Alrighttttt Randi… it’s #HighsteaksReview time @PrimeAndPearl (Gainesville, FL)
Two steaks… actually two orders of bacon & sautéed onion glaze, everyone knows the rules. But back to the regularly scheduled programming with a rare porterhouse review… the 100 yard dash of steaks.
Prime and Pearl ONLY charges $89 for 40 oz porterhouse. They dry age it 45 days. I don’t know if anyone besides me is keeping track, but that’s BY FAR the best deal on a dry aged porterhouse, or any steak for that matter of that quality, that you are going to find anywhere.
Let me put it in perspective for you. Even with gas prices at their current peak, I could drive from Boca to Gainesville and back, order TWO porterhouse, and still likely be in for less money than if I ordered one porterhouse at Papi steak. (NOT RIPPING ON PAPI STEAK, JUST MAKING A COMPARISON) (this example also only works if there’s no traffic and I don’t accidentally take the fake express lane 45 minutes out of the way)
As for the steak itself, really great flavor from the extensive dry aging period. 45 day is about 50% longer than most steakhouses.
The only place where the porterhouse really fell short was the seasoning and how it was cooked. It was slightly underdone for my taste, and the intramuscular fat still needed to be rendered a little further.
Again, I wish they salted it. If there was any salt on it, I didn’t taste it. But once I seasoned it myself, it was great. But I must score what’s on the plate.
I just want to reiterate how great of a deal that is. Its legitimately worth it for me to drive to Gainesville to come back here for dinner (based on gas and steak prices only, and leaving my time out of the equation).
I went 7.1 on the porterhouse. But a BARGAIN of a 7.1. The restaurant itself was phenomenal in every way as well. The sides, appetizers, service, etc were all great.
So 7.1, no days off, great deal, prime and pearl in the middle of no wher- I mean Gainesville, that’s your review.
