Spine.chilling. This is my favourite piece of music with the pipes and drums and I have never never seen it played in a more beautiful setting. Dunblane Cathedral is a wonderful backdrop.

Yesterday we visited the last post ceremony at Menin gate in Ypres were this song was played by a piper band.. i can not think of a more beautyfull gift between two nations as a sign of new friendship after those horrible wars, a extremely moving moment.

Remembered this melancholy melody by Chinese band in 1997 in front of Hong Kong Government Hse during the lowering of the UK flag ceremony -- and the flow of tears from UK Governor down to the Chinese civil servants.

Why is this tune so very moving? It has a hymn like quality, and soaring leaps in the melody...but it is more than that. Somehow, the German composers have gone right to the essence of Scottish pipe music and created an absolute gem. Listening to it day after the Referendum, and getting very chocked up.

Hairs on the back of my neck stand when this is played. Written for the bagpipes, by people who love Scotland. I can accept it and it will be played when I go, by a lone piper preferably. This should be our new National Anthem.

Truly a moving piece of music. I had the privilege of conducting the funeral of WO Arty Francis - 4th RSM-A (Australian Army). We carried his coffin out to the pipes playing this tune in our local Anglican cathedral. It was hard to keep composure with Ps & Ds doing that music. Yep - when I go out, I want this one played.
