If the stars align and your opponent makes a big mistake, you can capitalize on it. It doesn't really happen like that very often, but it can.

Because this game has a very steep learning curve knowing your enemy, choose the right deployment, pick the right match ups to fight and able to cast the right spells at the right time can all shift the game to one side. Plus LUCK is a huge part of the game where one or two dice roll can make or break the game.

That's only if the unit you overrun into is already engaged and that combat hasn't been fought yet this turn I believe.

I couldn't disagree more. It's evident by your post that you've never played 9th, and your opinion of 8th makes me take anything you say with a huge amount of salt. So far, this is the best edition of Warhammer, ever.

That is more like their listbulding choice than anything else. A few hero wizards are perfectly fine and fighty lords are much more viable. The cannons do scatter before bouncing, they are hardly laser guided. I suggest first reading the ruleset, before making completely uneducated comments

@@CommandingVoice. I HAVE read it . So don't speak to me about 'uneducated comments " I read it having seen Steve and co playing if and got curious. Magic seems is almost a carbon copy of 8th, but dialed up. Spells are better . More reliable as you don't pick to cast the more powerful version before seeing the casting roll .(a terrible change ) they kept the random winds generation so most of the time you have half the pool of dice to stop spells . This encourages the caster to throw a bucket of dice at every spell. Either to draw out the dispel dice or to go for irresistible force and push it through. I know it's also just list choices , but their seems to be far more items and abilities that boost casting rolls as well. And even the miscast table isn't anywhere near as punishing as previous editions . All of this points to the 8th edition problem of the level 4 being a key pick over say, 2 level 2s . You don't even have the old school scroll caddy anymore, to help keep magic down a smidge . The scatter does help make cannons slightly worse than 8th,but its still not enough . But it helps . My main issue is magic is still over the top and needed to be reigned in. Monsters like dragons for example look to be a bit too pricey to see regular play especially over a high level wizard . You need to to be able to counter your enemies magic or risk being torn to shreds . I guess I'm hung up on the fact that magic was badly written in 8th especially with the addition of super spells and the designers of this version seem to have thought this was good and healthy and even that it needed dialling up to 11 🤣

@@benbiddiss336 There is also more items to protect agains magic, you have 2 different dispell scrolls, mystic shield and mystic maze, MR adds bonuses to dispell roll AND allow you a save agains test-or-die spells and bonuses to casting from wizard level are halved compared to 8th edition. The characters on monsters are pricy because they are extremely tough thanks to combined profile and save, so no wonder they are expensive (and even then, in 2500 games you can field them without much problem). The cannon change is enough if you pair it with changes to Line of Sight, there just have to be something on the table that allows you to hide unlike the shooting gallery that was in this battle report.

@@CommandingVoice I agree, you need some intervening terrain for protection against shooting. That cpt on Pegasus shoukd deploy behind a forest or building.
