I hear ya on the burnout. 10 months into a 4x4 1986 flatbed build with a 1968 cab and a Cummins V-6 375. All the fabrication to mate a ZF 5 spd and nestle that engine in there, turns out my 4th gear synchro is stuck after the tranny rebuild sat all year. I had to walk away two months ago but am gearing up for major disassembly now.

Great to hear an update Shane. Currently building out my 74 highboy. These projects absolutely take time to be done properly. Just got back the 390 the truck came with from the engine rebuilder. Based on your suggestion, I went ahead and ordered that suburban tank to replace the in-cab tank. I’m going to remove the cab tomorrow and send it off for sand-blasting and then have it coated in weld-able primer (she’s got some rust) Thank you for the update!

Awesome! I actually love the old FE’s. Theyre awesome motors. Torque monsters. That suburban tank fits great, i believe i used 5” c channel for the new crossmembers if i remember right

Love the build so far! I have gotten ideas to do this as well and i am getting alot of inspiration from your videos. I am currently looking for a truck to start the process with, is there anything in particular i should look for? And would it be better to buy a manual truck or automatic? Ive found a few automatic trucks in my area for pretty cheap but i am thinking of doing a NV4500 or NV5600. Thoughts? Anyways, absolutely love the videos and the truck looks amazing as well. Keep up the good work brotha!

Thanks man! I would look for the cleanest truck possible. Find the truck with the least amount of rust possible to fit your budget, that would be my two cents. I wouldnt worry about auto vs manual honestly. You can run the c6 behind a cummins but its a ticking time bomb, even a built c6 wont last. The 4 speed manuals that came in these trucks probably wont last long either unless the cummins is bone stock. Even then your not gonna have an overdrive which is kind of a bummer. I would just search for the cleanest truck possible, and not worry about the drivetrain so much. If you can find a clean rolling chassis, even better. The only drivetrain item thats gonna be useable is a np205 honestly. The stock axles are gonna go eventually to with any performance mods to the cummins. Its a slippery slope!
