Alrightttt randiiii…. It’s #HighsteaksReview time @PapiSteak (Miami Beach, FL) with a BONUS Wagyu Pastrami Review.
Two steaks (and pastrami) everyone knows the rules. I will start off my saying that my performance in this review was lack luster and underwhelming. This is not how you want to start off a year.
But, this is the first review of the new year. I got the porterhouse, rare, as per usual. Papi Steak charges $210 for a ~48 oz porterhouse that is not dry aged. I gotta be honest, I’ll gladly spend money on steak, but that’s expensive even for Miami. In all fairness though it’s Miami, so you gotta expect prices like that. Also we are in the midst of ridiculous amounts of inflation which I’ve been sounding the alarms on for years. INFLATION ISNT COMING ANYMORE, ITS HERE.
I’ll start out with the positives. They cooked it pretty perfectly. All the fat was rendered nicely and for the most part it was edge to edge rare. Especially on a steak that thick, it’s impressive.
They seasoned it decently. Could have used more salt for sure. Also, they used a little bit of pepper which wasn’t the end of the world, and barely noticeable, but not necessary.
The quality of the steak itself. Was naturally really flavorful and had a good amount of fat through out it.
The big let down for me was that it wasn’t dry aged. I would expect at a place like Papi steak that their porterhouse would be dry aged. The only dry aged cut on the menu was the Bone in NY Strip. Given that it wasn’t dry aged, the flavors were far more mellow than they typically are at a higher scoring steakhouse.
Also, the crust was also very solid. Nothing crazy crazy, but pretty solid.
I went 6.8 on the porterhouse. I’d call it a slightly above average steak.
Bonus #Wagyu Pastrami review. The pastrami was phenomenal. Super fatty and almost tasted like the best roast pork I’ve ever had. The presentation was also great. That’s a 9.1 on the pastrami scale.
So 6.8 porterhouse, 9.1 pastrami. I will be back for the BeefCase when the right opportunity presents itself Papi Steak, Miami, that’s your review.
