It's a beautiful and flowing style, but apart from the dramatic music, there is nothing here to suggest a real battle. What I see is two highly skilled practitioners practicing Aikido techniques cooperatively.

Ok folks, I've been practicing Aikido for over 30 years. Even I have to admit that it's time to start applying real attacks to the practice. We've seen this a million times at demonstrations and "youTube". Now, don't get the idea that I'm joining the bandwagon of people who thinks "Aikido is Bullshit", but it can be practiced in a practical way. Yes real attacks like from other types of martial arts. About 10 years ago this is what I began doing. There are adjustments to be made for the different attacks, but it's great practice and yes, it will work!! It's not anything that has to be proven to non-believers on youTube. Just invite your friends who study different arts to practice with you. Believe me, it will help.

Aikido Is so beautiful in 23 years of practicing it is have broken many bones .. and had some awful bruises. . And all to become a master of nothing like these two . Masters of a conceptual dance . I'm so glad I woke up and saw that with some minor adjustments .aikido can be used for combat . You just have to stop dancing and actually fight.

Практика боя показывает, что айкидо слабейшее единоборство, на фоне карате, самбо, джиу-джитсу, муай-тай, дзюдо да и многих других. Это единоборство направлено скорее на пьяненьких, неспортивных приставал или...против друзей и знакомых, которые протягивают вам руку, чтоб поздороваться). Хотя конечно какие то его элементы можно использовать в поединках, но против бойцов вышеперечисленных видов, айкидзин будет выглядеть глупо, красиво-падая

I have studyed 3 Kingdom style of Kung Fu for over 40 years now. I do not mean any disrespect in any way, I love the idea of Aikido. And was wondering if some one could explain when they have the chance, why does it look like the attacker is just " handing " his hand or arm to the defender? I KNOW that Aikido is VERY effective, but shouldn't the attacker be trying to actually strike the defender? ( if I could find a school, and my health was better , I almost died of diabetes with a blood sugar of 662, I would sign up. ☺☺

Takeda Sōkaku, the founder of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu and teacher of Aikido founder Ueshiba Morihei, was challenged by Murai Kenpachi who was a member of Otaru Commerce High School Judo club in Hokkaido, circa 1907. Takeda Soukaku, when he arrived in Hokkaido, bragged "Judo is a dance. I will accept a challenge from any judo-ka". Murai Kenpachi issued a challenge to Takeda Soukaku. As soon as the match started, Murai grabbed Takeda Sōkaku's lapel and took the fight to the ground where Murai caught Takeda Sōkaku in a choke. Using all the secret techniques of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu, Takeda Sōkaku tried to escape from the choke, but was choked out in about 10 seconds. After this match, this news with headline " Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu does not come even close to judo" propagated throughout Japan. Years later, Ueshiba Morihei accepted a challenge from Murai (5th dan in judo at the time) in the form of Bōjutsu vs judo. Ueshiba using a weapon, was defeated by Murai who grabbed and slammed Ueshiba onto the ground.
