We are very lucky to live in London, because at this time of the year it is possible to buy the very best of Indian mangoes, we've heard many times that the Indian mangos in London are better than the mangos in India... on this occasion we visit "Tropical Fruit & Veg" in Kingsbury, where Samir Bhai serves up the desired fruits.
The sublime Indian Alphonso and Kesar Mangoes are the "King & Queen of Mangoes" - once the mangos are ripe; they have a very short shelf life (so they have to be exported whilst they're green and unripe). They are also some of the worlds most expensive and sought after kinds of mango and are grown mainly in Western India.

Highly prized are the variety of Alphonso (A.K.A. Hapoos हापूस) ) from the Ratnagiri region of Gujarat in India.
This high grade variety of mango has a very short season of about 2 months from the beginning of May up to around the end of June; but is well worth seeking out due to the very sweet & almost fibreless nature of this fruit.

You may be wondering why the Alphonso & Kesar prices in London are so high, the high prices are due to the prohivitively steep cost of airfreight, hence the seemingly high prices.
On the day of our visit the price was:
Large Size Kesar Mango: £16.00 per box of 12
Medium Size Kesar Mango: £15.00 per box of 12
Large Size Hapus Mango: £7.00 per box of 6 or £12 for 2 box
Please note that the prices change from one day to the next depending on supply & demand.
