Dr. Platt and his colleague, Professor Lage, coined the phrase “inverted classroom”, to move active learning into the classroom and lecture outside of class. In this highly interesting talk, Dr. Platt will be showing how Higher Ed’s not the in the business you think it is.
Dr. Platt has been Director of Miami University’s Interactive Media Studies Program since 2000 and founded the Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies. He is President Emeritus of the International Digital Media and Arts Association and along with his colleague Prof. Lage, coined the phrase “inverted classroom” with a 2000 seminal work outlining the benefits of using technology to move active learning into the classroom and lecture outside of class. His 2012 SXSW presentation with Peg Faimon has helped frame the conversation around the future of higher education. He has won a variety of teaching awards from the students, the school of business, and the university. He received his Bachelor of Arts from University of Florida and his MS and PhD from Carnegie Mellon University.
