It was a good film but clearly had feminist themes and ideas, and this is absolutely ridiculous to put feminist themes into a mad max film, also the female character had more lines and was the main hero, she also killed the main villain, ......mad max just seemed like a side character, ....so its absolutely fair for mad max fans to be upset about this, ......stop being so intellectually dishonest about this, .....if in the next wonder woman film, they put in MRA themes, and the male side actor has more lines and saved the day and killed the main villain, .......alot of people would hate this, and say this was an insult to wonder woman, to make her feel like a side character, its a complete double standard

@@brockcharz2104 you mean the movie that also implies that when the female only clan of survivors lived in what would be considered paradise, they let it die and now that clan was reduced to a few old grannies? Which can be seen as an interpretation of motherhood and Fertility and not letting it go waste?

You overlooked the redemption theme. Max redeems himself for failing to save his family. Furiosa releasing Joe's baby momma's was to redeem herself for the evil she did under Joe's rule. Her original plan was to leave alone. The jailbreak wasn't a last minute plan, but it wasn't her original. That's why she had only brokered safe passage through the bikers' territory for only herself. At the time she made the deal, she was planning to leave alone.

+k9commander I think the redemption theme is obvious. I'm glad he touched on the less obvious theme without trying to cover absolutely every theme one can possibly interpret from the film. that would take hours.

I hope I'm not the only one who saw this: at the beginning Max says he just wants to survive, and about halfway through the movie while Max and Furiosa are talking, Furiosa says she's looking for redemption, and also tells that the wives are looking for hope. And all of them believe that the solution to their problems (except for Nux of course) is running away from the Immortan Joe to get to a "Green place". Unfortunately after several intense (and very well shot) action sequences of trying to get away from Joe and his goons, they discover that the Green place is now dead via the many mothers, and they are starting to run low on supplies. Unfortunately Furiosa denies everything that she was told so she decides to try resorting to loading a bunch of (newly acquired) motorcycles with as much supplies as they can carry so that they can continue running for a while longer, even though Immortan has more supplies and will inevitably catch up with them. When Max is offered to join them, he politely refuses, stating that "you know hope is a mistake, if you can't fix what's broken, you'll go instead". And later convinces Furiosa and the wives to turn back the way they came, because he knows there is no hope in this "green place" He also states that "look, it'll be a hard day, but I can guarantee you that 3 weeks down that way, there's nothing but salt. Maybe together we can both come across some sort of redemption" My guess on another possible hidden meaning of this story, at least involving Max, Furiosa and the Wives, is that Immortan Joe and his followers represent "what's broken", or in a possible case, life's problems and the non-existent "Green place" is the happy place that everyone tries running to in order to escape their problems. And no matter how hard a person tries to follow these foolish hopes and dreams, their problems will inevitably catch up with them and ruin their life once again. So the only way they will be able to free themselves of their problems, is if they decide to turn around and face them head on, it will be difficult, and others might see it as somewhat ludicrous, but the end result will be worth it. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the whole main point that George miller may have been trying to convey, it's just something I picked up.

Hey I just wanted to say thanks for pointing out how this movie can be interpreted as egalitarian because they save the day by having men and women working together. A lot of reviewers keep going on about how this movie must be a feminist piece because, "Furiosa is hella violent and stoic yo! Feminism!"
@ArtemisJami3
@ArtemisJami3 8 жыл бұрын
+Some Rando It can be both feminist and egalitarian, although egalitarian is I believe a better way of summarizing most of the issues brought forth, there is still a gender equality aspect that is important and at a few points is more in the foreground than the other issues. But yeah, saying it's a feminist piece isn't accurate considering that the main idea is that people are treated as things, and it isn't solely based on gender the way Immortan Joe treats people.

@allyli1718
@allyli1718 3 жыл бұрын
Feminism isn’t about raising women above but keeping them equal, which this movie does by having a woman free the enslaved women and overtaking the dictator dude. That said, it’s still equal and not putting women above men because there are still good men who do the same amount of work as Furiosa, like Max and Nux. You may not like it, but this is what peak feminism looks like.
@Kushufy
@Kushufy 2 жыл бұрын
@@allyli1718 that's not what feminism is, what you are describing is egalitarianism. feminism is an activist movement about women, run by women. if you ask the average person what feminism is they will say it's about rights for women. almost all feminist organizations will be focused on issues pertaining to women. the idea that feminism is about equality when the name is essentially "womanism" is ridiculous. any person who likes equality would never advocate for change under such a biased brand.

1. They worship cars. Chrome on cars is seen as nice and of higher value. When they are about to kill themselves in battle, which will send them to "Valhalla", their heaven, they want to make themselves "all shiny and chrome". 2. Metallic spray paint is what people huff to get high. Spraying it right where they are inhaling from will make them impervious to pain and put them into a drugged out frenzy, so they are more willing to sacrifice themselves.

That's because the movie is pretty much explicit and direct, but some times people just ask to do the hidden meaning of some movies without realizing that there is not a hidden meaning at all.

