High Speed pursuit ends in PIT Maneuver - Chevy Silverado hits the wall (Arkansas State Police)

Trooper's Narrative:
On 5/27/2023 around 10:00 PM, Cammack Village Police Department advised ASP Troop A communications that they were
behind a reported stolen vehicle on Interstate 430 South near the 8 Mile marker. Soon after, they advised that they were in
pursuit at speeds over 100mph, and the suspect vehicle was passing on the shoulder.
I attempted to stage in a cut-through on I-430 North before Interstate 30 East and West split to intercept the pursuit. As the
pursuit turned onto I-30 West, I could not follow and had to turn back around.
As the pursuit passed through Bryant and Benton,
Saline County Sheriff's Department and Benton Police Department were able to join the pursuit. Trooper Kyle Ellison and I
were able to catch up to the pursuit on Interstate 30 West at the 114-mile marker. I conducted a successful TVI on the vehicle,
sending it to the north concrete barrier, effectively stopping it.
The driver was removed from the vehicle and arrested. He was then taken to the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Saline County to
be medically cleared before being taken to the Saline County jail.

For those not so familiar with trucks, I could see it had a full floating GM 14 bolt axle. That means it is not a 1500 or half ton truck, but either a 2500 HD or 3500 HD. That is a really heavy truck that probably outweighs the police vehicle by 2000 lbs at the very least. To be able to PIT that thing smoothly takes some skill.

True, it was a 3/4T truck, but appeared to have an empty bed. Those two narrow stock rear tires can break traction pretty easily with an empty bed, especially if they're near the end of tread life.

No injuries, vehicle totally disabled, and no property damage. Wow, I had to watch this one twice, inasmuch as it was as they say, "A textbook Maneuver."

If you work with firearms you definitely don't want to flag your buddy with your weapon. At the same time the ASP know where to be standing in this situation: near the rear of the vehicle so the subject can't get a shot at you without opening the door, and that's where Trooper Ellison was going. Trooper Ellison also called the trooper who did the TVI over to stand by him in that location. The city police exposed themselves to potential fire through the vehicle's windows as they stood parallel to the vehicle and one even moved farther to the front and was warned by Trooper Ellison to not go any farther because of the danger of getting hit by cross-fire. The shoulder bump occurred because you don't want to take your eyes off the subject with your weapon drawn and is forgivable.

@@jamesmccollum8493 It is all well and good sitting quietly on your couch analyzing what they did or should have done. In the real world...stress and adrenalin can bend your training. Cop cross fire incidents are generally very rare...especially when you consider the thousands of armed confrontations that occur in a year. If you really want to be safe....carry a big oak tree with you...offering instant cover...or more realistically.... stand behind an engine block and don't move from there. You only have what you have to work with....in a particular confrontation.

It amazes me when watching these how many drivers are on the road who are absolutely oblivious to their surroundings. In a lot of States people just DON'T PULL OVER when the lights come up behind them. I was taught to look around every 8 secs, to see whats behind and to the sides.
