That is my old car! You gave me £250 !!and I looked after it carefully for 18 years. Not wood screws but self tappers. The plate was sold when I bought your Focus estate. The wheels are painted with wheel silver not Hammerite.I still have plenty of paint left . It is grey by the way. I am not 106 but 76.You have made it look good but why did I sell it? Well, a crack on the gearbox housing The plate that holds reverse idler bearing. It that goes it will be a mess. Strange seeing your old car going for such a profit especially as you must have made a packet on the Focus that I bought.

Mondeo man is actually a fascinating bit of socioeconomic profiling. Previously referred to as Essex man, Mondeo man represented the largest segment of voters and represented the profile of electorate any political needed to win over to gain a victory. Essex man was first spoken about by Thatchers conservative party I believe, and Tony Blair adopted the same approach (as he did with a lot of Thatchers thinking) when New Labour were campaigning. It's a fascinating snapshot of the social mobility in Britain that the BMW 3 series soon replaced the Mondeo as the best selling car in the UK! I love a bit of social profiling mixed with automotive geekery!

I'm out there in June so hope I spot it or get to see a few other classic cars out on show .☝️👌🏼👍🏽 Great Z3 there it has panache 😁 , that'd be an excellent project finding low mileage desirable cars . Ps in the Classic Amendment 2023 it says Saturday and Sunday plus Bank Holidays . Section 13c . They're only allowing a max of 200 to be allowed on the Island... that's a geeky fact moment 😂

Probably been garaged for most of its life to be in this condition! Make a good run around for a family with 84 kids ! 😀 a tidy profit for a 19 year old car which is nearly as ugly as Elon musk !! 🙈

Petrol ones were pretty reliable. I owned a diesel and faced multiple problems (injectors, flywheel, etc) and at the end I gave it to someone when repair costs were bigger than actual value of the car.

Can’t beat a MK3 Mondeo! Probably the best looking of the lineage. Just think, if this was the mid 90s that would be a 1975 Cortina Estate and would either be going to a classic car show or absolutely hanging with rust. My daughter daily drives a 21 year old Fiesta so it just shows the improvement in build quality from the 1970s and 80s.

This is about as good as rock bottom cheap cars get. It's a tiny bit cruddy around the edges on the body, but then it is almost 20 years old. As you said Matt, a perfect example of a dog car or a cheap vehicle for a few tip runs....

They are superb cars. My previous model one (also an estate) handled better than the saloon. Just went and went then I had a 'last version' one more recently and it had zero faults in 2.5 years and 80000 miles.

My second car was a 2003 dark blue 2.0 LX Mondeo. Brilliant car...it was stolen while I was at uni in Liverpool in 2009. We had the insurance investigators out too...well, a house full of 5 students, I bet they figured we needed the cash. 🤣

I use an early Mk3 estate as a daily driver and have something much more fruity to play with at the weekend. Don’t mock the RS owners club card… Potential rear subframe rot is the main issue on the estates + plenty of dislike from the wife. Very simple to maintain (petrol) and drives better than a few modern cars. It replaced a Mk 1 Focus as a daily, might as well be consistent.

Pleased to see you get a good result even more pleased its from a mondeo. They were (are) the best car for the money. IN THE WORLD. Ok so its not got a fasionable badge and and only us mondeo owners know how good they are. I don't care, I honestly feel supirior driving mine rather than the endlessly troublesome audis and bmws most people drive round here. The space and comfort of mine with leather seats is seriously immpresive. Mines the 14 reg mk 4. Its on 173500 miles. Mainly driven by my wife on caring work so if any issue comes up its fixed and regulary serviced. Biggest non seviceable job so far has been digging out one injector seal. I will say though if anything expensive needs doing now after nine years of owning it, even though body work is still rust free, it will be scrapped. Or may be not. I'll probably leave that decision to my local ford specialist garage. But I would get another in a heartbeat.

The best era for cars , before they got too complicated and too expensive to service. I'd buy it if my 2 year older Volvo gave out , but that is unlikely.

These used to to be the go to family car until SUV's. Bangernomics is not running a car into the ground but maintaining it until a costly failure

It's a shame Ford dropped the Mondeo (and the rest of their traditional range) for the even more boring SUVs they replaced them with.

My late father was a real Mondeo Man. He had Fords from the Cortina Mk1, 2, 3, 4, then a break to a Passat then back to a Mondeo Ghia X auto (the later shape). Then he got ill and bought a 3008 with a disabled ramp. I have to admit (not been a Ford man) it was alright and really quite luxurious with leather seats and I think it even had SatNav(?). I would only go in it now and again when I visited them in Norfolk I would get to drive the Mondeo. It wasn't that bad, what happens is they get to a certain age when they do just drop to bits and go all loose and floppy and start rattling. By this stage I had a two year old P207cc and I used to get into Mondeo and it was awful! The difference was quite noticeable. At one point I put my foot on the brakes and nothing really happened! Alas it died and was PX'ed fr the 3008. Considering how many there were on the roads at the time, they are rare now, even more so the estate. I love the 1970's gold colour. My mum had a N reg Cortina Mk 3 GXL in Gold

i drove one of this era for a while but it felt too big and awkward. But it will find a home, perhaps with a contractor who has a long drive every day and needs to carry a lot of stuff and needs a cheap estate they can run into the ground. An excellent working car!!!! None of the nonsense of a BMW.

16:00 What year was your Focus? 2003 year only Focus's (and Audi TT / Volvo S60) had a component issue that was subject to recall. What would happen, the speedo would occasionally drop to zero, the car would go into limp mode and the stereo would lower in volume. What was needed, was a new gauge cluster and the problem was fixed, at Ford / Audi / Volvo dealers expense. That was what happened on mine, apparently different things would happen on different cars but all involved a fault with the speedometer.
