@@emmarowley1096 Just have a look at things such as the price of cam belts, as well as the car itself (Dacia's was half the price of Fiat's!)"Oh no, it's a Renault parts bin special." If the parts are reliable what's the problem? Landrover, I feel have sold their soul in turning their back on those of us that just want a fairly priced 4x4 to shove kit into. A full tank of diesel lasts ages with mud and snow tyres on my truck and a boot full of kit.

The only thing i don't like about how Renault is managing Dacia is the electric Dacia which by the way is entirely produced in China by Donfeng or what Chinese company. That car is a no car so i just wonder why did Renault after trying to make a name for Dacia did take that path? A Chinese car that costs like 10k euro or less and its double the price in Europe. I am from Romania and i'm pissed on this Renault thing , they could of just try make an electric Dacia more reliable in Europe not a cheap box in China.

Isnt this what a Land Rover used to be: a no BS “tool car”? Im not to keen on the (lack of) safety, but the car is so honest - and thats an unusual feature these days...
@retrogeezer
@retrogeezer 3 жыл бұрын
There is no 'lack of safety' about these cars. NCAP is all about electronic driver aids these days. They lose marks for not having daft stuff like lane departure warnings and auto braking. As long as you can drive properly you shouldn't need them. I think the entire Duster range got marked down 1 star because the base model didn't have an audible seatbelt warning. All the others did. Ridiculous really.
@flemmingsorensen5470
@flemmingsorensen5470 3 жыл бұрын
@@retrogeezer So you are basically dismissing, many years of development in car safety? Maybe we should skip the seat belts, and simply tie ourselves down, by a piece of rope - or just “hang on for dear life”.... I have personally experienced how modern safety systems, as well as the active safety from a well handling modern car, can save your life. I had this experience last winter, on a dark and icy autobahn near Berlin. I will go for the safest car I can get, at all times. Driving 50000KMs annually, Im happy that its not in this Dacia. I will take anything, that will increase the survival rate - but I agree, that the driver is still the most important safety factor. I just wont disregard the remaining safety factors.
@retrogeezer
@retrogeezer 3 жыл бұрын
@@flemmingsorensen5470 I'm not dismissing it, I'm saying the car does not have a lack of safety. They do have ABS and electronic stabilty control, they also have seat belts! Do you need a noise to tell you to put yours on? Auto braking and lane assistance are only going to save you having a crash if you are not paying attention. They make people think they are invincible in their little carcoon and driving standards diminish. Facts are statistically you are more likely to die or get injured from falling over while out for a walk or doing DIY than in a car crash, You best wear a crash helmet next time you go to the park if you are that concerned about your safety.

@@markking9435 The point is that most millionaires don't accumulate their money just by high income but by setting priorities with their spending. They may go to the opera every other week or on a safari each year if that's what counts for them - but they don't spend a lot of money on the stuff that isn't important to them. It's a bit like Jay Leno with different priorities - now here is a real car guy spending a lot of money on the metal (though he's made a business of it now) - but go ask a fashion minded person what he thinks of Jay's clothing budget and choices.

Truth is most people don't buy a car just to get them from A-B, if they did they would probably look no further than the humble Dacia. Most drivers like style, pizazz, comfort performance and lots of toys, something they can park in front of their neighbours or look back at as they lock the car and walk away. We are a peculiar set of individuals. 😉

Great review. Here in bungalow city, I see quite a lot of Dacias. It's the ability to buy something new for the cost of a used equivalent that appeals to the recently retired. Brilliant on the button review on the duster. I have hired one 3 times fron turkish airports and been delighted as it suited our touring requirements perfectly. Basic and utilitarian sums it up but felt reliable and drove well each time. Interestingly Travelled to UK airport with family of 5 and all our luggage, hand luggage etc in my 2008 RR vogue...and boot was packed solid so always used to worry about what hire car it was going to be as I have yet to have the exact car that I booked. I need not have worried everything fit and to be honest fit better than the vogue. Acres of nasty plastic and flimsy looking vents/ handles/ buttons. Nothing broke and it was actually a really ok car. Perhaps coming from my RR I should have felt more yuk factor towards it but I didn't.

These are very under rated cars. The latest version is great value for money and looks pretty cool in a rugged sort of way. There is a revised model coming sometime this year with improved tech and some bodywork tweaks. When you pay close on 20k or more for a supermini from mainstream manufacturers, this makes the new Dacia Duster a bargain. Great review thanks.

Another great video Matt. I love the idea of something basic that gets the job done but the Duster has one massive negative, its crash worthiness. It scores a shocking 3 stars in the Euro NCAP crash worthiness test. I'm happy to sacrifice the bells and whistles in the interests of cheap motoring, but never the safety of me and my family. @@JJ-ic6pn Agree. I have the 2013 car and would buy another if the safety were better. Instead I'm looking elsewhere. The 3 star NCAP data is old though, based on the 2017 car. The 2022 model has all new panels tec but we don't know if it gets a better score because it hasn't been tested (yet?). That said the crash worthiness is respectable. That wasn't the prime reason for the lost stars - it was mainly down to the comparative lack of active safety mechanisms like auto braking etc.

I looked at the spec on various SUVs and decided on buying my Dacia Duster Laureate 4x4 new in 2012 . It is really good value for money I disagree with comments about road noise and engine roughness in some reviews. Mine is smooth, quiet, economical and servicing costs are a fraction of the price for other SUVs. I ordered it with every available extra at the time and have since added a tailgate spoiler and rear stainless bumper bar. To buy another make of SUV with the spec mine has would cost double what I paid.
