While Nick is talking to me, he is still looking after the food and knowing its time to flip the chicken shish kebobs. That's called EXPERIENCE. Can't teach that. All the love to Nick and his family! I hope he get's a lot more people visiting his stand because of this video.

I took a road trip back to my old hood 7 years ago because my son asked, "where did you grow up and what was it like" so, we packed up and drove 7 hrs the next day. Everything was gone, different and unrecognized. Then he said he was hungry and asked where I used to eat at so, expecting it to be long gone but, Super Subs in North Miami was still there. I started smiling. My wife and I ate there in jr & sr high. Sadly she passed but I had our son and we walked inside. I was absolutely blown away the same guy and his wife still owned it. They didn't let school kids inside anymore because it isn't 1984 any longer. After talking to the owner for a few minutes he asked if we were hungry and what my son wanted. Peanut(my sons nickname) said "same as me" and before I could say 1 word, he started cooking 2 steak n onions with provolone, mayo, lettuce and pickles and I was in shock. I graduated in 1985 then joined the Marines and left and hadn't seen that guy in all those years. Actually made me emotional. I asked him how he could possibly remember me and he said "I remember you were a quiet kid." Finding an old spot, eating, drinking, smelling, all the old memories come flooding in. It's good you found Nick. You mean alot to him. Small guy, hard working, neighborhood man, still feeding his people. What a great email from his son...

I live in a small town in Minnesota and have only been to New York once--back in 1999 for a high school choir trip. I remember getting a dirty water dog at night right before we touristed up The Empire State Building. These days we have a few BBQ, taco trucks and Ice cream trucks in our home-town, but I WISH we had something like Nicks stand! I can't remember the name of the vendor we got dogs from but he was Greek and it was so similar to this! They were so good and made the experience of being a kid in "The Big Apple," complete. Thank you Chris for your content, I love watching these videos and hearing your and the vendors stories!

I wasn't sure there were hot dog vendor carts in NYC still. Thought it might have all gotten driven away. I moved out of NYC back in 1988. We lived in the Hell's Kitchen area of Manhattan, Jackson Heights and Astoria in Queens and I lived one year in Morris Park in the Bronx. Used to love getting a hot dog or soft pretzel this way. Sit on a corner or bench and commence the fine dining experience. Warms my heart that you went back and it was still like it was. I miss old NYC from the 1970s and 80s.

There's still plenty of greek owned diner's in queens, including in whitestone... Whitestone diner, Lollipop Diner, then up Francis Lewis blvd at northern Blvd you have North shore diner and the greek gyro spot across the street, plus many others. Downtown flushing not so much but it was never known for diners in general. Its been chinese and Korean since I was a kid but I do remember how main street flushing was in the 1970s before it all converted over.

Wow - memories (1990's). His stand was a MUST-STOP on the way home from school or shopping Main Street. Good hotdogs and those beef shish kebabs with the sauce and bread was IT... Good to see he's still in business. Remember him being a cool respectful guy; we’d always show him the same respect. Thinking about those kebabs now.. going to head out that way with the family.

On a related Connecticut note, try the Bridgeport Flyer in Milford. Best breakfast in town if you are in the area. Their corned beef hash is amazing.

I rarely go to Flushing these days, but I spent a lot of time in Flushing growing up. Going to the theater, the bowling alley, Carom pool hall around the block... Walking traffic there isn't that busy, especially compared to Main Street. Hope he's doing well.

Dominick 's Woodhaven Blvd St. Johns Cemetery, another classic hot dog stand we grew up with. Not sure if it is still there, the classics are hard to find
