a lil tidbit from ep6. in the cafeteria miss jenn song, the actress for kourtney was supposed to dance along with the rest of the cast (cause she's singing too) but since she got injured she had to sit it out. instead, the actor for big red learnt the dance last minute and SLAYED.

"Truth, Justice, and Songs In Our Key" is one of my favourite songs in the first season, such a banger and a lot of fun to listen too. Most of the new songs made for the series are way too good to be true

I love this show very much, exactly because of the way it displays how theatre can become a home and safe space form people. That also continuously makes my heart break for my younger self because I never got a chance to have this home when I really needed it. My time in school (not just high school) was not good across the board, I was a perpetual outsider and was bullied simply for being too different and people tried to teach me to be less of myself in order to fit in. I joined the AV club (which was awesome but still couldn't truly provide what I needed) but I never even considered joining theatre because I had absolutely zero confidence. However, I did get a few glimpses into that world courtesy of being in the AV club, most notably the final week of rehearsals before the performance run. We spent all day the entire week in the venue, setting up the stage and running through the play countless times. As an AV guy I was ever only on the peripherals of the community, but it still felt amazing to be part of the project. I never dared to take that step and join the theatre club and now I kind of regret it because I've since realized how much value it could've added to my life... However. I have since found a home like that (literally less than a month after graduating high school XD), a place where I can truly be myself and be appreciated and even celebrated for my unique weirdness and I couldn't be happier with it. Watching this show made me realize even more profoundly what I've gained with that. A word for those who may still be out there on their own: You'll find your place, you'll find your people, hold on just that little bit longer, it will be worth it and you will understand in the end. Thank you guys for reacting to this show so I can relive watching it myself!

Fun facts about these episodes that i havent seen anyone comment yet: -big red wasnt originally supposed to be in "truth, justice, and songs in our key". It was supposed to be kourtney, but because the actress (Dara Renee) broke her foot, she couldnt dance. That's why you only see her at the beginning and end. They asked Larry Sapperstein (big red actor) if he could take her place in the dance, and he agreed and learned the choreo within an hour before they shot the song. -the scene in big red's basement where ricky gives that speech. That was actually the last scene they shot of the first season. Thats why he and all the other actors seem so emotional. The lines about becoming family really got to them in that moment. especially since they hadnt been renewed yet so the "together here maybe for the last time" bit was really much a possibility for them irl not just their characters.

s1 was nini and friends. s2 was "nini's plight and other stories" s3 was "the ensemble is the show's sturdy backbone." and s4 was a love letter to the cast and crew and all things hsm. edit: i must say tho your comment is a bit spoiler-y....

@@lilbrownbearwell, I would say s2 was more of "Ricky's plight and other stories". His storyline was the lead of that season, full stop. I would also argue Gina's storyline was more of a lead story than Nini's, and I'm pretty sure she had more screentime than Nini, as well

@@ashlyn37 sure. but regardless nini was the lead. ricky's "plight" was only existent because NINI moved away. gina's sadness was because nini was still in the picture which meant she couldn't be with ricky. all in all, other major storylines were still influenced by nini being there (or not) regardless of screentime. me calling it "nini and friends" or nini's plight and other stories" wasn't based on who had the most screentime. its about which character's arc was central to the overarching plot of said season. moreover, it can't really be ricky's "plight" cause his whole thing was just being clingy to nini. it was HER who kept dilly-dallying between her "dreams" and wasn't really sure of herself or what she wanted.

As someone who used Prozac for a while, yeah the not being able to cry with the high dose is really an experience. Sometimes I could physically feel the depression being held at bay like I was seeing the strom through a window.
