Hume was unplayable for large parts of this game. Clermont could not deal with his power and the angles he hit the gain line. He was amazing.

@@rafaitcherif8197 could it be that we are peaking two years too soon? I expect we will see a rejuvenated ABs teams in 2023. Will be interesting how we get on 6N and on the tour in NZ next summer. With ENG and FRA who are also building nicely away, the 6N will be tough

It is hard to get in the Irish team if you do not play for Leinster, came through the Leinster academy or are a kiwi. In large part to do with the fact Leinster have incredible talent and depth and Farrell wants to play the Leinster way. Lowry, Hume, McCloskey and Timoney are all good players but are all up against top players in Keenan, Ringrose, Henshaw and Van der Flier. The glaring omission is Cooney, easily the best 9 in Ireland.

@@patrickmccutcheon9361 comprehensively beating NZ, Argentina and Japan whilst rotating the squad and yet Ulster supporters still bitch and moan. Cooney looks good for Ulster because everything is built around him. Ireland don't only play off 9 and he isn't capable of playing another way. It really isn't that complicated

@@inBODwetrust13 perhaps, I should have added to my previous the following as a second sentence. ‘While one could discuss individual selections inthis mix of Leinster academy products and kiwis, most changes would involve other Leinster players. Larmour, Henshaw, McGrath, Healy, Baird, Ruddock, Connors and Deegan could have been considered. Given the results, it is hard to argue against Farrell’s strategy. I just hope Munster start playing more enterprising rugby like the others now that Van Graan is leaving.

Infuriating hearing the commentary saying 'very clear explanation of why it's a yellow card' which we don't get to see or hear because the editor just has to show us a nothing phase play cutting to ref holding up the yellow 🙌

you do not need possession when scoring a try, only downward pressure, which Penaud has.

This coming on top of Munster winning there last year must have pissed off Clermont. Note that after his incredible 8/8 performance, they signed Hanrahan. What chance they go for some of the Ulster boys who despite playing well are not selected to play for Ireland.

I don't follow club rugby these days but wouldn't they have gotten a bonus point if they'd scored a try at the end - finishing within four points - instead of kicking the pen?

You only have to finish within 7 to get a bonus point. Kicking the pen took them to 4 off Ulsters total so that got them the losing BP. They'd only scored 2 tries so it was the only way to get the BP.

Décidément, cet arbitre est imbuvable, je ne dis pas que Clermont doit gagner ce match, mais Barnes a su profiter des occasions qui lui ont été données, pour encore une fois favoriser une équipe anglophone. Ce n'est pas digne d'un officiel, je n'oublie pas non plus ceux qui l'ont assisté, qui sont complices au même titre que lui ! Ils sont les ambassadeurs du "French bashing". Pour rappel, je ne suis pas Clermontois... I'm not saying that Clermont should win this game, but Barnes took advantage of the opportunities he was given, to once again favor an English team. This is not worthy of an official, I do not forget those who assisted him, who are accomplices as well as him! They are the ambassadors of the "French bashing". As a reminder, I am not from Clermont-Ferrand...

The ref was fair, if anything Clermont shouldn't have been awarded that try at 2:00. Just accept the better team won on the day.

Now that the referee, with his accomplices, to decide otherwise, that... I can't accept it! I could quote you game facts where Barnes, kindly arranged to take decisions contrary to logic and by the same occasion favor the fate of the game in favor of Ulster!

I speak French. I understand you want to criticise the referee but it's a bit unfair to him. I'm not sure there's an anti-French bias but I'd like to see more French and Italian refs. It's unfortunate English is the dominant language and this may sometimes give non-English speakers a disadvantage. I thought Barnes was fine in this match. We don't often beat French teams away but I think we can enjoy this win.

@@crw45able How to appreciate a victory when Barnes "messes up" on 2 actions that deserve the opposite decision, especially on the assault on Itturia where we clearly see the shoulder blow plus the "high tackle", without the Irish player being sanctioned, and there are other facts of play just as litigious! We know Barnes well, having had him on many occasions, and always so dishonest, which has never been the case with referees like Nigel Owens and many others.

That referee had a big impact on who wan the match, not by stealing it from Clermont, but by little touches, almost discreetly as British ref know so well to do for French team… a disgrace!

You want to check Irish sides win record when Barnes is reffing it's not pretty. He refs as he sees it. It just took Irish sides a while to get used to his breakdown interpretation.
