I was angry. I kept saying why hadnt I heard about these women before? What other history is kept from us? It's an inspiring story. I wish I had strong, intelligent women like these to look up to as a child.

If you haven't yet, I highly recommend reading the book that the movie is based on. It goes more in depth and tells much more of the story.

... and read the book.... it is more impressive. I watched the movie and then I bought the book to see how accurate it was. It was fairly good, but it could not tell in 2 hours the full story.

I disagree on one point. After laws were equally applied then civil rights job was done and after civil rights laws were past the ball is now in each citizens court to do with as they please. Its correct to say black Americans started behind white Americans but that does not mean they had to stay there. MLK said after blacks were freed then they were free to only die which is kinda the idea you seem to be working with but I don't agree with that school of thought because anyone is free to die as a slave just give up. Once you have freedom you now have the chance to live. Fredrick Douglass is the prime example of this very idea. The man was literally freed from slavery when and got himself an education and became a statesmen. From no chance to live to seizing every opportunity to live to his fullest. This school of thought you have is currently hanging over my trans community when really its up to us. If we show society we also contribute then society accepts us because society wants success. Some blacks throughout history have done exactly what I want to happen in the trans community and it has worked. So what you start the game late, all that means is you have more data than anyone else and can keep from following the same mistakes. Asians who came to the U.S. long after black Americans were free were even more successful than white or black Americans while still dealing with racism also. I would also point out Asian american also preach strong family units not just because of the many Asian cultures but also because they probably saw how successful it was for black Americans from the 20s to about the 50s. It does not mean blacks had it easy but at the time more black Americans percentwise were rising out of poverty faster than their white counterparts up until the government offered to take care of single mothers removing a father responsibility and eventually decaying into black men being locked up because of a lack of a man in the household to teach their young men how to act and be successful in society. When you see well off or stable black families the father almost always present. Granted I also think having 2 parents is better than one but that is an opinion backed by science.

I am so glad that such movies were made. Read the book and see that they helped conquer the speed of sound too.

I also like how it wasn’t about how “these women are smarter than the men”. They didn’t try and didn’t make it dimeaning about the “white man”.They were plenty smart and I felt that was well represented too. The ladies could literally keep up with them, it was just they’ve never gotten a chance until now really. The white women were even just like “that’s just the way it is, sorry 🤷🏼‍♀️” and it wasn’t that they were being outwardly racist, it was just that they were so used to the way of the world they couldn’t see that these things were wrong or that the women weren’t being treated equally or set to the same standard! :) (I hope this made sense the way my head made it make sense)

They were given the drudgery of computation and were going to be superceded by a machine, a broken machine not many knew how to operate. The opportunity to do any other job was not even open to them. They had to educate themselves for any possibility of staying.

Karl Zipp they chose to work there and the machine to succeed them was simply an advancement not unlike replacing the assembly line workers with machines. They were just trying to get the best results they were able to, and they took that to mean, giant computer.

There are many things that have contributed to many different parts of important history, but if each and every one of those details were added, and explained, then the history book would be much larger... These women did get recognized, otherwise there wouldn't be a movie based off of real events, which would not have been known or heard of if someone hadn't recorded them...

History books leave a ton out because to record every person working on a project like this would end up boring the average reader, so they usually give big names such as Nixon, Neil, and Buzz.

While she might not have been that well known with the general public, her work at NACA/NASA has earned her a lot of respect in the industry and beyond. NASA has named 2 buildings after her and multiple educational institutions have also named buildings and even an entire school after her. All 3 women in this movie have left their mark on NASA.
