I saw him in a Vegas show back in 1978 or so with Jose Feliciano. What a show, and it was free because my brother delivered some special champagne to one of the pit bosses. We could have had everything on the house, but my brother, and parents declined as they thought this guy was mobbed up. 😁😎✌

I think it's not just that, Kaplan is irreplacable, but... - a lot of the other shows had great characters, commentators etc.. but the home-game feel is what really makes this stand out. It's not so sterile, no big audience.. it just feels like a high-level home-game.

Gabe and AJ have such an awesome chemistry that develops over the series. It's seconded only to Norm and Lon

I know, the bet sizing back then was so much more fun. Not logical I realize now, but fun. The whole game was more fun before these computer kids cracked it and ruined everything.

He's not betting $1 million. Greenstein only had like 70K in front of him. It just goes to show that the production and commentary had no idea what was relevent.

Negreanu is just making that move to be a dick, given Greenstein's stack size an $80k bet would have achieved the exact same but moving in for a million 'looks cooler'. The whole $1m buy in was just for his ego and to show off on TV, his net worth at the time of that episode would have been around $4-5 million, not the smartest idea going into a game with 25% of your bankroll sitting in front of you.

@@johnspence8141 Half those players used to play the same stakes at Bobby's room if not higher in the pot limit mixed games with blinds of $2,000/$4,000. Playing 6 figure buy in games is pretty normal for them. Think about the size of the bank rolls of Durrr, Ivey and Antonius. Look at Negreanu, Greenstein, Brunson and Hellmuths career earnings from tournaments alone. Barry could afford 80 buy ins at these stakes, Negreanu could go 400 buy ins, Hellmuth 250 etc. Why would they all be staked when they have mire than enough money to play themselves? I think Laak would be staked and Esfandiari at the time (pre one drop win). Gold and Wasicka definitely played their own money off the back of the WSOP win. Matusow said it was his own money but admitted he wasn't rolled properly for it. Elezra played his own money as well. As I said, look at the earnings of these guys and the fact they play these stakes every week in Bobby's room, and the same stakes on poker after dark, live at the bike and the Aussie Millions cash game. You really think their getting staked for all those shows? A minority few of them would have been staked but pretty much everyone else can afford their own money fine. Do you really think someone would lend Negreanu a million? To say these guys aren't playing their own money is completely untrue.

yeah he was an OK guy. I used to play at Hollywood Park Casino in the 90s and saw him there all the time. I got a limo ride home one morning after playing all night long. He had some pretty girl friends he gave jobs to there. One was the stunning candy cart girl as I recall
