks for watching! I know I have many great plans for sure. I used to judge people that don't like cilantro 🙂 but I read somewhere that cilantro does taste like soap to some people because of their genes...so I no longer judge I just feel sorry for them haha

You were wise to hire some guys with machinery to help get the upper yard cleaned up. It looks like they did a terrific job & saved you weeks (or months) of work. If you're not sure what you're going to do with the yard yet, I might suggest that it looks ready for the yard to simply be fertilized & seeded, as long as you have some water hoses to get the the grass seed germinating. I'm curious what type of grass grows best in your part of Japan... maybe something like a Fescue or Zoysia type of grass? Keep up the work, your property looks better each video.

Great progress - looking really good! Though, It looks to me like the raised back yard areas, sloping towards the house, would appear to have the potential to direct alot of water (e.g., in a heavy rain) towards your house. Though these houses do not have dug basements, correct? So no danger of water saturating the ground adjacent to the house and encroachment into the house (e.g., into a basement). Here in the NE US, with dug basements/foundations, water control (and wet basements!) can be a big problem.

@cocolenchojapan 3 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching! my moms side of the family is from a small town in Nebraska called Albion. I have heard all about the basements in the farm houses haha. I was concerned at first and every time it rained hard I would go out and inspect the backyard. So far no problem. You are correct, there are not basements and I have a nice french drainage around the house. I am not that concerned anymore.

@@cocolenchojapan good to hear that you have no water intrusion issues! And ooops - by "NE US" I meant northeastern US, but of course NE is Nebraska (thank you! for the reminder) I actually live in Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia.
