Just to let everybody know: the fuel systems on these are fine (N57 engine this). The only reason they fail so often (or atleast it seems that they do) is because people that drive BMWs are too cheap and put 10£ of fuel each time and sometimes even let it run dry. This is how you introduce a bunch of air and heat into the fuel system and destroy the high pressure fuel pump. Then it sends shavings throughout the whole system. You then need to replace: high pressure fuel pump, all injectors, clean all the lines, clean the fuel tank. It's a massive job. So please, DO NOT LET IT RUN DRY. Same applies to 2 litre N47 engines too. Just fill it with fuel when it's on 1/5 of the tank. Don't wait.

Watching Matts videos you notice a strange relationship between people and cars. The newer more expensive cars seem to be looked after whereas the cheap slightly older ones are run into the ground. Then when both of these types become really old everyone loves them and no expense will be spared to keep it at its best like Matts SL.

Hi Matt - great video as always. When you mentioned the non-folding mirrors, I did wonder whether you were simply travelling too fast for them to fold. After all, trying to fold your mirrors at say, 30 mph, would be a safety issue surely? Scrolling down through the comments afterwards it seems I was right and that if you had Goggled it, you'd have found the info you needed. A lesson for the future, no doubt. Also, if your mechanic watches your videos, which he possibly does, perhaps he is feeling suitably embarrassed at his charge for 'fixing' the mirrors?

The new graphics showing your costs breakdown was a nice touch Matt. Also, the sensible decision to opt for the blind removal should help the Profit and Loss account being in the black at the end of the financial year. Would be interesting to know how much the Beamer retailed for new in 2010.

I don't know exactly what the price actually was in pounds when new! But I can assure you it was in between the 5 and the 7 series! So, basically, expensive! Although the exterior is awkward (matter of fact it's kind of a marmite car; you either hate it or love it) it's a clever car because with less money than a 7 series, you have an unconventional car which gives you a bigger interior space than a 5 series F10/11, a better practicality, the same amount of legroom in the back as in the 7 series and the same headroom as in the X5! All of this, on the second hand market........ At a WAAAAAAAAAY lower price than an X5, X6 or SUVs in general

Agreed on the blind, love a good pano roof. I only close mine when it’s legitimately hot and it’s being left parked outside for a decent length of time, in a vain attempt to make the car slightly less of an oven when I get back in, but that’s hardly a frequent occurrence here in the UK. I used to hate the BMW GT range (3er, 5er and 6er) but have recently come to like them. They do offer a brilliant amount of versatile for the money, even if the early versions are quite visually challenging; although by the LCI 3 GT and 6 GT they do like quite cool in my opinion! Also, they offered such strange engine/ gearbox combos; you could have a 550i (V8) GT, and a 335i Manual GT. You've got to wonder what the market for such cars was!

Perfect for grown adult/elder years road trips with the grandchild and economical around town when used everyday. We considered x3/x5s however when trying to get in, it was too high for my mum who is the primary driver and her knees are not what they used to be. I still don't get the point of the GT series other than parting muppets from their money. Each model is: 1. No bigger on the inside that it's non-GT counterpart 2. Has less headroom in the rear because of the rear roofline than it's non-GT counterpart 3. It's more expensive to purchase and slower/less efficient than it's non-GT counterpart 4. Worse to drive (like an SUV) i.e. it might be trying to look sporty but you can't cheat physics compared to a saloon 5. Can't go offroad 5. My eyes.............................just look at it 🤮🤮 (the 3 GT was a bit better for space in the back but the 5 GT is a joke in this respect)

I know why the emergency services were going nuts: Matt had bought a decent car for a change, you’d even managed to come in close to the £500 budget! I’d have called an ambulance as well 😅 I did think the 5|Series GTs looked ungainly, not helped by me not being the biggest fan of that gen 5-Series’ nose, but you’re right, it does suit white quite well. Almost everything that used electricity failed at least once and a couple of things like the window switches and motors plus the sunroof motors failed multiple times. I agree with the removal of said blind. Every car that has a panoramic roof, and that I have sat in, has always had it open, pretty much useless. The next person who owns it can simply deal with the expense of paying for a new blind, or tinting it if preffered. Definitely not cutting corners in the slightest Matt! 🙂plus a nice change from the cheap that gives nothing but headaches 😂

Great video as always👌👌That extra button on the boot is if you want to set a limit to how high the boot opens. E.g. if your frequently parked in a garage with something limiting the boot from opening fully, this is when you’d set the limit.

I bought a 2010 5 Series GT based on your previous video of one. OMG, love this car so much, the 3.0L straight V6 is an awesome engine. Mine is high mileage, had a crankshaft pulley go and the rear air suspension needed new solenoids, but other than that it's built like a tank. I also had the sunshade go on me, I just put it back into the open position and forgot about it, I might get the sunroof tinted at some point, which is what everyone (owners) say to do, a new replacement one will go in a few years apparently. I think you are right, when they first came out they were ugly, but now I see a new x6 on the road and at first I think oh it's another GT, they have seem to come back around in style tbh. Great videos, keep up the great work!

5GT sits on the then 7 series wheelbase, split talegate was really clever and I went on the launch for this car; was for golfers to put clubs in with rear seat passengers having the option to stay dry whilst you did of raining!

Hi Matt, lovely car, imo you did the right thing with the roof blind, As you do I tend to keep the sunroof blind open in the Lexus, its lovely to have the extra daylight coming in. hope you get the full asking price. All the very best from Nick the Lexus guy in Wolsingham.

The difference is, Wheeler Dealers “forget” to show the cost of things like the new tyres that every car ends up with. I drive my poor wife mad by pointing out the things that they did without adding the cost to the bill! Oh yes, there is also the £1,000 that they pay every vendor/purchaser!

This is what I wanted when I was pressed to buy a X3. Liked their (at the time) odd look but loved the internal space and ride. The spend on repairing the blind was too much and I’ve have had something like what you decided done to resolve. BUT I’d have had to tint the glass. I’ve sat in the back of cars with glass s’roof and the blind retracted, the glare on even overcast days hard to bear. So, I’d have tinted it to compensate. Glad you had one of these in your stock as I was right away interested to hear your take. 👍🏻

Great video as always. One thing that annoys me as I can't work it out is why so many car reviewers use the phrase "pillarless doors" when it isn't the pillar that is missing (presumably so the doors don't fall off!...) and it isn't the door but rather the window that is missing the frame. Frameless doors might just work but they are literally frameless windows no?........just me then.
