I think I now understand why someone spray painted ‘Clapton is god’ this was the beginning of what we all appreciate as British blues. Your Les Paul is bang on the money tone wise.

Thank You Michael, hope all is well with you and family. I stopped playing for 3 yrs. cause of Covid, and it took a while to get back into the swing of things. Started tonight played for 4 hrs, until my finger hurt so much I couldn't play anymore.

I remember working through this bit by bit with your help over what feels like weeks and weeks feeling totally hammered at the end of it all . It really is the holy grail of learning guitar and I must say I use chunks of this everyday as part of my warm up and practice and I still find stuff in there that blows the mind not to mention the fingers are in bits , but hey its all good . Great stuff Mike

Dude u Rock! If more ppl who are teaching guitar wld even teach everyone for free & break things up into the proper phrasing. Then this world wld be a much better place. I remember when I was a much younger guitarist. Going to play w/other guitarists & we would trade licks & ideas. I thought that's what this utube stuff wld be like. Instead u see working musicians charging lesser musicians for the knowledge that used to be shared. Ty for breaking the norm. Cheers

Recently discovered this album; even though I've admired Clapton as a guitar icon; I never knew this pre-Cream album existed; so it's all new to me; very thrilling to dive into it as a player. Hideaway is the track that jumps out for me to want to learn. Do you think the trend these days for the hobby player is more towards seeking vintage tone; and playing like Peter Green; Hendrix; and Clapton on electric; or are we still all about you tube shredders?

This is solid gold, Mike. I appreciate the breaking up of each phrase, makes it much easier to work on them and string them together into the context of the entire piece. One area I need a lot of improvement on is my improvisational phrasing. Clapton's playing on the Beano album is not only a treasure trove of classic licks but a master class in phrasing. And you pretty much nailed it!

This is such a hot tune, hot licks. First heard this back in the 70’s, off of some album involving beck page or Clapton, because I didn’t know who John may all was at first, later. But such a killer blues jam Freddie King made and Eric solos superb. This and Tribute to Elmore, such essential electric blues boogies.

Wow you are awesome! First discovered Hideaway (Beano version) in the 1970s, was naturally blown away, and always wanted to play it but just never got it quite right and got lazy about it eventually. But there's a ton of Beano documentary videos around KZfaq recently that have me all nostalgic about it. And here you are with this great tutorial where you nailed it note for note and are sharing your years long effort, so many thanks! I recently picked up a Vox Amplug2 Classic Rock Headphone Amp which sounds perfect for this, since there'll be no tube amps at '10' in my little apartment, so I'll give it a shot again. Glad you have 9s for the bends since 13s, yikes! Been thinking of going from 9s to 8s myself for these bends and my arthritic hands. Cheers!

Nice one, Mike! I remember the original Hideaway videos years ago. This is a great project. Hope you can see it through to the end. It would also be nice to get some of the underlying rhythm parts on the tracks you cover if you can find time for that.

Haha, I used to play 11s but I’ve gone down to 9s and sometimes 8s too. I also thought I “needed” the heavy strings for tone but I was watching an interview with Billy Gibbons where he said one day he was back stage with BB King and they each played each other’s guitars. BB asked why Billy had such heavy strings on his guitars, and Billy said, “well isn’t that how you guys get that tone,?” To which BB replied, “man, why are you working so hard?” BB used 8s, so Billy figured go even one lower and he’s been playing 7s ever since. After I heard that, I thought the same to myself, why am I working so hard?

I learnt guitar by copying records in the sixties (no tabs or videos back then and I ruined many records that way. No light strings either so I followed Clapton's trick of removing the fat E string, moving the strings down and replacing the thin E with a banjo string!). I think about half of my licks were from the Beano album. So I was very interested to see if I had been playing it right. The main thing I got wrong was that I played that E9 chord in the middle, as an E. Very distinctive sounding.

Hideaway and the Beano album is one of the things that got me started playing guitar as a 13 year old kid in 1986. Great to hear it so lovingly explained by such a brilliant guitarist.
