At 17, I joined the military, grew up, matured and gained skills. At 30, I left the military, got a job working for county sheriffs department. Over the next 30 years, my wife and I never brought home more than 145k a year combined. She retired at 58 and I retired at 60 with almost 2 million dollars in assets. We are both 62 now and living large in retirement! BTW, my wife has a HS diploma and I have a GED!

@khalilabdullah8189 In 2018, I was in my 2nd year at Home Depot. At that point, I had been in retail for 13 years, and I wanted to be out. My wife had found a good temp agency with a high success rate. I gave them a shot. I was straight up and honest. Told them I wanted to be out to retail and do something more promising with my life. The manager understood. He looked at my management and customer service experience and also my experience from the military ( I had done HR work). He told me of a property management company that was hiring and would be a good fit. I had my interview with the company, and we hit it off. I gave my two weeks at Home Depot. That was a risk because temp work is never guaranteed to be permanent but I took a leap of faith it would work out. I worked with them through the temp agency for about 3 months. The owners and my boss loved me and wanted to officially hire me. They bought out my contract from the temp agency and on boarded me. So that was Feb 2019. I have been with them ever since.

A degree is great if you want to work for someone else. People without degrees start businesses and then hire people with degrees. Who is wealthier, the business owner or the employee with the degree and student loans on top of it? Our society should be encouraging people to serve others in a business they start, own, and work in.

Not everyone is gifted with the entrepreneurship mindset and natural tenacity. It's a hard work, high risk, high reward type of work. And DEEPLY personal to those who have committed their lives to it. It's also repeated failure before the big win. Its sometimes no win at all. Not everyone can stand up to that heartbreak and we shouldn't shame someone because of it. It takes both workers AND entrepreneurs to make this world go round.

Facts about the CDL (Oklahoma). I’m local (home every night with the fam; off on weekends) make on avg 85k-119k. More overtime you do the more money you make. This is just a stepping stone; me and the wife have a plan. But if you’re thinking about it; do it. Get the CDL. And go into the foodservice or fuel hauling sector. And don’t allow yourself to get stuck; use it as a tool to get you to the next level of your life. Don’t get stuck in that truck.

Which can run you like 5k plus I think or apply for a job that does on the job training and get it for free but the catch is. Depending on the company and the license you go for. You gotta work for that company for at least a yr and do over the road.

@@reese85 I just see a lot of people get comfortable with the money and don’t aspire for anything greater. Unless you go owner operator and start your own authority it’s always a ceiling for earning potential. For me I refuse to work 20 years for a company and retire. For some that’s cool but not me. Plus I come from an entrepreneur family; my pops owns his own plumbing company so I’ve always aspired to want something for myself as well. Don’t get me wrong though; trucking is good money to get you started in life as far as setting a foundation but I just know what I personally want out of life for me. Not the case for everyone

This is what I love about the DC Metro area, a lot of Black people here degree or no degree are making above six figures! I myself with some college and no degree made over six figures for multiple years and used that income to buy rental properties and to start my own business (Realtor). Now that I'm recovering from surgery I was able to walk away from that W-2 job to focus on my healing which is such a blessing. So it's not only about how much money you make, but how much money you keep and reinvest. Thank you for this episode. It is so worth professional it.

This is true. One caveat is that you have to watch out for losing your job. It can be difficult to move laterally without a degree and some who lose their job have to start at the bottom again even after having worked for many years to reach the income level at which they were. This is devestating for families especially since most need the increased income when their kids are getting older (teens) and ready fir college. Not trying throw any shade, just a word of caution to start saving early is all!

Sad part is that many people are working paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to shift and start a new career. Many people don’t have a rainy day fund or that cushion to stop. If they do their lively hood may be put in jeopardy. This is why relationships is needed. One can relieve that pressure while the transition is being made. Now that I’m older I realize that people spend all their life at work. Go home to sleep and do it all over again then on the weekends you are so tired that you rest those two days to have the energy to go another 5 days. Where is the work life balance. There isn’t any. Even when you become self employed you spend more time working cause you are the boss. I pray that they change the work week hours by allowing 4 (10hr shifts) or 3 (12 hr shifts) so that people can start enjoying life. As women we have to stop searching for the man with 6 figures and start supporting the working class man. Together yall can get there to that life style you want.

Greetings Mr. O’Neal, I worked in a school system in which my parents sued the Board of Education, I have a degree in Psychology and Sociology and the position I applied for were always out of my reach. I felt like my name was on someone’s negative list. Though my parents were recognized by our community and the NAACP it didn’t help us to gain economic benefits in the working world. I have many regrets that I didn’t just move to another state because I felt the shadow would follow me no matter where I went. Now I am a more mature woman but I feel like I’m not leaving a legacy behind for my family and I have not ever made 30k or even come close to it. It has been a source of frustration for me. I want to do something different and change the years ahead but I just don’t know where or how to get started. I am following you on YT and taking notes. I must say listening to you, I feel like there might still be a chance for me to do better and make a positive change soon. (No, I’ve never been in trouble or in jail or anything like that) Will you please respond and advise me? Thank you in advance and I hope to hear from you soon. Respectfully, Regina Mullins Pearson

Six figure income is possible for black people and other minorities without degrees, however certifications and experience is a must. The unemployment offices have numerous paid apprenticeships, training programs and grant money to offer training and get people in the job market, even to start a business, but some people do not take avantage of those programs or are not aware of them. I used one of those grants called the displaced workers programs some years ago and I am considered as making a middle class income. My certifications and experience helped me to earn more income than my college courses did.

Add another 30k if you go for your CFI at a national program. If you have bank you can buy a plane and hire an instructor. Real estate agents in Florida have two options: 1-work for a broker and sell or rent any type of property or 2-work for a builder such as Lennar Homes, DR Horton Homes, etc. and earn a steady income bc you'll only sell the builder's home products. With a builder, you earn a salary plus commissions and receive health and 401K benefits... But you are on the company's schedule and you must reach the monthly sales goals which can be done if you work hard!

When it comes to tech in general personal projects are very helpful and I’ve had many interviewers ask me about them
