You might be right because Fenrir was small and Gram had white color. But the wolf they showed in CGI trailer was black. And I believe in the lore it was written that it was giant black wolf who fought and dragged Kratos. I hope they include him in the story later on. Also the unknown character who ordered them.

To be fair, he's a Wolf-Giant and Loki/Atreus is looking for the Giants. So its still possible if he was in Midgard and not Asgard that Atreus could still find him and free him.

If you played the asgard section in AC valhalla, odin also chained fenrir in a desolated location. You also have to gather the ingrediants for a dwarf to make this chain.

Here is what I think happened, ok so let's assume that Odin did read some prophecy that foretold his demise would be to this wolf, let's also assume that Odin did indeed chain this wolf up in Asgard, I believe if that was the case Odin would not have told anyone as it would be a potential threat to his fate, this would be the reason he never feared it being released in the Ragnarok battle as no one would no were it is to set it free. And let's assume the chain is truly unbreakable. All of this would add up to the wolf still existing and no I don't believe it would have died along with Asgard, remember, certain remnants of Asgard crashed through to the other realms like the prison the real Tyr was in or where gna was in musphelheim. The place this wolf was may have crashed into one of the realms which would be really cool to see in like an Atreus DLC or something. But that's just my thoughts

I believe that when we go to save the great wolf (garm) who has got a new name just like frigg did when she became a part of asgard, we do see the unbreakable chains. Remember, fimbulwinter weakens all. This is the reason Fenrir was able to escape in the mythology. The chain would not have just naturally

It’ll be dope if the next DLC start with Fenrir turning on Kratos & Loki shows up unexpectedly. After realizing he can’t talk Fenrir down, we then get the scene from the trailer & the first fight begins where we have to unalive Fen..

If he was in Asgard, that doesn't necessarily mean he's dead. Tyr survived when his prison fell into Nflheim. And given that his two offspring are capable of running across the sky to chase the sun and the moon, I wouldn't consider it unreasonable to assume that having the ground literally fall out from beneath him would not be too much of a problem. There were a lot of loose ends left after Ragnarok, so I won't be surprised if the next GoW game at least BEGINS in the Nine before they move on to the next one (hinted to be Egypt, but I suspect the next one will be either China or Japan). And given that Hrodvitnir was instrumental in bringing Kratos to the Nine, it won't surprise me at all if it begins with Kratos finding (or being found by) Hrodvitnir and journeying with him from the Nine as well.

Another theory would be garm = hrodvitnir , according to some norse sources fenrir = garm so it could very well that sms took hrodvitnir = garm Main reason this is because we see garm is souless even though according to stories he sounded more like he did infact had a soul only for it to be stolen at one pt Also the chain theory is weak as well since sms really could just take liberty of their own

Hroðvitnir is the original form of Garm someone just took his soul away, and he became Garm.

It's not impossible for the wolf to survive if it was chained up in Asgard. After all, we see remnants of Asgard all throughout the realms after Ragnarok. And an unbreakable chain could provide some protection to aid in the survival.

i have 2 theories. first the booring, and obvious one is the creators originally created 2 different wolves from the start but needed to remove one character or just forgot or something like that. alot of the things we were expecting and hoping for never came. that cgi trailer scene with (probably fenrir) in it for example. the other in universe theory is that if hrodvitnir is garm. the unbreakable chain chould be the immortality curse upon him. it whould be more of a poetic and metaphorical chain. that whould be a chain you whould not be able to break no matter how much power you have.

Tyr lost his arm like in the mythology but got it back with Egyptian symbols (assuming he learned magic for it there with his arm “tattoos”), with that said, yeah that weird name wolf def just took the OG fenrir role

I’m gonna be honest… I’m upset how they portrayed Fenrir in this game. A lot of people kinda miss this but when Atreus and Angrboða had there first race we see a moral of a Wolf and Fox (Atreus and Angrboða portrayed) and above them we see a wolf, Snake and a little girl. The 3 represents their children Fenrir, Jörmungandr and Hel. I was upset to see that Fenrir was just a normal wolf, Jörmungandr was a fun twist that he was sent back in time and Hel was just not in the game. All 3 children play an important part of Ragnarök, in the Mythos Odin was told he would die by a wolf so to prevent his death he banished all wolves from Asgard and stayed far away from them and when he found out Loki had a son that was a wolf he capture him and have him imprisoned and like in the vid he tried to have him bound and chained but Fenrir was too strong for these chains until he commissioned the dwarves to make Gleipnir (the unbreakable chain). Fenrir enjoyed breaking chains and thought of it as a game and boasted about his strength but when Gleipnir was introduced Fenrir sensed that there was treachery and said they can chain him with it if only someone would sacrifice their arm if he was to be tricked by the Aesir gods. Sorry for the rant I just love the Mythos, in honesty there should’ve been a middle game that took place during Fimbulwinter. There were some gaps that could’ve been filled like we could’ve seen how Atreus discovered about the Giants shrine and some other details we were unable to see.

There's something you forgot,in norse mythology when ragnarok starts all chains and binds are undone so he can't still be chained up,well unless if God of war ignores that piece of information 😂😂

Calling it now Hroovitnir's soul ended up in another body & he’s the one who was following Atreus & Kratos's journey in 2018 & he blew the horn since we know Jormie's soul in the GoW universe came from a Giant who was named Jormungandr.

This is good news considering. Garm was dissapointment if it was meant to be gow's Fenrir. Subverting expectations just for the sake of it. If cory made the game, we probably would've actually seen Fenrir, the badass one.
