You could countersink the thermal hat to possibly increase the amount of rebound

its going in the right direction, have you thought of any uses for the exhaust gases since the heat can only be reflected back in so much and a hole is needed for the exhaust gas to keep the combustion going, so it cant just be fully sealed,... its a lot of wasted potential, I know a simple tray top to help preheat the scrap thats going to be melted or some sort of pipe to feed back into an air intake so its pre-heated air, ....trying to avoid using water as it doesnt play nicely with molten metal if it cracks 😅 but was wondering if you have any good ideas floating around as it would make it more efficient using that wasted heat to say generate some power to charge up a battery that then links to a fan blower to help add more air or something of some use ?

have you ever hit 3000 degrees in a furnace of this type?

Yes , in the rocket burner video we cleared 3200 easy but only destruction to prove it . Check into the rocket burner series

What would happen if you mixed this coating with the concrete?

I was worried it would cause a fragile cast but the thought did cross my mind

@@NOBOX7 A concrete supplier once told me that "you can put anything in concrete"..."ANYTHING!" That was a joke, but it has been my experience that it is basically true. What could it hurt to make a cement hamburger or a few burgers with that coating mixed in at different ratios and do some testing. Some fiberglass would help if it is too fragile.

you sly dog, i was getting ready to suggest a parabolic mirror right before you said it. lol so, i guess there is no reason why the whole lid shouldn't be domed to focus on the surface/middle of the crucible? shame you can't add something like Zirconium carbide for the first layer or so to shield the refractory. Individually, tantalum and hafnium carbide have the highest melting points among the binary compounds, 4,041 K (3,768 °C; 6,814 °F) and 4,232 K (3,959 °C; 7,158 °F), respectively, and their "alloy" with a composition Ta4HfC5 has a melting point of 4,178 K (3,905 °C; 7,061 °F).

Funny you say that i have a diagram i drew up right after the video of a furnace with sloped walls . I will mention you in the next video as i had not got to the Lid just yet and you are spot on

I’m not here to annoy you. Just want to see you succeed so I can use the Results without doing the fat Amount of Work you put into it… The "Hat" is where the Difference between Reflection and Absorption + Reemission gets you. When the Coating absorbs the Energy it’s obviously turned into Heat Energy for the Atoms and they in Turn radiate that of as Photons. The Problem is, that the Emission is omnidirectional, so your Directionality comes mainly from the Shadow thats created by the Material around. In the Furnace it’s no big Issue, as nearly everything in Line of Sight from each Point on the Wall is hot anyway. The Part that can exit trough the Exhaust is the main Loss for that Topic. The Hat in Turn "sees" everything that is in the Line of Sight of the hot Coating on it. With a true Reflection you could use a Mirror to shape the Direction. So a true parabolic Shape might be to complicated for the Result. As the Radiation Energy can get reemitted on the Hat Shape as often as necessary, like in the Furnace, probably a small Stainless Kitchen Bowl to cast a Head around and then coat the concave Void could be enough. Even directly coating a Stainless Kitchen Bowl that is not much wider than the Furnace Opening might work. The Sides that space the Bowl from the initial Outlet give the Exit for the Exhaust Gasses and you might want to have them with a low Emissivity as that translates to a low Absorption. The Slit should be as small as possible to keep the Window to Escape for the thermal Radiation minimal. The Size mainly depends on how much Backpressure can be tolerated.

Yes my love for the Idea comes from the other aspect , the discharge gases heating the hat to 2000 F making it emit a good deal of heat in itself. As for eh actual reflection power side of it yes it is extremely complicated come to find out .