No no no the meaning of Fury Road is that there is no Green Place in the world. We have to make due with what we have in this fucked up world to get as close as possible to make that Green Place a reality. The song from Guns and Roses Paradise City comes to mind "take me down to the paradise city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty. Oh won't you please take me home". Paradise was lost a long time ago we have to make our own Eden.

I hope they don't just respond to popular demand for what films to do next, but continue to search out deep and complex stories. I'm seeing a lot more latest-blockbuster-overviews rather than critically analysing long-standing films that, in my opinion, are much more worthy of the attention

I fucking hate how these are called "Hidden meanings," as if themes and subtext are new or surprising. If a whole film is about something, is it hidden?
@ArtemisJami3
@ArtemisJami3 8 жыл бұрын
+SelfAwarePedant In this movie, not really (not saying it's not deep fyi). The themes and subtexts are all right there, most of it is imagery or action down in a kind of tactile way to the point that it's hard to miss the meaning. Alot of movies, depending on the way they are shot, have parts that are hard to catch the first time through, movies like Inception need multiple viewings to catch everything. Other movies don't give you a definitive answer and often times take critical thinking as well as multiple ways at looking at the symbolism presented, movies like the Fountain for example. So, with other movies it makes sense to have a hidden meanings video, but not Mad Max. For Mad Max it makes more sense to call it a "catch-up" video, in case if someone did miss something. Also, some people watched Mad Max expecting action and nothing more, so for them the meaning is hidden.

arv synth I think he's referring to it being a review from an alien, so to him, it would be "hidden." Buuuuuuut...I don't think that "Hidden Meaning" part of the title is meant to be a play on the alien thing so much as just an attractive title that entices us to watch. Which, I mean, I'm not gonna bash someone for promoting their content. I just don't feel that's entirely representative of the content?

Not really Dieselpunk It doesn't include the proper art style and includes just as much if not more tech from the last 60's early 70's . It is really just post apocalyptic.

+shinjofox Not diseselpunk? You mean aside from the punkesk style of basically all of the characters and the full blown reliance on bulky showy big block vehicles? I will denote when you are an artist there is this thing called expression that allows you to present different takes and perspectives on what may be, in reality, partially contrary.
@shinjofox

+lazycouch1 Diesel punk isn't about punk from the 70's. Dieselpunk refers to a retro-futuristic sf sub-genre that draws from the ww1 to ww2 era mostly the 1920's,.1930's and first half of the 1940's. It is largely art deco in style. A post apocalyptic story that would be written as someone from the mentioned time period would have seen the future would be or could be considered Dieselpunk. This story , in fact none of the Mad Max movies do this because they are a vision of the future from the early 1970's. The "punk" in steampunk or diesel punk or atompunk refers to a rebelous nature against the standard views of the periods we are retroactively looking at. For example many steampunk stories feature a female lead that does not conform to the attitudes or limitations put up one women during the Victorian era.

shinjofox So like the strong female character protagonist in this show, or the very retro futuristic view that this movie clearly displays in the form of simplistic style machinery very often seen in the' punk' genre. On another note this move conforms the the genre in through the means of it's pessimistic tones. The movie more than obviously contains many unhappy and depressing details. As young adult fiction author states, diesel punk has some focus on, as you say 20's through 40's, Hitler. The antagonist completely mirrors these tones through his fascist governing. So my point is, aside from the vehicles that are from a slightly later period the rest of the movie conforms to the dieselpunk genre in a multiplicity of ways. Also almost forgot, your quote "rebellious nature against the standard views" fits this movie to a tee. I think many people would agree this film is not accurate of what a supposed realistic post apocalyptic earth would be like. It is the definition of anti-standard.
@shinjofox
@shinjofox 8 жыл бұрын
+lazycouch1 You are missing the point. One or two of these things in a story do not make it dieselpunk.. Mad Max Fury Road or indeed any of the Mad Max series are not the view of the future from a perspective from the 1930's ( or a similar time period). The movie is based on a vision of the future based in early the 1970's. The art styles are wrong in the movie to be considered part of a dieselpunk vision. Fury road contains varying art styles from the 30's.40's,50's,60, and 70's. All of the Mad Max movies are rooted in the 1970's when the first one was written and shot. It wasn't a retro view of the future it was just a view of the future from the time period it was written just as Star Trek is or Logan's run was or the Buck Rogers tv show of the early 80's. None of the aforementioned are dieselpunk , or steampunk or cyberpunk or atompunk. Don't get me wrong i enjoyed Fury Road greatly , Awesome movie. I like all the Mad Max flims but it isn't dieselpunk it is at best Post Apocalyptic punk, Which is a term that has been used before. Which is how the people who attend Wasteland would refer to it. If you want to see a movie with a dieselpunk view of an apocalypse watch H.G.Wells Things to Come 1936. If you want to see a dieselpunk art style watch Sky Captain or the Rocketeer.
